Seeing Red (8 different endings, each with thier own boss! Pics and vids)

Archive: 20 posts

Play my level Seeing RED.

Welcome to the world of RED. Usually a fun place to be, has been raided by strange blue glowing creatures, and it's up to you to find out how/why, and stop it!!!

This level's got 8 random endings, each complete with it's own boss, and mini story.

There's also a hidden room that allows you to choose which ending you get.

You know, I've seen a LOT of this style of level lately. At first I was thinking, "oh no.... it's the same game again only in red..."

But you know, I'm really impressed. You're a very creative author, and you have a keen sense of humor. I'm hoping you show some of the same humor on this forum as you do in your games, because some of the content you have is really clever.

I'm not going to go into a pros and cons section like I normally would, because I just feel this was a well-balanced experience. Adding the sword in the stone in the middle was also really creative.

I had a significant giggle near the end with the director part. I wasn't expecting that at all.

The level wasn't really challenging, but it didn't need to be. I think the experience spoke for itsself.

Keep up the good work. You're a really good author. I threw a heart on this one (although you have a lot of them, so you probably won't notice).

I played your level and wow. I wanted to test out whether there were actually 8 random endings. I got two of the endings and they were really funny. (One was with the blue man group and the other was some tree.)

You really have talent, I hearted and gave it five stars. This level is very deserving of them both. Very innovative.

OCK recommended this to me a few weeks ago. I played this, and got two of the endings. It was a great level. A friend of mine told me he found the secret room, and I think I would have too my 2nd play, but opted to not follow the path in case it took me back to the beginning :/

I really like the red look and the silhouettes, and my favorite part was the samurai sword and slicing the birds in half. I am working on some fuedalist era stuff that I haven't touched for awhile and that showed me that I can do some good things with it. I was thinking how I could have enemies slice and dice with the sword I designed, and spray blood and now I have both ideas down pat after seeing a few good implementations like this. Good stuff.

The short time spent in the world makes it seem really fun and entertaining. There's alot of simple style and sillyness, very much like a Mario game, without the terrible Mario homage. I liked the mini-boss with the descending missiles... the way they come down in a comedic and menacing way, reminded me of a Road Runner cartoon lol

I really have no idea how you achieved the multiple endings based on a certain parameter, but I guess I get the principle of emitting them... and it's very ingenious.

Great level, I actually played this a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. My favorite part was slicing the birds in half with the sword, very well done. I also liked how you implemented the word RED into your writing, it was a nice touch. I got the Bowser ending and it made me smile. Nice work, hearted.2009-01-30 09:06:00

I have a proposal for you. Depending on what ending you get, you get a sticker with a number. Then on the next playthrough, using that sticker at the start means you DONT get that ending. That way you don't keep getting the same ending (I know, the room, but still...)2009-01-30 09:14:00

Hey! Maraz_Matari! How the heck are ya'! I know you know how I feel about your level but I figured I'd share it with the community here. While this level appears to be a bit basic at first, there is nothing basic about it. Maraz is clearly capable of manipulating the building tool/materials to create unique and enjoyable experiences. His knowledge and use of a specific glitch gives this level a different look and his ability to make complex systems gives you a different ending each time you play! Amazing! He also has a great sense of humor to top it off. I was lucky enough to know Maraz while he was making this level and got to see it as a sort of "work in progress" and seeing how it came out I was very impressed. Maraz has great concepts and I suggest checking out his other stuff as well, mainly Manifesto Chapter 2 and Color Shooter. When you get a chance. Maraz (and if you wouldn't mind, of course), leave me some feedback in my ROBO-RAMPAGE X (series) thread here in the showcase!2009-01-30 18:08:00

Wow, you're here! Welcome to the dark side, maraz! I recommended your level a while ago in the "recommend a level" area of the forums, but it's good to see you here in the showcase!

Oh, and mr. maraz matari also has a really cool super color shooter level you all have to try if you like gradius type games. ^_^

@dkjestrup reading your idea, I'd love to add it, but it simply isn't practical for the way the whole system works. However, you have inspired me to work more on the level and add a 9th ending!!! However this still requires people to find the hidden room. That being said, once I've done the changes, it will become much easier to find the room too

This won't be for a while, as I'm going to work on other projects first. Then when I'm more in the mood to mess with it I'll edit it in.

I've copied and posted this from the GFAQS thread.

The very stylish look was the first thing to hit me. I've played a lot of the levels with the same type of look, and they all look great, I like the contrast of colours, the red and the blue etc.. The first enemys you fight look very good, the paintinator switches are unrecognisable, the only problem I had was that the wheels and brains remainaned after the enemys had been defeated. Good use of the paintinator on the section with the blocks blocking your path.

I am starting to really hate swinging on cloth attached to rope, its a very common obstacle that most levels seem to use, definetly a pet hate of mine.

I'd like to know how you got the paintinator switch to reset on the feeding the monster section. The use of the paintinator really throughout the level really is very good.

The level is well designed, not to hard, it has a nice flow it, the sections have nice little obstacles to solve, and progress throughout is well balanced.

I tried grabbing the sword a couple of times and could'nt get it to move, so I continued upwards and got a magic mouth telling me I could'nt take the sword any further when I did'nt have it, a small problem I know, but it stood out. I don't actually know what the sword was for, I seemed to have bypassed the whole section.

I lol'd the donkey kong smurf, a complete suprise when it appeared. That was something I was NOT expecting. I died here and had to restart, the slope is very steep and the electrified logs come quick!

After restarting I noticed if you moved left from the start, what looks like a switch mecahnism is visiable :-)

I cancelled the jetpack on the second playthrough and went to the right of the sword, I could'nt get past the sword again to collect the jetpack needed to progress because its all on one plane and the sword only kills you from one direction. This is also true after using the jetpack, you only need to pop sackboy and restart so its nothing major, just something I noted that may be easy to fix.

I don't want to spoil the area I found, but a bit more length to the jetpack and cryptic hints here would help IMO.

I got the sword on the this playthough and realised its use.

And I must say, I was very very very impressed by what I saw after the secret area. This blew me away, and will encourage multiple playthroughs, after the first shock and lol at this area,to it see again (without to many spoilers, you know what section I mean reaper) was incredible. This has to be one of the best sections to encourage players in LBP to replay I've seen, its THE best user controlled section I've seen. Very very very well done.

I must say, the level was excellent, I've hearted it for another few plays just to see what changes. Awesome Awesome level. Its ending is very well constructed, designed and implemented. This is how to make a replayable, intresting, and excellent level.

The few small flaws I noticed dropped the score a .1, which would have been the highest score I'd given in this thread.

Everyone needs to play and experience the end section, its fantastically done.

**** and "brilliant" tag, and hearted

I had a lot of fun playing this level yesterday, it has humor and creativity and replayability. I like the carefree attitude and that it is a fun level rather than a gritty, intense or tricky type level.

There were good helpings of humor and the boss I got at the ending was the perfect ending. (Blue Man Group.) I did find the secret room but I had carried the knife up with me for whatever reason. The knife was pushing buttons and I dropped it, dropped the jet pack and had to run back. Subsequently I have no idea which number ending I got but it doesn?t really matter.

Luckily for me you had another set of jetpacks back in the sword room which shows that you have done a good amount of work on the level.

I don't remember it being particularly long as a level but it was more enjoyable than longer levels I have played. The boss in the middle with the rotating rings seems a bit of a jump in difficulty compared to what comes before and after it and was the most difficult part of the level for me.

Paintinator was integrated nicely into the level such that it didn?t feel gimmicky. It would have been good if more of the grabbable balls spoke up later in the game but that is a small thing.

Good work here.

Just finished a couple playthroughs and really enjoyed the experience. I'm a fan of the silhouette look and I think you handled it very well here. I liked that you added visual detail in other ways, such as the birds splitting in half when cut. Very simple, but in a silhouette, stuff like that really matters.

The storyline is simple but very funny and entertaining. I played through a couple of the endings and each one made me laugh out loud. The platforming was pretty basic, although you also worked in some pretty creative uses of the paintinator, such as using it to shut the dino's mouth.

The hidden area with the ability to chooses your own path is a very cool addition and I WILL be back to see the rest of the endings. I have no doubt that they'll be as entertaining as the others I've seen. If I had any criticism, it may be that the final bosses don't look as nice as the rest of the level due to the pistons showing. I know that'd be hard to modify and ultimately it's really not that big of a deal, just a small observation.

Nice job overall!

Hey man, i'm off to try this level right now:

I liked the idea to have multiple endings, but the fact you have to play the entire level atleast 8 times, kinda annoyed me. Especially the mini-boss, the electrified circle who spawned rockets.

Cool idea though

Tip for anyone on the mini boss, as people seem to have problems with it. You can shoot the rockets and blow them up before they hit the ground, this actually saves you time, and lives .

Thanks guys for playing this, and for the feedback. It's much appreciated.
