It Cannot Just Be Me

Hello Guys - Little bit of a serious topic here, but I think it is time someone brought it up: do Team Picks really mean anything anymore? I've been playing the LittleBigPlanet series since launch, and I remember when a pick made you a virtual god. Nowadays, 90% of creators that get picked have unoriginal, boring and reruns of the same theme and gameplay over and over again! I see the most amazing levels with completely original gameplay, themes, and those that just ooze fun; yet they are passed up for a mainstream Bigsurf or yu-kameone level. And don't even get me started with those so called "Seasonal Picks". Is it us as a community that is failing, or is it Steven? | 2013-10-29 07:13:00 Author: Jujupon Posts: 22 |
Prepare for controversy! But seriously, I think people take this game too seriously...seriously. (AS THEY SHOULD CUZ IT'S LIKE DA BEST GAMEZ EVARZZZ!!) A team pick never really "meant" anything, other than some guy(s)/girl(s) at MM or Tarsier or wherever liked your level. I suppose if you admire the developers of the game like I do, then getting a team pick would be really cool. But it doesn't always mean your level is of pristine quality nor does it mean you earned it. To be honest, I think it would be worse if StevenI only picked supa-dupa awesomesauce levels, because Spaff tried that and people complained more then than they do now...well...more or less... The way it is now, anyone who puts enough effort into their levels for it to be functional and playable and moderately fun with a hint of uniqueness will have the opportunity to get picked. Inevitably, you will have some levels that might be well...meh...but you can just brush those aside and focus on the good ones, and there are A LOT of GOOD picks out there. That being said, I really wish StevenI would write reviews on why he picked a level. Maybe people might be less inclined to think he just picks whatever he wants if he says why he picked it. I don't mean full-fledged, poetic, deeply thought, Shakespearian reviews, just something that says why he would pick this like: "OMG, I can't stop playing this level! So addicting!" or "three words...BEST.LEVEL.EVAR!" He could pretend he's on Twitter and keep it within 149 characters or something. Bottom line: MM picks don't say anything about the quality or amount of work put into your level. If you like your level and you had fun making it, then that should be all that matters. It's not like we're getting paid to make levels (like some lucky folks are), this is just a game and a game is supposed to be fun. Though...considering I actually have 4 Team Picks, I might be a little biased................ Naaaaaaah..... | 2013-10-29 08:26:00 Author: comishguy67 Posts: 849 |
I think this happens because of the new rule thingie, Like why Mm pick every week? It could be like, when Steveni found 3 good levels that he thinkare unique or amazinghe should pick them, Not meaning doing it a boring job every week. It would be better for steveni and for everyone Oh and Remmeber the time mnniska was popular? Or Tendon? everyone copyed them, now it is Bigsurf and yu-kameone's time, Butstill there is alot good levels, Like mines Just kidding, about my levels but yeah there is still alot good levels! Season picks are for celebrating season, and there is goodones even though there is not much. But who cares just have fun | 2013-10-29 10:02:00 Author: Five-Ate-Five Posts: 197 |
I find it funny how people with picks, even though it was an ok level, start bragging about how they are a better creator than me... | 2013-10-29 13:50:00 Author: Jujupon Posts: 22 |
While being recognized would be cool, I make my levels for me. If I got a crown, I don't think you'd ever even see it on my sackling. I don't try to copy what I see out there, I try to make things I haven't seen. That might even hurt my chances if something was popular with Steven for which i didn't fit the mold. Build what makes you happy, not what makes you popular. (unless the only thing that makes you happy is being popular) | 2013-10-30 19:35:00 Author: DreadRandal Posts: 434 |
While it is nice to be recognized by Mm, you shouldn't make it more than what it is. While they have picked some really great levels over the years, I would never call it the "Gold Standard". They are fun levels that they enjoyed and felt like sharing it with the community. Some may have also fit the mood or theme of a particular season. Getting one doesn't say "Best Ever". ...well, except for my pick. lol (kidding!!!) I think what is important and even more relevant is getting an LBPC Community Spotlight. Being judged worthy by your peers here on LBPC is saying quite a bit. They are not only quite fair, but they play everything published in the Level Showcase. | 2013-10-31 00:52:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I think there HAS to be 3 new team picks every week. The easiest (lazy) way of finding pickable levels is to play levels by creators who have already been picked. That's why so many creators have multiple picks now. Being picked doesn't mean your level is good, it just means the developers liked it or Steven liked it. Steven played our level, apparently he didn't like it because he didn't give it a yay (although over half the people who played it have hearted it.... http://lbp.me/v/qn-2q21 ) | 2013-10-31 01:48:00 Author: dragonboy269 Posts: 172 |
@dragonboy269 He played my level as well. I received a yay, but I've lost hope on a pick even though SO many famous creators love my level and regular people as well. Oh well, there's always next weeks spotlight! | 2013-10-31 03:32:00 Author: Jujupon Posts: 22 |
I think what is important and even more relevant is getting an LBPC Community Spotlight. Being judged worthy by your peers here on LBPC is saying quite a bit. They are not only quite fair, but they play everything published in the Level Showcase. I agree that the LBPC Spotlight is top dog in my book. I even think it would be great if the Spotlight Team, LBN and maybe a couple of other sites all could help with the Team picks! In a way, I think they already do because I?m sure those spotlighted levels do a get a closer look from the powers that be. As for the whole Team Pick process, It's usually just one person?s opinion, so I don't worry about it too much. I can say I've played some really awesome Team Picked levels, so the process isn?t entirely flawed. I do like that more levels than ever are being picked and I hope that trend continues. I also don't think that the picker should be confined to only picking 3 or 4 each week. If there are 5 or 10 worthy levels, then just pick them all! Try thinking about yourself and what you might do if you had Team Pick power. How would you pick? I know what I like and how I might pick, but I?m positive I would easily enrage a ton of people with my picks. In the end, I think what makes the Team Picks so important to most of us is that getting one will usually bring you a ton of plays and help set you up for even more future success. For some, it probably also helps validate all the hard work and effort they put in. I think we would all be lying if we didn?t want a lot of people to play our levels. I don't get a lot of plays myself, but when I see someone who I respect in the community play my level and give it a thumbs up or good review, that means quite a lot to me. Thanks! | 2013-10-31 19:04:00 Author: peoriaspitfire Posts: 359 |

team picks bring plays, hearts, tons of random game invites , tons of random friend requests, tons of weird level comments, and a nice pink ribbon and maybe a stalker or 2 i agree with peoria kinda.a pink ribbon means alot, but how do you weigh it against a fellow creator's positive review, let alone, this be a creator who you highly respect and look to for inspiration. if one of my inspirational creators positively reviews my level, it makes me cheese like that spongbob meme. btw aquafried by spitfire is in my list of levels that havent been team picked but would be if I picked em!!!!! for instance you have great visual creators as notorious, peoria, lord warblade. if any one of these 3 gave me props on my visuals, i would giggle. or if zippopot, comphermc, or evret gave me kudos for my logic or z11o990, person name on type of my tongue gave me props for a contraption or if just tom, slurms mckenzie, or sbg gave me props for an orginal idea or yu kamon, big surf, alley cat gave me props for layout/flow of a platformer even people who dont create, such as bio rogue leaving behind his "biorogue approved stamp" or bryan zutterbeg or avudndc this is just a shortlist of names, there are tons more that i would include, cause this game has a huge array of creators that make my jaw fall to the floor while playing there levels. or etc etc u get the point right? | 2013-11-01 16:07:00 Author: L-I-M-I Posts: 611 |

Man, I do miss the days of MM picks. I understand Team Picks provide more levels, but there was something special about MM picks--particularly when LBP2 first debuted, and you knew pretty much all of them would showcase innovative ideas. I still remember the first days I played LittlebigFantasy and Frozen Flame. Good Times.. I personally enjoyed the challenge of trying to make MM picks, but I guess I was too late lol But there are still good levels out there to be discovered and competition crowns etc. But I personally think the spotlights on sites like this are more valuable than MM picks ever could be.( Minus the benefit of a jillion plays) BUT who knows. Maybe with Littlebigplanet Hub coming back, some of those creators will come back or new legendary creators could emerge. Perhaps they could implement a classics section for the new players as well. I still dont think I seen an RPG better than Sealed Fate yet, for instance. | 2013-11-02 17:16:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |
