Create Mode Freezing

Archive: 13 posts

Hey guys,

Just had an incredibly frustrating problem while attempting a few new ideas. Basically, what's happening is that create mode seems to be completely freezing, causing me to have to restart the game and lose all unsaved progress. It seems to happen when opening/closing microchips regularly, and was wondering if anybody else was having this problem? Or could it be a problem with my disc?

I know I can get around it by saving regularly, but I tend to be a forgetful person, especially when I get really into creating something cool, and if it's my disc I'd probably go out and buy a new copy of the game to spare controllers being thrown at things in frustration.

I know there's one bug that's been hunting LBP2 for awhile, and that's the slice crash (basically the game crashes randomly when you try to slice a material) I've never encountered any issues with microchips.

A few questions:
What PS3 model do you have?
Which version of the game do you have? (digital or physical)
What's inside that chip?

I have an original 160GB slim PS3 with a physical copy of the game. As for the microchip, it varies what's in it, but all the ones it's happened for have about 5-10 components on it at most. The most recent had a tag sensor hooked into a counter, a material and gravity tweaker, and I think 2 tag sensors wired into an and gate to reset the counter. (I can't remember exactly as obviously the game crashed and I have no way of checking!) But it's something like that. I have other levels with INSANE amounts on a chip and it's never done it before, which is why this surprises me.

That is really weird. Have you tried recreating the microchip from scratch? I don't know if it would do anything but it might be worth a shot. Otherwise I would place my bets on the disc if it crashes on most microchips.2013-08-16 23:27:00

Well for a way to save frequently without forgetting, set up a timer to 5 minutes and create a really annoying noise so you know its time to save. Im not really sure how you would fix the problem any other ways beside a new disc but this might be helpful.2013-08-17 00:42:00

Not a bad shout, although I may end up going insane after a while.... Does sound like it may be my disc if nobody's come across it before. I think I'll plough on with what I've got as it doesn't happen all too often, but if it happens again and I lose a lot of work I may have to buy a new disc....and probably a controller... and maybe some paint for the wall.....

I would try getting a new disc, using it for a few days and if you dont freeze as much or at all keep it. But if you countinue to freeze then just return it and you might have to do something with your PS3

Before you spend your money, can you confirm the condition in which the freezing occurs? Like does it occur only when rewinding? And whats your thermometer level at when this happens? I usually get freezes during great complexity or when the thermos high and theres complex emitting or rewinding.

Also back up your data. You can do this from your pod by pressing start and scrolling towards the bottom. You can back up your profile. This will save all of your LBP2 data in case the worst happens. Save this file to an external media just in case. I have had a case where I lost all my LBP2 data and trust me, its not fun starting over. So just in case

Yeah I back up my data regularly since my first PS3 got YLOD and I lost EVERYTHING. As for the thermometer it doesn't seem to matter, I have had it happen when it's very full which I understand, but the one I had the other day (which made me write this post) the thermometer hadn't even risen out of the bubble at the bottom, I'd literally just started a new level about an hour before it froze. And it's not when rewinding, it's when I open up a microchip, the noise plays but the microchip never opens and the game is stuck frozen from there. I'm not sure if I'm opening and closing microchips too fast/regularly (I often rapidly switch between microchips as I'm disorganised like that) and this constant switching causes the problem, or if it's just a completely random error that I have no control over.

From what I've read the game simply isn't stable after the last few patches. It's unlikely your disk is the problem, although you could try to reinstall if you don't mind the 3 GB+ in patches you'd eventually have to go through.2013-08-17 18:43:00

Hmmm thats interesting. I am using the digital version though. I am kinda of shocked to hear this. I do agree with Ayneh that the physical disk probably isnt the problem, unless if it has tons of scratches could possibly institute such behavior.

I recommend getting the digital version. I have experienced far less issues with it. And I dont think you will want to trade in the game anytime soon. You could trade your disk and get some pocket dollars as well.
