Thin layers on your thick layers

Archive: 26 posts

Clicking will bring up my original post
I have an object I'd like you all to take a look at. . . its a thin piece of material that does not exist on any of the normal four thin layers. Instead it sits on any of three thin layers that are right in front of their original counterparts.
It seems that I inadvertently created this object, and only noticed what I had done when I had thin layers interacting with my level checkpoints.

I still haven't been able to figure out how I created this object, but have posted a level with a few simple demos showing things that would normally be impossible with the traditional thin layers. This level also gives you an object that is already on these extra thin layers so you too can build with them. Look for me "TraderSam" my level is currently in the south pacific.

Anyway, I posted this information in a thread in the "Help" forum, but that forum doesn't get much traffic. . . Here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=8186) is the link that will take you to my other thread. I implore you please look at this object, I want as many members of the community to be able to use these additional thin layers as possible.

I have an editable object in my level ("Glitch: Additional Thin Layers" name to be changed soon) that is a thin layer sitting on the thick layers. This link (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=8186) will take you to the thread in the Help forum where where there is a little bit more of a discussion going on regarding the topic, and how to edit the object. I will be reposting the level soon and will include a few different shapes of the material for you to use.

You appear to have duplicated the thickness of a checkpoint! Perfect for many things as sackboy can walk past it even though it occupies a thick layer! Great find!

It is really neat as if the material is grabby you can grab it (only at the edges) and still walk past it w/o interference. This makes for some interesting possibilites for moving platforms, switches, etc

I just checked out the remake of this level with a friend. Great job on it! And my friend was freakin' out at the possibilities... And me too, still! Especially with the realization that you can grab this thin layer, that's really freakin' amazing!2009-02-03 05:47:00

Such an amazing find... insane. I took every shape and now am forced to work with an even smaller profile after I JUST free'd up a little space again lol thanks though, alot. There is so much that could be done with what is essentially 3 more layers, that I don't even know where to begin. This is a gamer changer... I have to totally reevaluate how I build now, especially when it comes to multi-layered machines.2009-02-03 15:16:00

Hehe, if I want to work with this I actually have to go back to your level all the time, as my profile never saves I got it hearted so I can find it quickly... and cause you rock for having stumbled onto this then shared it with us xD2009-02-03 20:57:00

Sounds like a good way of having two layers of decoration on an object, or for decorations on the BG2009-02-06 08:48:00

I'm having trouble duplicating overlap in the same layer like you demonstrate in your level with the two pistons. Any tips on how to accomplish that?2009-02-07 21:09:00

This thin layer sits in the rear area of the fat layer it occupies. Knowing this try thick, thin, glitch thin to get a 3 layer stack with two "thin" layers up front.2009-02-09 09:44:00

The title of this thread just make me think:

"You got thin layers on my thick layers!"
"You got thick layers on my thin layers!"
"Two great layers that layer well together!"

Imagine a day when we have all thin layers from front to back. So our thick layers can be made up of say 5-10 thin layers and we have a depth grid from front to back as well as the side to side one we have now.
AND A CAMERA THAT CAN PAN 360 AND ZOOM RIGHT IN AND OUT IN CREATE

We can only dream right??????

This glitch takes us ever closer until MM patch it some how )

Great find man

That still doesn't explain how he had two special thin layers overlap, unless I was mistaken and it was actually a thin layer and a special thin layer -- in that case they obviously would overlap.

Yes. I'm pretty sure it is.

For those of you interested in the theck layer and its counterpart, the thack layer, check out comphermc's awesome LBPlanetorial:

Great find man

It's already been done. Drunken Fist Lee recently showed me a collection of glitched sub layers which he had discovered. Basically a series of thin sub-layers (not theck or thack), adding up to some 30+ sub-layers inside "normal" building space. Each layer interacted differently with sackboy and some even allowed him to walk on top like he was balancing on a tightrope. I don't think Lee's ever gone public with it though.

Yeah, @Drunkenfist_lee has been working on it for a while, like you said, not sure what his plans for it are though?
