LBPC Constantly Changing Level!

Archive: 9 posts

I've recently discovered that once you publish a level, you can then overwrite that level with anything on your moon and still retain all stats relating to the original level.

Eg. Publish level "A", come back a week later and it has 100 plays, 6 hearts, 2 comments. Now go to your moon, select level "B" hit publish and overwrite the already published level "A". Now you are left with level "B" but all of levels "A"'s stats (100 plays, 6 hearts, 2 comments).

This got me thinking, you could have a level that constantly changes, this would have the same people (and hopefully more) coming back for more every week/month to check it out.

Now there's the flaw that your ratings would differ with each version but it would even out overall. If you constantly upload good levels you will constantly get good ratings.

This could also be used for forums like this one, for example you could have one level simply called "LBPC spotlighted level of the week/month" and just upload different user levels every week. This would no doubt lead to a massive amount of hits after a while and it wouldn't be long before you see the first LBPC level on page one of cool pages.

It would also be a great way of highlighting each author that makes it into the level each week.

Hey that is actually a pretty great idea. You could do the spolight of the week next to the hearted stuff that's already there. The only problem with that is that the creator of the level won't get the recognition from those plays. The one uploading needs to be the same person all the time.2009-01-29 14:59:00

Wait, so different levels can "steal" the stats of any published level? It doesn't even need to keep the same name? That's a pretty big oversight on MM's part 2009-01-29 15:02:00

This is true, the only recognition the proper author would get is from putting the name in the description or the level. But it would direct a lot of people to the spotlighted hearted list where people can play older spotlightlighted levels.

Yes, its a massive oversight, but one that I think could be exploited in a great number of ways

Indeed... I don't think I'm ever going to "unpublish" a level knowing this now. Big question though, do all the comments stay? I guess it would be best to manually wipe the entire comments page when publishing a different level...

Yeah, everything stays. all comments, hearts, plays and star rating. I found this out as I was going to delete a level I just published a completely different level over it just to see what would happen.

Yeah, I noticed that early on, but the only one I've actually done it with is son of ramp because I don't care about the level. That is a great idea with the LBPC spotlight level. It could be the main lev for the heart listing spotlight level.2009-01-29 18:17:00

I like this idea. We're all here to make and play fun levels, so imo if my level on the LBPC psn gets lots of plays, thats just as good as the original getting them.. Besides, in the description section you could put the recent history of the levels and authors that previously were spotlighted. I think this would be a great thing to start doing! Nice catch wex.2009-01-29 20:20:00

Even if this wasn't taken on board by LBPC I still think there could be useful ways to use this for a persons own levels..

Maybe a good way to give out certain items you want to share? Have a different item every week?
