Killzone: Mercenary

Archive: 12 posts

Well, I bought Killzone: Mercenary.

It's really, really fun.

When it comes to single-player, the plot is... eh, but the single-player campaign itself is fairly good, and there's lots of replay value.

When it comes to multiplayer, the game kicks ***. Multiplayer is definitely where KM shines, and the giant 1.4 GB patch (had to delete some demos to make room for it) seems to have made it pretty stable. The ranking system's smart, the gunplay is weighty and solid, and the modes are different enough to where I don't get bored too fast.

So overall, I'm pretty happy with the game. It does what you'd expect for an FPS, the graphics are phenomenal, and the package is $20 cheaper than most PS3 games.

Does anybody else have it? If so, go ahead and share your thoughts, and feel free to add me as a friend (ryan86me) so we can play some time .

TL;DR: The game's good enough to make this kid dance.

Cool preview of the game. I'm probably getting it as soon as my wallet allows me to do so.2013-09-13 03:30:00

I tried out the beta and was really impressed. I remember trying out Killzone 2 a few years ago but not liking it because of the awkward controls. This game nails the controls perfectly. I'll have to get this and Shadow Fall at some point, but I'll probably wait for Christmas.2013-09-13 03:31:00

Tried the beta, definitely the best handheld shooter out there. Not planning to get it until I get a cluster of games first, though.2013-09-13 04:15:00

I have it, finished the game already on Veteran + Got al the intell. And now I'm busy with all those extra contracts, that is, if my bro ever gives the game back. xD Liked the campaign very much, with lots of replayability and good gameplay, the plot was not bad but I had expected better. But the magnificent online gameplay greatly made up for that.
There are three game modes: Mercenary Warfare (Deathmatch), Guerilla Warfare (Team Deathmatch) and Warzone, a gametype which requires you and your team to do various tasks within time limits, the team with the most points at the end wins. There are six maps, and you can use whatever gear you bought in single player in multiplayer and vice-versa. Game is very stable and online is just fun to play, with great variation between all six maps.
Also got that exclusive pre-order LMG: The M224-A1. Awesome weapon but unfit for playing online due to the low accuracy and firespeed which are easily topped by other guns. It has an enourmous clip though (96) and those bullets that burst trough armor. It's very good for the campaign though as you can mow down an entire battalion of Helghast soldiers with it without reloading. (Which goes rather slow.)

Platinum'd!
Also to add to my semi-big wall of text before, I do love how the story portrays that both sides will stop at nothing to win the war, that the ISA is just as cruel and "evil" as the Helghast are. That's a nice move the developers pulled off.

Heh, just bought this game a couple of days ago and I'm really loving it! The lag is almost nonexistant and that is a very remarkable achievement. I love campaign and multipkayer as well! 8) Grear shooter, can't wait for Shadow Fall.2013-10-02 21:04:00

Good to see somebody buy it, I'll add you so we can play sometime .

Anyway, it astonishes me that some review sites gave this game as low as a 5. I understand that it's all in the eye of the beholder, but frankly, a 5 is just ridiculous.

I have this game and loved every second of it especially the ability to stealth through most of the levels.

I can't believe any reviwer would rate this 5 or below thats outrageous, I gave up on reading reviews long ago as they are very biased and expect every game to be brand new and amazing new features, if a game resembles another game or is just a down right good old fashioned shooter with the works then it is counted as repetitive and boring to reviewers.

I liked how this game was not too over welming and stayed true to its roots, i know some people are complaining about the short campaign but to be honest i wouldn't want a long one on a vita system and the replayability is good enough to keep me interested.
The touch controls were also really well implemented. The only real issue i had was the end fight as i found it boring but still i loved the game.
