Pendulum problems!

Archive: 4 posts

Hey guys, I've been kinda stuck on this for a few days.
I cannot seem to make a infinitely swinging pendulum for my level! My goal would be for it to swing independently of players position but if I could also just make it start when a player got close that'd be good too.
Here's my set up right now
46857
46858

It works okay the only problem is it wont get full swing and get stuck like this
46859

So if you guys could help me out that'd be awesome! Thanks a bunch!

(p.s. How does one embed pictures into a post? thanks!)

The easy way to solve your problem is to use a wobble bolt to swing the pendulum. The wobble bolt (with pause set to zero) will produce the same motion of a pendulum.

If you want to use logic to move the pendulum you will need to give it a little push (when the pendulum is at its lowest position) in the same direction it's travelling.
1. Connect a Speed Sensor (Speed set to 0.1 and Direction set to Left & Right only) to the input of a direction splitter.
2. Connect each of the two outputs of the Direction Splitter to two AND gates.
3. Connect an Angle Sensor (with angle set to around 10 degrees) to both AND gates.
4. Connect the outputs from the AND gates to two Movers. Set Input to ON/OFF, strength set to 100%, and vary the speed to vary the amount the pendulum swings. Set the Mover that is connected to the negative output from the Direction Splitter to the same speed as the other, but make it negative.

When the pendulum swings it activates the Angle Sensor when the pendulum is at it's lowest position. When the Angle Sensor activates, the Speed Sensor will send a signal to either of the AND gates depending on which way it's travelling. The AND Gates then activate one of the Movers for the short period of time as the pendulum passes by it's lowest position.

This solution may need some way of starting it swinging.

To insert a picture into your thread.

NOTE: This section is mainly for Firefox or Chrome users. If you're using Internet Explorer then go to Google and type in Mozilla Firefox or Chrome and download one of those browsers.

1. Got to your LBP.me profile and Find your pic(s) click on it, then click it again so that it's the
only thing in the window. Now I think you have to actually click it 3 time for it to be the ONLY thing in the window

2. Copy the URL. come to your thread and click the Insert picture tool http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/LBPC-Style/editor/insertimage.png

3. a box will pop up, click on the "from URL" tab

4. paste the URL in the box
Be sure to UNCHECK the box that says "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"
Unchecking this box, makes the picture bigger

5. click "OK"

If for some reason the "insert picture tool" is not displayed, then just put your link in between image tags
link and it will do the same thing. Make sure your link is in plain text format though (not linked)

I tried using a wobble bolt originally but it wouldn't work, I put in both on the base of my pendulum as well as the top and it had no result, wouldn't attach to the rod :/
But I think It maybe because I'm in the third layer and I need to stay there because I'm making a race sequence that is behind the normal level. Is there any way around this? Because using a wobble bolt would be ideal.
