Cover in Paint Tool

Archive: 12 posts

I wish there was a tool where you could just press it and have the whole object be colored in that paint color. I hate putting thousands of those tiny stickers all over my objects!

I also think itd be cool if you could take apart MM objects without them deleting everything or using the dissolve trick.

Make the object tiny, make the paint sticker huge, place the sticker then resize the object to normal size. If you do it right it should have covered the whole object.2009-01-29 13:42:00

What would be better still is some kind of paint bucket tool to let you fill an area with a gradient effect without having to painstakingly line up stickers like you do now.2009-02-02 18:46:00

Lining up stickers? What's wrong with sticking a huge sticker on it? Always works. Problem is that there aren't many solid sticker colors to go around with.2009-02-03 12:09:00

I think he meant a sort of brush, so let's say you make a wooden block white, you can just put a huge sticker on it... But, if you would want a purple line in the middle (for some reason..) then you'd need like 10 smaller purple stickers. So, if you could just paint it with a brush, everyone would be pleased 2009-02-03 16:09:00

You can do it that way, but the smaller you make the stickers the more apparent the gradient effect is. So if you want a really noticeable gradient you usually need to use several stickers.

Another annoyance with this is if you place some gradient stickers, then cancel out and then later realize you need to add more, you have make sure the new stickers are scaled to exactly the same size as the old ones, or else remove them all and start from scratch.

Ah ok, like that. You've got a point there, it really is a big hassle to paint complicated stuff. A brush would be good although I doubt the filesize and/or engine would like it...

For workarounds you could "overlay" stickers. For example you want a purple line on a white block: Sticker the entire block white. Then sticker the top half with a large purple sticker and then sticker the top quarter of the block with a big white sticker again. If that's to much stickers you could always make a picture of the entire thing and apply that.

You could also make your block from slightly different materials, so you can sticker the separate blocks with big stickers and they will just wrap around that block.

Hope that made sense.

Yeah i understand what you mean, but there's a few problems.

- If you're near the top of the object, you can't make your sticker huge, since it will automatically move up, and turn out to be on the background (if i understand)

- Your second "workaround" has the visual disadvantages that you see Lines, since the game sees it as seperate blocks.

(*Also hoping i made sense*)

It's not perfect . For the first workaround: you could initially make you object a bit bigger so you CAN make it huge and then cut the top half off..

The second one... Yep you will see lines .

This is the best I can do, a paint tool would be good stuff indeed.
