LittleBigPlanet Documentary (Thoughts?)

Archive: 5 posts

Hey-o sackfolks!

This idea was in my head ever since LittleBigPlanet 2 came out, and I really wanted to pull this off a long time ago but the project was too much to handle. What would you think of having a LittleBigPlanet Documentary? It could be fan-made or officially made showcasing the history of LittleBigPlanet and even interviews inside the companies behind the franchise. You can even have gameplay footage and real life footage mixed together and showcasing the community as well. The community can have a say on their thoughts about LittleBigPlanet and how they ended up becoming who they are in the LBP-verse.

You can even have a sweet narrator and show exclusive footage from the making of LittleBigPlanet and the development behind it. Even the fansites should have a fancy spotlight in the documentary and how they are brought these amazing fansites to life and how it connects to them. You can even interview the spotlight crews, behind the scenes of Team Picking and Community Managers, and how this whole play create share franchise stands out more than any other.

There are so many ideas you can add to this project, but most importantly, how many of you would like to see it come to life? Maybe start a petition so Sony can get a crew at creating it? Maybe been do the stunt of having the community create it together?

It's not a question of who wants to see happen, such a documentary can be appreciated by both fans and outsiders. The problem is that we're talking about a financial investment (big one) and a dedicated crew that is willing to travel and spend a lot of time in different locations. I'm sure there will be an official documentary made in the future, if LBP will continue to improve (as in LBP3) but the scope might never be as big as you mention, simply because it would be too much of a hassle to travel that much for interviews and so on.

I should mention, a documentary is different from a coverage or a report. A 20 minute video about something cannot be called a documentary, at least that's what I've been thought in Film school.

You could do it on the cheap by making a list of people in the community, get them to tell their story(maybe nudge them for more or have certain questions ready if needed) and record video of their creations(past and present) to put with the voiceover. That way you wouldn't have to involve an external group, it'd just be all fan made and no money involved unless someone needs to buy a mic or video editing software.2013-08-16 17:02:00

I think a non-professional fan-made documentary project will suit. No need to pay people, they can just volunteer if they want to appear or help out. There are tons of people with neat software and it will never hurt to ask the official LBP people if they want to be in it.

I was mostly referring to an official documentary, that involves real interviews with the community and the developers at MM. But yeah, if it were fan-made, there are a lot of ways to cut it, and make it without spending money.
