YouTube criticism in danger?

Archive: 10 posts

As we all know, YouTube's take on copyright claims is downright broken. It can easily be abused in oh-so-many ways and it, surprisingly often, is. Most often does this happen with criticism-videos on the site. Uploaders who criticize games, movies and other things such as art or television are, of course, most targeted with these rights (not including music-related stuff, because there's just too much of that). If you are a rights-holder, you can easily take down a video with a click of a button. What this leads into is controversy. People who are fair in terms of copyright issues can get their videos taken down simply because they criticize the material. A simple video by one of the best YouTubers in the history of YouTube will explain this in far more detail than I.

My suggestion? Spread this video where you can (apart from Facebook, because nothing is more terrifying than having people who know you find you on the internet) and have people acknowledge this controversy.

Discuss.

Saw the video earlier today, and I whole-heartedly agree.

All of us need to get down Google's *** about their copy-right systems. I don't have any social media thingiemabobbers (just Twitter, with my whole 1 follower), but I know us LBPC ladies and gentlemen can help out and share.

Those guys were pretty stupid to mess with TotalBiscuit. When he speaks, people listen.2013-10-21 03:24:00

It's not about TotalBiscuit. There are tens of amateur critics on YouTube and they are the ones most threatened by these copy-right rules. TotalBiscuit is a big name and can get his words heard, but those lesser critics can't.2013-10-21 10:18:00

I know. That's exactly why it was stupid of them to mess with his channel out of all people. He has the means, eloquence and charisma to change things and make himself heard.2013-10-21 12:02:00

This is true. Things can be changed, as the past has already proven and I really hope something will be done about this.2013-10-21 13:06:00

Youtube has really gone downhill. In addition to this, the real name stuff is stupid. I can't even sign in anymore because they only give you two options (use real name and create a Google+ profile linked with your account, or keep your username and create a Google+ profile linked with your account, practically harassing/forcing you into using their stupid social media service.)2013-10-21 14:13:00

I accepted it, then went into my account's settings and chose to cancel the link between my Youtube and Google account. They haven't harassed me since.

Also annoying are the changes they've made to the way a video buffers. It's the bane of people with slow or limited internet connections.

It seems that another famous YouTuber has decided to go against the developers. This YouTuber being OfficialNerdCubed. Also the developer even claimed that "you can make YouTube videos" on the game. Yet he claims copyright against anyone who makes criticism of it? How pathetic.2013-10-21 20:17:00

The funniest video they made out of this game is called I Broke Day One, by BirgirPall (TB mentioned it in his video). Check it and the guy's other vids, they're hilarious.

I'd link to it, but it contains swear words.
