Versus levels

Archive: 8 posts

Hey guys,

Just a bit curious to see what you all think. I'm keen on making some more versus levels, where you NEED 2 or more players to play a level. However, in my experience they don't tend to get anywhere near as many plays. I know that I like to play with friends, but I get the feeling this isn't the case across the whole community.

I guess I just wanted to see if everyone still played with friends, or if the trend has shifted to the few remaining lbp fans playing levels solo? It'd probably affect what kind of levels I make in the future if I knew that the versus side of lbp has lost it's potential.

If you're creating for recognition and fame, then I'd say you're creating for the wrong reason. You should create what you want, and be proud of what you make. If you and your friends have fun playing vs levels, then by all means make them. My 2 most played levels require 2 or more players.2013-09-10 03:25:00

I'm not after fame, I just feel that it's less worth my time if a level i've spent hours/days on gets 10 plays. I enjoy getting feedback and learning from other creators, and with versus levels i'm just not getting it. I'm unsure whether my levels aren't fun, or whether the community has just changed.

While I see what you mean, if you have a great idea, you should publish it anyway. Even if it only gets one play, that play can lead to something much larger. (Also, I rarely play online when I'm on multiplayer, with the exception of the vita edition.)2013-09-10 14:16:00

Yeah of course. I just tend to get distracted easily and never seem to get around to completing most of them. I was just seeing if I could find any extra motivation to actually finish a project. It doesn't help that I don't have much free time these days to create.

Trust me, if you have the time to sit down and look at LBPCentral, you should have time to create. You've checked it at least twice today.2013-09-10 23:54:00

Can I start off by saying I love your psn but I don't know why?

Nowadays with real life stuff, if there's none of my friends online, I'm gonna create. If someone is online, then yeah well go play a versus level. Quite a few people do, don't worry, if a move level can get lots of plays, a two-player level can. (Although personally I wouldn't really want to create a level like that because I'm a hermit and nobody would want to play test it with me all the time ) its really about having fun creating it. If you like making versus levels, go for it

Of my many unfinished projects, I have three that will be multiplayer. Though, for one of them I am working out some AI so that even one person could play, but mainly it is so less than four players will still have 3 spaceships to battle instead of one or two. If the AI is robust enough, I will make a one player version.

My latest main project though, is my Clue(do) board game level. I am not really making them for anyone but me. If other people like them, that's cool. But I am making something I want to have fun with.
