How do I get objects to move throughout layers?

Archive: 4 posts

So in my level, you have to carry certain objects throughout the level, but the problem is they're all on different layers and things will get in the way, so here's my question: Is there a way that will allow you to change object layer by just my sackboy grabbing it (with a grab sensor)? I didn't want to go down the route of putting Grabinators in my level, so any help would be really good!!2013-10-23 16:06:00

You can put layer movers on your object, triggered by tags placed where you need them. I would use 3 movers, one for each layer to be moved to, and a corresponding tag and sensor for each.

I would put a chip on your object, then three in/out movers(one set forward, one middle, one back), each activated by its own sensor. Then, wherever you need the object in a specific layer, place the appropriate tag.

However, if you need the player to grab the object at the right time to avoid a catastrophe, I would have each mover attached to an and gate, each and gate activated by a grab sensor and the appropriate tag sensor so that it knows what layer to now be in when grabbed.

if u use a flicker switch and theres something in the way the object wont change layers, but if u connect the tag to a selector which is connected to the layer switch the object will switch layers after it is no longer, blocked. the downside to this is the potential to be stuck in that layer until a different layer tag is triggered. id go with the flicker effect and make sure nothing will prevent it from shifting layers.2013-10-23 20:07:00

Yeah you can just use in and out movers, and make it shift layers with the player sensor once you get there.2013-10-23 20:38:00
