The Haunted Mine

Archive: 3 posts

Hey guys, I'm new here, and here's the level I'm working on right now:

Concept

The concept is that you are investigating a mine that is supposedly haunted. It is very dark, with low brightness oil lamps lighting the way. As you run along, you hear a roar in the distance, then a crack, as if the ceiling is falling in, and a huge hand comes through the roof, prompting you to run back the way you came, where a piece of the ceiling has fallen down as a makeshift ramp. As it happens, up here is a service elevator. You take a ride up in that, passing a huge skeleton, possibly one of the creature's earlier victims. You exit the elevator to find a rope bridge across a chasm. Surprise surprise, it breaks, and you are forced to jump across, risking life and sack-limb to get there. After the bridge, there is a gas leak, which then explodes, leaving you to drop down a shaft into a mine cart. You ride the cart down a short track, and then get out. You then arrive at a iron frame type thing, which has grabbable things, which slowly lower you down a shaft. As you are on the way down, you must slowly swing to avoid flaming rocks, and once past them, you descend into a cavern, with th lights growing stronger the closer you get. The music builds slowly throughout the shaft descent.

That is as far as I have got so far.

I would take some pictures, but my camera hates the darkness of it, and makes it very very bright. If someone would be up for it, I'll play through the level with you, and if possible, you could take some pictures/a video?

It's nowhere near finished, so if you want a play through, add me (goaliekid).

So that's it, what do ya think?

Certainly sounds exciting, but without pictures or play-through its hard to say...
Don't take this the wrong way or anything, but the story concept is, well, not extraordinarily original. But if the game play is solid and the level looks nice, that needn't be a problem.
In any case, I look forward to seeing how this comes out. Good luck dude.

I agree, visuals are going to be key on such a project. Make sure everything is perfectly polished before you release it.
It should also stand out, so make sure that monster thing is well designed.
