Community Spotlight Episode 118

Welcome one and all to the latest Episode of the Spotlight featuring yet more witty, wonderful and woolly, wobbly, erm...warm-hearted...? (bother alliteration!) levels for your playing pleasure.

We have a few notices too. Some good news and some bad. The good news is that WESFUN will be taking a break from spotlighti...ooops that’s the bad news! Yes, WES is off to school in September and needs to focus on his studies. So best of luck to him with that and a big thank you for everything he’s done and for all the laughs. The good news is that fireblitz95 will be moving over to help out on the PS3 and Vita spotlights in his place.

There is no Karting Spotlight this Episode. Not due to any untoward squirrel activity for once but sadly due to the very low number of tracks posted in the Showcase. Fingers crossed that things pick up there in future and that we will have another Karting Spotlight for you next time.

Finally, we're experimenting with ways of making it easier for those reading the Spotlight on the Front Page to access the Vita spotlight. See the link below and let us know if it works/helps! If it does work we may move the link to a more prominent position.

Without further ado, on with the Spotlight:

http://i7.lbp.me/img/bl/7b773c81b06cdfccfcb55705cf764575191289af.pngSingul ar Duality (LBPC11)AratiatiaWho needs real friends? Your co-op drone can follow you, change layers, activate switches, avoid danger and help you complete the level with just the occasional bit of teamwork. One (1) player only, HOLD ALL SHOULDER BUTTONS TO RESPAWN. Massive thanks to RtooDee2 and peoriaspitfire AND my beautiful, patient wife : )
From start to finish, you won't find a cleaner level than Singular Duality. The second I entered the level, I couldn't move. I just stood still and marvel at the architecture of this facility. The wide range of details, to me, was staggering. Appearance aside, this level is pure genius. The gameplay consists of you and your helpful helper who is a rolling sphere. It will assist you in reaching those high places as well as opening passages and even using some sort of weird telekinetic powers to move platforms. The assistance goes both ways though, as you'll have to do the same for it. An amazing level the deserves every bit of the accolades it's been receiving lately. If you haven't already, play this level!I'm reminded of that song 'Me and My Shadow' after getting to the end of this. Your tubby companion rolls happily along just waiting to be helpful. And helpful they are, never complaining as you throw them around to traverse the environment, jumping on top of them to climb to higher places or to weigh down a button. The challenges start out straight forward but become more elaborate at a nice pace and stay interesting through out, all the while your companions AI navigates with out a misstep to the end.As bio said, this is one of those levels where the moment you drop into it you find yourself going “Oooh, this looks cool!” and you won’t be disappointed. Not only does it look wonderful with all those sleek lines but the AI works perfectly. You and your new friend will be able to work seamlessly together to navigate a series of increasingly tricky obstacles. And don’t worry, it’s fun to play as well as being impressive! You can tell the amount of thought that’s gone into getting the logic and the feel of the level right. I particularly liked the way that the drone and the player die and/or spawn together – it just seemed so fitting! Kudos (sorry l-i-m-i!) to Aratiatia for producing such an accomplished entry and for making the LBPC11 judges' task a relatively easy one ; )

http://ib.lbp.me/img/bl/7ab4bca630865f2606491ef67d6060e5c9e34601.pngSnail Trailstryder12Prepare your running shoes because Sackboy has been challenged again--this time to a race through the forest by an unlikely opponent. Feel free to take your time making your way to the starting line, but at the word Go! run like there's no tomorrow! Special thanks to Mastablastya for yet another amazing set of music sequencers and to AWSOME_CHaZ33 for thoroughly testing every square inch of the level. Feedback appreciated as always and hope you enjoy!

This level made me smile...A LOT! I loved it, and I must have played it a dozen or more times. You start your platforming journey and run across a giant snail. He tells you to meet him in the middle of the forest for a race and then he takes off. This part made me laugh so hard. The snail burns rubber and is gone man! So you set out to meet this fellow and show him who's boss. The platforming is a blast and has a great variety of obstacles to overcome and a load of secrets to find. The level is just chock full of charm and I know you will love it as much as I do. I don’t know, sometimes levels just have a charm about them that it’s hard to put your finger on. If pressed though, I’d say this level owes a lot to the character of Mr Snail. He challenges you to a race of all things. Hmmph, you think, how difficult can it be to beat a snail; they’re bywords for slowness after all! This one is an exception, though. He streaks off, leaving you for dead and with a lot of platforming to do to catch up with him! After taunting you occasionally from the side-lines as you weave your way through some nicely designed obstacles, he at last goes head to head with you in a final dash for the scoreboard. It’s funny, looks great and has some beautifully crafted platforming. What more can you ask from a level? It's just a shame that no one is going to be impressed if you boast about trying to put a bumptious snail in his place...unless they've met him, that is!I don't care what anyone says, I will one day beat that blasted snail in a race o.O ok ok I blame my sackboy. Stryder has once again brought us a fun adventure thru the kingdom of platforming. This one is chalked full of cute-ness, fun storyline, and uber-fantastic platforming. I love this style and can't wait til the day I will overcome Mr. Snail at the end without him ..(insert spoiler alert here)... XD So if anyone has not yet given Mr. Snail (insert bad pun here) a run for his money, do it so and do it now, just do it faster then my little sackbuddy

http://i8.lbp.me/img/bl/a18fa231e2858657736d165c0cc8646e0b645d80.png[MOVIE] The Last Hero IIBlackbeltnick95[SINGLE-PLAYER RECOMMENDED] The Last Hero II is the epic sequel to The Last Hero which has us follow the journey of Omega Man. Omega Man has been missing for one month and has been declared dead after sacrificing himself to save the entire planet. In the shadows of Symbol City lurks an evil and powerful being bent on a path of destruction and control. Who will protect the city if Omega Man is gone? Watch the epic film and find out! ----- [Length: 48m 10s]

Man o Man has blackbeltnick really taken his idea of the Last Hero and amped up the story, the action, and comical relief. Not too often does a well captivating LBP movie come along that woo's me enough to sit thru the entire 48 minutes. Yes, it's a total of 48 minutes, but please don't look at the number of minutes the movie occupies but the number of quality minutes within the level and that equates to exactly 46.74 From the icey arctic all the way to the captivating thriller of an ending, this movie will surely keep you in awe from beginning to end. Fun thing to do is try to figure out who is playing which parts, what an amazing cast of voice actors blackbelt has recruited for the sequel. Kudos to you Blackbelt It’s a classic scenario. Clean cut superhero (with nice hair) returns from the dead in a brave attempt to save the day. Will he succeed or will the forces of evil prevail? A 48 minute film in LBP is a huge undertaking but Blackbeltnick95 orchestrates it beautifully and draws you into the story and the world of Omega Man. There are moments both of drama and humour, some cool flying scenes and great special effects and it’s all held together by the stellar voice acting and smooth camera work. So who is the evil mastermind behind all the chaos in Symbol city, who on earth is the Holiday Bandit and does Omega Man have the strength to win through? Dim the lights, grab some popcorn and find out in this epic movie.

Music by NK827 .Thanks to jujupon for some wonderful engouragement and help *Ai isnt completely industructable so prepare for replays*
Oh man. I really enjoyed this level. Just mah kind of levelz! Incredible theme and extraordinary level design, everything just melted into one big jar of awesomesauce! The many comments from your A.I. friend just cracked me up. The visuals just blew me away, I loved the purple cave theme. The gameplay varied quite a lot and the A.I. was quite well implemented. I definietly hope that many others will enjoy this level as much as I did. Absolutely a hearted level! Awesome level. Period. Well you've gone and done it now sackthing. In your greed for more score bubbles, you've fallen for a nasty trap and find yourself at the bottom of a very, very deep hole. But fear not, for you have found a new friend down here. The wise cracking, 105 year old Kynin also fell for the same trap and you will have to aid each other if you're to make it out of this abyss. Now, I love the gameplay here. I love the puzzles, which some can be quite vexing, and I love the atmosphere of this level, but what really got me was the one liners that Kynin kept throwing out. This dude kept cracking me up with such gems as, "You'll have to throw me over the cork because I'm corkophobic" and when I miscalculated a jump, "what, you suck that much?" Oh, and then there was this one, "Hurry up, we don't have forever your majesty!" Ha! I love this guy. Play it.Blimey, Bio, you’ve stolen all the best lines from the level! Not that I got to see the one about sucking, of course *cough* But Bio is right, the star of the show is Kynin. His sarcastic commentary will keep a grin on your face as you work your way through the clever puzzle gameplay. I love the way he cracks up in the second half of the level and then conveniently airbrushes that out as you reach the scoreboard. There, I think that between us, Bio and I have probably included enough spoilers to have zecros4 tearing his hair out. You should definitely play the level for yourselves though to experience it all at first hand, to pit your wits against the different puzzles and to feel the wonderful atmosphere in these dimly lit, purple glowing caves. Zecros4 is certainly carving out a unique niche for himself with these slightly dark and quirkily humorous puzzle levels and I very much look forward to what he does next.

http://i0.lbp.me/img/bl/1a0d96c484cbd83d4a7df7b9eb2e2fee62e561af.pngEl Guero's Coming Out PlatformerElguerogiganteOh there comes a time in every platform's life that it must be true to itself and do what they were created to do. You must help these platforms come out and shine like the fabulous obstacles they are! Featuring butchered versions of songs by Riverside (Before) and Ghost (Year Zero)
El Guero is back with another of his ingenious button activation platformers! The concept is simple enough: press the right buttons in the right order at the right time and platforms, sponges and minecarts (!) will magically appear out of the background and help you get to the next stage. Note the “right” bit though. There lies the rub. It’s not so easy to pull it off. It starts gently enough but soon you’ll find that you’ve run out of time, or that the buttons need to be pressed in a different order than you first thought…or that you’ve fallen apart and become a mess of fingers and thumbs! The gameplay is clever, clever stuff and beautifully designed. It will test both your grey cells and your button pressing agility. Levels like this make such a refreshing change. If you like a challenge and a workout with your controller, this is the level for you.A level like this is a tricky one to talk about, it has a high level of challenge so it may not be everyone's labelled mug of hot chocolate, but what it does, it does well. The design is clear and well laid out obstacles and hazards dotted throughout, so each missed jump or death can only be blamed on your own ineptitude. Something I can have a lot of when fast reactions are required. Respawns are placed well so there is never a real level of frustration having to replay sections though. The platforming is a fresh take on some straight forward concepts, making it worth while to give it a go.

Whoa! Another level where I just stood there and went, "Whut?" Man! This level is gorgeous. I loved the combination of materials used here and I have always liked the way P-I-M-P-I is able to seamlessly blend technology with a sort of primitive setting. Very cool. Speaking of cool. Wow. The gameplay is seriously cool and you'll have a blast traversing this wooden menagerie of clever obstacles and contraptions. You may singe your stuffing a time or two but you'll be smiling when you do it. Don't delay, play today.Ok… so let's just run down the check list. Great looking level? Check. The mixture of natural materials and technology is intelligently done, with nothing being over used and moving elements sitting well within the environment. Challenging gameplay? Check. You will be kept on your toes throughout as you discover new obstacles and learn how to get safely past. Great Music and effects? Check. *looks over list* Hmmm… seems like everything is in order for a glowing review. Oh… errr… I seem to have run out of room. So I should end with just recommending that you get to playing!

http://i6.api.vita.lbp.me/img/bl/ea6352afa3fc38718165d8fca71283bf594b20bf.pngStar Calibre - Interceptor 1 playerlordwarbladeTake control the new Mk1 Interceptor in a war against a race of cyborg invaders in this 1 Player vertical shooter. Play for the highscore on the leaderboard or just for fun while unlocking new enhancements for replayability.

lordwarblade is on a streak with yet another spotlight, deservedly so! This time with this fantastic shoot 'em up. You will be immediately be in awe of the fantastic visuals with vivid colours and a dark backdrop making the gameplay feel smooth and fun as the colours make it very clear. What of the key features of this level which makes it unique from other shoot 'em up levels currently on lbp is that lordwarblade decided to have the game be played in portrait view. By doing this it changes the whole dynamic of the game as you have more time to shoot the enemies and the whole experience feel less cramped. Two spotlights, two levels spotlighted for lordwarblade and if you've played either of them you'll know why. The crispest of visuals combine with the most solid gameplay to create a wonderful experience outside of that you'd expect. So what makes this stand out from his Team Picked (and spotlighted) last level? How about a huge range of customisation from the difficulty to the speed of your craft? How about the fact we're going up and down? And if that's still not enough, know that it's got that clean lordwarblade polish we've come to expect. Simply superb.

http://i3.api.vita.lbp.me/img/bl/6a341672d392eb27efc0225ab4a8382002b49ab4.pngThunde rfulyoghurt2000Explore my latest creation; Thunderful. This is a puzzle/platformer-level with 8 hidden secrets throughout the level. Can you find 'em all?

Its always great to play a yoghurt2000 level you know exactly what you are going to get, amazing gameplay with great visuals and he hasn't failed to disappoint. This time yoghurt2000 has made some of his very best stuff with fantastic flowing gameplay which seamlessly transition in between each other. To other stuff like clever little puzzles all wrapped together in a nice clean design. As well as that yoghurt has hidden various secrets around the level that will have you coming back to find them all!
Thunderful may be a mouthful to say, but it's closer to wonderful in it's fantastic gameplay and simple visuals. It has a chaotic, junk-yard vibe that fits perfectly with the way you'll be playing - not only taking on obsttacles once, but having to go back and forth activating switches to unlock new ways past them. It may seem confusing, but it's far from it and flows with an air of elegance. A lovely level from yoghurt2000 well worth the play and subsequent heart you'll give it!

http://ib.api.vita.lbp.me/img/bl/61b9942abae74cc689ea2f83fa14eefa98196ab1.pngThe Book of DreamsTJ2010-OLYMPICSThe Fairy Tales you once loved have now come to life, warping you into the very story book itself! To make things worse, a crazy witch has been wrecking havoc in this land of enchantment! Can you become the hero this world has been looking for? The only way to find out is to enter The Book of Dreams.

The Book of Dreams gives exactly what it says - a level of such quality that most of us have only ever dreamt of playing it. With a wonderful story capable of an Oscar, cut scenes galore and innovative gameplay all combined into a unique 'fairy-tale theme' this is a level that truly surpasses words and has to be played to be really enjoyed! Expect to meet some fairy-tale characters on the way, and some not-so-nice villains. Safe to say we on the spotlight team cant wait for the conclusion
Book of Dreams is not like most levels in lbpvita, and that is a good thing. It's rare to find a level that has such original ideas and can pull them off like this. Can you be the hero the world has been looking for? Only one way to find out. Prepare to get transported into the story book and face the evil witch, all the while trying to make your way out. Beautifully realized, it's rare to find a level this polished. This is a unique experience unlike anything on the community moon.

Just came back home from vacation. Congrats to all of the spotlighted LBP2 and LBPV levels. It's a shame that there's no LBPK levels spotlighted, but at least I'll be able to catch up with all the spotlighted LBPK I have been missing for a few months as soon as my PS3 is fixed. Looking forward to another episode.2013-08-20 04:49:00

The good news is that fireblitz95 will be moving over to help out on the PS3 and Vita spotlights in his place.

Why am I just now replying to this? Anyways, I'm very eager to help everyone out. Also, great job to everyone who was Spotlighted and/or got an Honorable Mention.
