Off Track Error

Archive: 8 posts

Hello all,

In my current project, I have a section of the track that gets destroyed, forcing you down a new path. I made my own track ground for you to drive on, erased the track under it, and brought it up to follow the custom track for respawns. For some reason, when actually racing on it, during the part that gets destroyed (pre-destruction) I receive the off track message and it resets me off onto the alternate path. This only seems to be happening on the "destroyable" section.

Anybody have an idea why, or what I can do to fix this?

P.S. - The AI seems go to great lengths to avoid this section as if it's soaked in black plague even though I have the whole track ground covered in drivable pathfinders to show them it's OK. Even trying to force their way through a wall labelled with an obstacle pathfinder. I was thinking I could draw a path through the whole level as it's intended for it to be run and have the kart brain follow it for the AI - does this work?

If i understood well, you must add shortcut all along your track which will be destroyed, even if it's not a shortcut.2013-08-21 19:45:00

It's the main track that has a section that gets destroyed, with a branch that goes around it (which is blocked off before said destruction). The AI drives fine on the rest of the track, and the whole main track's actual "laid track" was painted with "erase track," not just the destroyable section, adding to my confusion on their behavior. Breadcrumbs drop off under it to the ground, as the track isn't there to catch it, unless there's a way to make them stay up on the ground I laid for it. Can you adjust the height of breadcrumbs? You could in MNR, but haven't found how in LBPK.

Go to the breadcrumb editor, hit Square, select a breadcrumb path, then make a breadcrumb rise or fall with R2 or L2, using L1 or R1 to change which breadcrumb you're editing.

Thanks for the help, putting the breadcrumbs over the path solved the error problems. Still seems odd to me that it'd be resetting you over a main path like that. Not even a "wall" of reset, but sporadically in the section. Odd.2013-08-22 17:20:00

Just as an idea, (and I'll admit, im new to karting, but learning), what if you make a copy of your level, set it to Arena, and manually reposition the checkpoints. Then use checkpoint gates and draw the race path. This way as its a big arena, the car cant go out of bounds.2013-08-28 13:23:00

I don't think you can draw any roads in an arena level. Anyway, if you want to let racers go off the roads there's a global setting for that.2013-08-28 15:45:00

That's a good way to do it, especially for particularly complicated paths. I didn't want to do it for me, because I didn't think the checkpoints where "aesthetically in tune" with my idea for my track. Also, as a race, I want them to be able to go out of bounds, so that there aren't unwarranted corner cutting.
