PS3 data Transfer help!

Archive: 15 posts

Well i know it sounds crazy but my Dad is buying another PS3 once they drop to $299 to use as a blu ray movie player on another T.V
I could still use the new PS3 for gaming too but i was wondering if there was a way to transfer saved files from 1 ps3 to another.

as save file i mean gamefiles.

is there any ways i could use. AND if there is a way would it work with PS2 games that have Data saved on PS3 too?

I assume you have cardreaders then.
But as the new one you'll buy won't have cardreaders, you'll need a writable disc?

No problem, PS2 saves won't work as your new one will probably won't have BC
I mean you will be able to put them on, but you can't play PS2 games on it.

Should be able to use a USB device one way or another to transfer the files. By the way, there's nothing crazy about owning a second PS3; your father sounds like one smart individual. The PS3 is the media hub of my life.2009-01-29 21:16:00

Well, if it's gonna be a 40GB version it won't.
But if you're getting a 80GB, some have BC and some don't.

And I'd say buy a huge GB USB stick, so you can put ALOT on it, maybe even make a backup for your PS3 in case if you think it's gonna die (has nothing to do with the current subject)

If your 80GB Ps3 comes with 4 USB slots in the front, it has BC, if it only has 2, it doesn't have BC.2009-01-29 21:41:00

Your best (and frankly, only) option is to get a USB flash drive. They're really cheap, now. You can get four or eight gig or so for $10, although 16 gig is still in the twenties, last I checked. I've only got a two gig, but I've been doing a lot of moving with it, including some assorted music and personal backup stuff taking up most of the memory. If you don't have one, get one. You can use it everywhere, for virtually everything. It's great. Plus, every new PS3 doesn't have the other forms of storage, so USB is your only way to go.

Now, you can use a USB-connected external hard drive (or a very large USB drive depending on what you've got on it) and do a complete file backup on that for the entire system. But that might be overkill. Just save files are really pretty small. It'd be if you want to transfer some downloaded games or DLC without taking another notch out of the download limit, and the USB is too small that you'd do that. And you probably don't have one of those laying around.

Also. Allow me to warn you, and your dad, that the $300 PS3 is not gonna happen. A few years from now when tech gets cheaper still, possibly, but no sooner. But Sony is losing too much money on each unit as it is, and with the restructuring they're now very focused on making money from the gaming sector. And taking another $100 hit for every single unit is counter-intuitive to that end. They like the system where it is, and it will stick there. So I'd advise against your dad banking on something that's a complete, unfounded rumor.

Oh, and the 40 gig is discontinued. The 80 gig took its place. Same system, bigger memory.
