Eye Candy!

Hey everyone! We?re back with a new contest, not a Crown contest this time but something smaller scale and fun. There are so many gifted artists and designers in the Community and we wanted to see what you could all do when freed from the constraints of having to create gameplay. So this contest is intended to showcase that artistic talent.

Create a scene, purely visual without any gameplay. Use a single camera to show the entire scene all at once. Design your scene with maximum attention to detail - this is a chance to spend the entire thermometer on just a small area! This contest is for both LBP2 and LBP Vita entries. An LBPC pin and a $20 PSN card (or its nearest equivalent in other currencies) will be awarded to the winner of each category (i.e. LBP2 and Vita).

Chose from one of the following themes and let your imagination run wild:

- Architecture
- Fantasy
- Historical
- Industrial
- Mythology
- Nature
- Silhouette
- Space

Updates

A level without gameplay: You are allowed to have the player spawn and then walk a short distance to reach the scene, however this should be very simple and we will only judge the fixed camera scene.
Also, the player can automatically enter a Controllinator seat. This can be made invisible if you don't want the player to be seen at all.
Or, you can make the level a Cutscene. This way the player won't even spawn.

Moving parts: The scene can have some movement. Say you wanted to put a flock of birds flying by in the background, that would be fine. There is no point putting in movement just for the sake of it though, if you use it, try and make it add something to your scene.

What we're looking for is for you guys to go all out on detail and atmosphere here. You are unlikely to have to worry about thermo so think about all those little touches you could put in. They will all add up to creating a 'Living Scene'.


Rules


? Create an original previously unpublished level based on one of the contest themes.

? The level should not have any gameplay (except walking a very short distance to reach the scene).

? One fixed camera showing the entire scene

? All entries must be playable in either LittleBigPlanet 2 OR LittleBigPlanet Vita.

? You can only enter one level. This means you must choose to enter either an LBP2 or a Vita entry NOT BOTH.

? Publish your levels by 11.55 pm GMT on Sunday November 17th and include the text ?(LBPC Eye Candy)? in the title of the level

? Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we?re sure not to miss them!

? You can only submit one entry.

? After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.

? Last but not least, have fun, play fair and respect other creators, LBPC members, Judges and Staff! (Contestants banned from LBPC at any time during the period of the contest are automatically disqualified from it)

Q: Can I enter a previously published level?
A: No.

Q: Can I enter a level I already have on my moon, but hasn't yet been published?
A: Yes.

Q: Once I've published my entry, can I republish it?
A: You can republish it during the publishing window as many times as you like, but mustn't republish after the deadline.

Q: When will the judging begin?
A: The judges may take a look at some levels prior to the deadline, but the judging proper will not begin until after the deadline.

Q: When will the results be posted?
A: We can't really give any accurate answer to this, but it will be no more than a month after the judging begins.

I have two questions:

1. What do you mean by silhouette?

2. Do biomes (scientific word for environments) count under nature?

One more question, if say, we want a car to drive across the scene, but we want it to come from "outside" said environment, is it okay if we emit it outside the 20x40 box, and only when it is inside the display does it actually count as part of the entry?

EDIT: Also, the rules say an unpublished level- if I have a project that I haven't officially published as a level, and only have it published so I can set up the linking and keep it safe in-case I need to undo a major element, can I use that? because I have something that would fit perfectly but it's in that exact situation. 		2013-11-03 20:34:00

Okay guys, we have a slight rule change. Upon closer inspection 40x20 is actually not as big as we thought it would be. The last thing we want to do is limit creativity by forcing you to contain it in a small(ish) area.
So we are going to remove the 40x20 rule and are now just asking you to use 1 fixed camera instead.

You've got it. We don't want to sit through movies or stage plays. It's all about the visuals and atmosphere of the scene you've created. It can have movement, but try to make it mean something. Like Pookachoo said, assume we won't be touching the controllers at all. As for cameras, you can use either. Personally I would have thought that a movie camera would be the way to go but it is completely up to you.		2013-11-04 07:15:00

I've added to the OP, clarifying what we mean by no gameplay and pointing out a few ways you can achieve this. Personally I think making a Cutscene is the simplest solution, but if you don't want to use a Movie Camera that's fine too.

Theme: Water... Or... Space.. I just took my artistic freedom and combined the two and created an underwater nebula.

Gameplay wise.. you can move a spacesub around, but thats it.
If you do consider moving a spacesub around as gameplay, tell me and ill delete it.

So many cool levels, I can tell people became much much better since I left.
back then I knew almost anybody who made nice visuals, now.. So many new faces and so many epic rooms!

I renamed my level to "Aquatic Nebula" btw,
removed control of the ship and r2 Bomb since I had pm's etc of people complaining about it.
(instead of just warning me they would go "You suck and should be qualified")
and added some little details.

You just have to create a scene within 1 fixed camera. Anything within that sight is going to be judged. Hope that clears it up!

You can set the camera zoom anywhere you want, but it must stay in one position - meaning you cannot change the camera zoom during the level.

As stated in the OP:

Contestants banned from LBPC at any time during the period of the contest are automatically disqualified from it
If your PSN acct its banned, check to see when the ban ends. If it ends soon there would be time to publish and entry.

Me and SpankyDuckButter made it when the muppetpack came out
But because of thermo I couldn't use it in a level (it fills half the thermo in just this little bit of eye candy)

But it was the music from DokterVintij that inspired me to make it

couldn't have done it without these 2

Just sit back and enjoy the view, looking through the window, getting snowed in

I made my main camera that overlooks my scene "rumble" or "shake" occasionally. Does that still count as a "fixed camera" and is considered acceptable? Also, I have additional cameras prior to my main "fixed camera" that overlooks my scene. I know those camera angles won't be judged but is it breaking the rules?

I'm not the most qualified to be answering your qusetions here, but I would suggest you reconsider your entry a bit since the level calls for a scene and not a movie, as I feel that you are getting the wrong idea. In any case, I would say that you probably could have some dialogue for your characters as long as they are in your scene and the overall focus of your scene and entry is based on what is around the characters. 		2013-11-12 05:54:00

Good luck everyone! I have also played close to 70 of these levels, and I loved seeing imagination soar. It was a breath of fresh air, and the diversity of styles, concepts and execution was inspiring.

Wow! That would have made a fantastic entry, but I know what it feels like to have so much pressure on finishing something that you can't because of other demanding thing... my time was PLCC4. Anyways, you should work that out into a level or something!

It may be that LBPCC2 will still hold the record, as numerous Eye Candy entries will be disqualified, according to the above quoted ruling established by the Contest Crew, for being published after the deadline and for not posting a repub request in this thread. This was a good contest I think for first time entrants.
Very accessible, because artistic value is all that goes into it. thank goodness because that's all I am good at.
I think we need a really demanding contest next time

I spent more time playing levels, taking and uploading pics, than actually putting that montage together. Unfortunately some of the darker levels look way too dark in the screenshots. I made adjustments to some pics in photoshop and they're better, but you've really got to play these levels to see all the details.2013-11-24 22:29:00
