The Nintendo 2DS: The 3DS, without the 3D!

Archive: 24 posts

Have you're eyes always been hurt by the 3D effects? Have you always wanted them off on you're games? Then buy a Nintendo 2DS!

This isn't fake. It's very real. Basically this is a 3DS with no 3D effect and it doesn't fold. What are you're opinions on this? I honestly think that this is pointless, seeing that you can just turn off the 3D feature on the 3DS. But anyway, it will be released on October 12 alongside Pokemon X and Y for 129.99.

I don't want to be hater, but... wow, this is ridiculously dumb. xD
I was expecting a guy to pop up and do something stupid enough to indicate it's a parody, but I guess not.

XD But I guess it's cheaper, so everyone can enjoy the amazingness of Nintendo! You never know it if it's from Nintendo. Maybe it'll be a huge success!2013-08-28 22:46:00

Thought at first the idea of getting rid of the folding, and thus the portability, was dumb... but then I read a few comments that this was mostly for kids who might break or be unable to hold regular 3DSes, so I guess it's ok.2013-08-28 23:03:00

It's actually like $30 more expensive.

EDIT: Here's a funny picture I found on Reddit showing what it's first attachment could be:

Well since it's just a cheap version that you are suppose to buy for little kids. I don't see the problem. It's not like it's suppose to replace the normal 3DS. *mew2013-08-28 23:13:00

I'm sorry, but that argument... uhh.. It's for little kids? That thing looks too uncomfortable even for me to hold or carry... but whatever, to each his own.

It looks like something you'd see as a mock-up of a rumoured handheld in a magazine around 15 years ago.2013-08-29 00:39:00

I am just saying what I heard why they made it. It looks terrible obviously. But reason why the 2DS version was made from what I heard was it's for children who very young who also are not as delicate with devices yet, which was why they removed the hatch i guess. *mew

So just to be clear, this is a 3DS but they removed its main feature: 3D.

So basically an ugly, regular DS then?

The shape just seems so... wrong. The normal DS shape isn't exactly the peak of ergonomics either, but it makes up for it in portability. Now they've thrown that out of the window, they could at least have chosen a more rounded and volumous shape that better fits into a person's hands. Like the PSP.

Then again, this model is probably aimed exclusively at little kids. Cheaper, sturdier, and parents don't have to worry about eyestrain caused by the 3D effect.

Then, Nintendo 1D, featuring a single row of pixels and a Flatland-eque manner of rendering.
And then, Nintendo 0Ds, which... Actually, no. Please stop me.

Ahhh Nintendo is going to create some paradox versions of their DSs. No seriously, I can't possibly imagine who thought of this 2DS.2013-08-29 04:43:00

I don't see what the problem is. Everyone I've seen who owns a 3DS plays it in 2D anyway, it's a little cheaper than the original (at least where I am from) and 90% of the people I know who own 3DS never leave their home with it anyway and those who do actually carry them in bags. What can I say? It was not necessarily the smartest move to publish a new console, even though it's Christmas Season soon, so there's that, but nobody forces you to buy one over 3DS.

Heck, I might get one myself if it's not over 150?. I personally do not own a ton of cash and there are other things I really want, such as GTA V. There's no reason for anyone to be annoyed over 2DS, in conclusion. It's just another option in addition to the original 3DS. Having a choice is a good thing (besides, as far as I'm concerned every 3DS game is playable in 2D anyway). It's not as if it's going to replace the good "old" 3DS anyway.

You can't even fit that thing in a pocket, right?

...The only cool thing I could see coming from it, is if they make the panel covering the top part of the mono screen removable, and allow you to use it like a real tablet. Even then, I have my Nexus 7 for that...

I don't think fitting in a pocket matters much anymore, the tablets they're competing with now aren't really pocket sized either.2013-08-29 09:00:00

It's $130 in the US, so it will probably be 130 Pounds in UK.

Why are they making this? they need to make a cheaper Wii U, not a cheaper 3DS. which is already kinda cheap anyway. I can understand Side effects on small children, but nobody older then 8 will want a 3DS anyway. Most kids just play with there moms phone. (Not me, i have my own phone, which i got by accident XD) Also, if nintendo keeps making bad desicions, they will end up like SEGA and make PS and Xbox games, you know it will happen eventually :/
Also, MORE GAMES ON WII U NINTENDO, I KNOW I WAITED 7 YEARS FOR PIKMIN 3 AND THAT GAME WAS AWESOME, BUT STILL.

Thats great, but they need to update the Wii U so it doesnt depend on the gamepad so much, sell a Wii U without the gamepads, Sell gampads individually, AND PROFIT.

mmmhmmm, while we're at it, why not package a Vita without a back-screen, or a PS4 without it's touchpad?

The gamepad is a bsaic component of the Wii U. Games are supposed to be developed for it. It just can't be removed from the package.2013-09-03 13:21:00
