http://i43.tinypic.com/1z5i4a8.pngThe Tale of the Mysterious IdolCoxy224Two archaeologists travel to Coru-Coru to reconcile the formerly peaceful island. In order to do so, they must uncover the secrets of the isle and the use of the mysterious idol.

Welcome to the latest Coxy224 level!! This one has been in the works for a long time (6 months, maybe 1 month of solid create) and now it’s finally ready for you gals and guys to play!!

What is it?
It’s a platformer with one of the worst stories ever, but I loved every second of making it! It’s a mix-match of ideas I’d had, each of which could have had their own level, but I’ve put it all together in one uber level for you Sacks

In terms of what it is, think Geosautus’ Tale of the Mysterious Ruby meets Donkey Kong Country. With a boss.

Split over 3 distinct sections with their own unique playing styles. Dragging in the first section, temporary light in the second and finishing up with ‘tap-barrels’ in the finale. Oh and then there’s this epic BOSS FIGHT

How about a couple pictures?

Any cool facts?
No, but there’s some useless ones:
- This level is inspired from my choice of university course – Archaeology
- You can actually win all of the items I’ve used in each section AND the boss, but they’re very well hidden
- There’s a couple cool additions most won’t even notice – there’s a way to activate the radio in the Jeep section for example!

Big thanks?
@Wouter1998 (http://vita.lbp.me/u/Woutery) gets the biggest thanks for playtesting, providing music and writing a track just for this level!! Give it up and check out his levels

I'll confess I was disappointed this wasn't a platformer, your PSP platforming levels were fun.
This level is dedicated to fullofwin

Haha maybe I should put the actual title to link to the level, since you are on the thread already, probably don't need to find it haha!

I guess this should be double dedicated to you then! Hope it lives up to your standards

Will review soon as I still need a few more screencaps, but in the meantime let's play "Where's Snake?"

Can you guess where Solid Snake is hiding?

Nope, here's a hint.
There was a bug where you could hide under the earth, between the flowers and the green rock.

Coxy forgot to make it physical again. :B

I know. Thought it'd be fun to point out that one and all the other bugs I found. Speaking of which:

That Review Thing That I Mentioned a While Ago

While the short and simple review scheme is easier to do, I decided to do things differently and provide some mishaps I had during my playthrough, along with some screencaps to help paint a better picture of my experience with the level.

To begin, the cinematic intro was a bit lacking, but then again I'm more of a gameplay type of a guy, so on to the first segment of the level.

The first few minutes I encountered that bug that was already noted a few posts up, so naturally I went as Solid Snake for this entire mission. I mean why not? Platforming is one of Coxy's many strong points, so I may as well go as the guy who can face any challenge (that and I was too lazy to remove it). Past the waterfall and into the river, I found a top secret room.

I have no idea how I managed to get here.

After killing myself backtracking a bit and getting rid of that idol, I encountered the very dim-lighted caves/underground/place. Very fun place, and quite amazing to see all the work put into it. I even got to relive a classic Donkey Kong style segment!

Finally, after what seemed like forever, I made it out of that hectic place and into fresh air agai-

http://imageshack.us/a/img822/8727/k6ge.jpg

Wait, wasn't I here before? How did I fall off the level again? Eh, whatever: where's Snake now?

Up here!
"Backtrack" again, and I'm met with a bridge. Wasn't hard to figure out, really. I mean, the instructions there. Really.

Who am I kidding? I'm no rocket scientist! I can't decipher this Da Vinci code!

http://imageshack.us/a/img401/5228/z4x4.jpgI'm going to ram this bridge until it learns to obey its master!Yes, I actually brought the bridge down by just ramming it with the Jeep thing.
After the bridge was the near end of the level. A very "hot" and "I'll-burn-you-alive" boss battle later, and I am victorious, receiving minor scrapes and carpal tunnel.

TL;DR

Music: 8
Design: 10
Gameplay: 10
Story: 7
Overall: 8.8/10

A very good example of how good quality platforming is done.
