LittleBigPlanet Hub developer revealed!

Archive: 36 posts

Hello everyone!

I am sure this will come as a shock to most of you.. haha! Just kidding.

It is now official! Sumo Digital are developing LittleBigPlanet Hub.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK9SyKZunGo

I know everyone pretty much knew anyway, but now it has been confirmed!

What do you guys think about this news? Are you as surprised as I was?

Do you think LBP3 could still be in development by them as well?

No it doesn't surprise me that Sumo worked on hub. And I totally think they'll be the same group to make LBP for PS4. from what I know Sumo now handle anything LBP for the consoles. And Tarsier is in charge most of the handheld area now.

It really is pretty obvious that Sony will want a LBP for PS4. And as soon as possible to help sell the system. So there's no reason to guess they won't.

PS: It's also possible they'll make a LBPhub for PS4 instead of whatever else. And LBP3 will just be a DLC you can download into it. But who-knows.

LBP Hub isn't planned for PS4.

By the way, I think a company called Surface Digital is helping with some of the animation. Sumo currently have more than 160 employees (That isn't including those not on LinkedIn). If they need to outsource stuff like this then they must have a deadline that can't be too far away!

Hm... so I wonder if they're also making LBP3 or if this is all they were working on.

Or if there will even be an LBP3, or if Sony is going to push MM's new game instead...

I'm confused, why do they need a whole studio working on this LBP Hub if it's not a new game? Wouldn't they just need coders/developers to combine LBP1 and LBP2 together and put it on PSN?2013-09-11 00:03:00

That's what confuses me too... Hub doesn't seem like something that would take a whole lot of effort to put together (as a new game would). Hopefully they are also working on LBP3 and this is just a side thing.2013-09-11 00:23:00

Umm? you say that as if we know for sure anything LBP is officially planned for PS4. So unless you have some official news to share with us. Otherwise it's all just guess work. Which all my post was too.

I imagine that LBP Hub will probably have lots of updates and DLC. It could be a game that they continually build on - kind of like what Minecraft does with its big updates. Hopefully some of the content in LBP Hub is free.

I doubt it. It's a repackaging of the first games to appeal to people who haven't played them yet in order to goad them to buy outfits and stuff, and anyone who hasn't at least considered this as a possibility is a Tonkus Tim.

Wish it wasn't true, though.

LBP hub probably isn't just a combine of the Littlebigplanet 1 & 2 games. It might have lots of graphic improvements, or other things too.
And about that, as we have heard, it's possibly free. Only the two games and new 16 levels. But some imagine there are free DLCs too.

And yeah. But there should be a better reason for it. It can't be free, for free!

Seems to me LBP3 as a name is pretty much cancelled. The whole purpose of LBP Hub is to combine the LBP platform games so you have everything available in one, well, hub. Bringing out a separate LBP3 would go against that philosophy. But on the other hand, this could mean there is a lot of new DLC coming that's not just costumes. 2013-09-11 10:00:00

I have been told that LBP Hub is only planned for PS3.

Do you remember when that guy put it on his site? http://www.jkstudios.tv/ The site was then down for a couple of weeks, along with his twitter account.

He said it was for Sumo Digital/Surface Digital. Surface Digital would only be doing it if it was outsourced to them by Sumo and this James guy would have only got the job through it being further outsourced/managed by Surface.

Seems logical to me.

I'm hoping they add some features from LBPVita. Memoriser, 'Ghosting' materials and objects, improved notes and some more music. Looking forward to the hub though!2013-09-11 16:40:00

Well It's company standard not to talk about or admit to future projects. There's been a handful of times before where LBPteams say they have nothing planned for later but then just a few months later showoff what they been working on.

Anyways. a LBPhub for PS4 after sometime later-on just seems logical to me. But I don't actually expect anything one way or the other. Just as long we get something main-LBP for PS4 that'll be good enough.

Here's probably what happened:
---LBP3 was in development for the PS3.
---Eventually it was switched over to the PS4 instead (due to PS3 technical limitations )
---LBP hub is a way to manage things (transferring costumes and levels?) between the PS3 and PS4 (because the PS4 can't play PS3 games easily)
---LBP3 will probably be announced/ released after media molecule's new PS4 game (to avoid confusion)

It's just a prediction

I hope nothing(except MAYBE costumes) will be transferable from LBP1/2/HUB to LBP3. It's time the series got a fresh start and didn't have backwards compatibility to hold it back. I bet LBP2's graphics/animation style/physics would've been much different if it wasn't compatible with LBP1's levels.(not saying that was a bad choice)

Major difference is not always good. If they started Littlebigplanet 2 with less similarities, it would confuse most of us. The great example is Littlebigplanet Karting. It's much harder to create because the creating style isn't the same as the LBPs which we play. And if even someone is an expert in the creating of LBP karting, he obviously won't get along well with the platformer type soon. Not just because it's 3D.

Generally, i think it's a great choice. And i hope the next series of LBP won't be much different. That'd be oppressive for some.

I agree to an extent. LBP Karting is a whole different genre from LBP2 so that's why everything was so foreign. LBP3 can be different yet still a platformer at heart, while feeling familiar as well. I just don't want it to feel TOO familiar.

*Level. It's been stated a few times that LBP Hub will contain a level to collect goodies in. So can't see that taking up much of the development time unless the goodies are really complex and crazy.

I've grown accustomed to LBP2's gameplay and level creation tools. So any future LBP title must only ADD things, not change things. It'd alienate a lot of players if they change things they're already accustomed to, but everyone loves new features and the ability to choose to use them or not. LBP3 could add a 3D modeling tool, but still allow the ability to create in 2.5D if you want.2013-09-13 03:56:00

There 16 new levels and someone needs to do them... hard way (aka professional way ). 16 level is like 4-3 level DLC packs with levels + Sumo was also busy with cross controller pack. Not to mention i bet they doing UI changes or even whole revamp of main menu UI as with LBP.me exclusive (because they didn't want to spend time implementing them in game) features and those new chalanges LBP2 UI is heavely outdated. Not to mention News system which is become to be used frequently by StevenI is terrible design, it gives you annoying message box of front of your face and if you want to view news again you need to change firlting of recent activities... yes recent activities very self explanatory So i hope they not stupid to not fix that

Yeah, reading the news after the first time is a pain. A few other features could be easier to deal with too. Like lists.

New levels? The only mention of 16 levels I saw was making 16 levels from LBP1 and 2 available for free in the Hub. Those would just need some touching up at most. Or did I miss an announcement somewhere?

I agree that most of Sumo's work right now will be in rebuilding the pod user interface, to support free to play.

Ah you right

BUT! "A brand new level chock full of goodies to collect, exclusive to LittleBigPlanet HUB!"

You can see in LBP2 if you take out the DLC backgrounds there's 16 left from LBP 1 & 2.2013-09-14 11:15:00

Oh ... That's a bit disappointing. Perhaps they've been building an engine to make the levels and content compatible with the PS4?

Guys, you should have a look around LinkedIn every now and again to get an idea of what is going on.

Just have a look at who is working at Sumo, how long they have been doing the job for and look for clues on their summaries. Lots of LBP related people, such as JackOfCourse doing level design for the company and people that have done art or sound for previous LBP games all moving over. Interesting to come up with your own theories, but to me it looks like more than just LBP Hub is being made there! A few profiles mention an AAA game they are developing for Sony, but the one I showed in the video suggests it is not referring to LBP hub.

It really not a secret that lot of LBP community is there and it really not suppricing (rather expected) that Sumo is working on this... and i don't need LinkedIn to know that ;] just observe LBP community

It's kind of saddening for me that this game disappeared and probably was cancelled. In my opinion, the release of this FTP version would have caused the community to increase in size, much more than it did with LBP3, giving the tools of the editor to potential great creators that wouldn't have even tried the game otherwise. I myself would have begun telling everyone I know that owns a PS3 to at least download HUB and give it a try, after all, it would have been free!
Maybe someday HUB will eventually return as a LBP3 limited digital release for both PS3 and PS4, kinda like DRIVECLUB PSPlus Edition, maybe it will never happen. Who knows...

Quite the mega bump.. If you wanted to ask, should have started a new thread in General Discussion or one of the Everything Else LBP forums.

Locking.
