Save Colortopia!

Please check out this level, I've spent two years tweaking it. I know it comes with some inherent flaws, and I'd love for you to help me fix them. Regardless of whether or not it's the greatest thing you've ever seen, I think it's well worth the time it takes to complete. It comes with a story, and many challenges to keep you on your feet! Colortopia is a story mission about a quaint little town, Colortopia, that is very colorful and nothing short of breath taking. Your sack person happens upon this town. Upon finding the mayor, he informs you that the town is slowly being taken over by Overlord Bland, turning everything gray and dull. It's up to you to traverse his domain and overcome many obstacles and some puzzles to get to him and take him down!

Hi Bestbuds,

I've played your level today and want to give you my feedback! There are two things that I want to say: you've created a platformer with some fine ideas concerning the gameplay!^^ It has been fun to me!^^ And the thrilling music is fitting pretty good!^^ On the other hand your design! This is the point for me that could be improved a lot!^^ Because the design is responsable for the overall atmosphere!^^ I've tried to imagine how your level could have been if you would have packed your gameplay elements in an environment thats fitting to the thrilling music and the dangerous obstacles!^^ F.e. a gloomy dungeon with torches on the wall, scary noises, spiderwebs, knight's armors... or a space theme with a space ship, some planets or stars in the background, robots, alert lights...
Your ideas have a lot of potential, if you also create a surrounding with good design then your level could be a real higlight!^^ And then you will also get a heart from me!^^

Thank you very much for the feedback. I knew that issue would come up. I'm sure you noticed that the beginning part of the level in colortopia is in a league completely separate from the rest of the level. Originally I just had a level comprised of all of the challenges, one after another, and it was basically just a level full of concepts. Then I created a separate level with all the houses and dialogue and stuff. It sat there for months because I didn't know what to do, and eventually I combined the two levels and just tidied up the evil element of the game. I had a problem coming up with a believable castle surrounding without completely disassembling the concepts part of the level. Also, I wouldn't even know how to go about it. If you've ever got free time on your hands, I would love some help.2013-08-28 20:53:00

Well, I added a background to the level, and I had made torches to put around, but I ran out of space in the level. Apparently it can only handle so much awesomeness.2013-09-21 20:46:00

And now I've added torches! I also shortened one of the obstacles to both gain room and remove some annoyance. On top of that I made one other obstacle a tad bit easier.2013-09-24 06:16:00
