[TearawayCompetitonUS] Papercut Mountain

Summary: Iota needs help delivering messages, go to the hermits house on the top of the mountain. Use drums and fingers to get upand help him out. A short, easy, platforming level. Enjoy the view. An entry for the Tearaway Competiton. One Player only. Special thanks to Mnniska for being Swedish. Enjoy

So this is my entry for the Tearaway Competition, and I'd have to say Im quite happy with the product. The finger controls seem a lil slippery, but its the best I can do in the time span I have at the moment. See Im going to College in about 2 days, and trying to finish 5 levels ( 4 done, 1 more to go) in that amount of time is no easy task, I assure you.

When first coming up with my ideas and inspiration, I watched the Tearaway Trailers for hours. The 4 main points I got from those hours were:

1). Monsters - I did make the papercraft cyclops, but when making the level, it really interupted the peacful and pleasant feel of it. It interuptered the flow, So I scrapped the cyclops.

2). The wonderful Scenery - When thrust into the world of papercraft, everything is alive, everything is moving. Everything from the swaying of grass and trees to the movement of animals and birds. So I tried to encorporate something like that, by having all plants move gently through a breeze.

3). Drums - It seemed like drums were going to be a major tool in Tearaway. I wanted to somehow encorporate that, So I decided to do away with the typical jump pad. It turned out rather unique I suppose.

4). Fingers - By far the most impressive feature and the feature that stands out most in Tearaway, is the use of fingers in the world. This was a major challenge, and took a lot longer than I thought. The gameplay is rather repetitive as It is really just 'bouncing'. This is the way because I took out the monsters in the first slide. Because of this reptitiveness I decided to Cut alot of the level. makeing it alot shorter so it wouldnt drag on very much.

Anyways Please go check out Papercraft Mountain, and hopefully you'll love it. Good luck to all the other sackfolk entering in the competition.

Did I like this level? Yes. Did I love it? No. This level has a lot going for it: it looks very nice and the Tearaway inspired obstacles are pretty good on a whole, although it's limited to pretty much two things: the finger obstacle and the drums. The big issue I had with this level was the imprecise drums. It's never really clear how powerful the tap is, and I thought it wasn't reliable: sometimes I would give it a "stronger" tap and I wouldn't be propelled that far, other times I would be. It's a minor frustration that persists throughout the level, and fixing it would be a massive plus. Heck, since it's a sackbot, why not have a display above it that shows how powerful the tap was (or something like that)?

The finger obstacle is cool and I only thought it was very well implemented throughout the level, if occasionally awkward. One recommendation would have been to include a bit more variety, as it's pretty much just the two obstacles repeated and slightly rearranged the whole time. It's still fun and great looking level though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Overall the level was good, and if you sorted out the drums perhaps it would be great, maybe even a contender. It's certainly the most solid serious entry I've seen thus far, and it sets a good standard for other entries.

Esmerelda / Demonic Fleshtemple bonner stars.
