Counter Linking System

Archive: 2 posts

If you aren't very good at logic, then you might not get what I'm about to explain, so just make sure to have a general understanding of logic before you try to understand the level

First off, just a fact about logic that most people don't know
The fastest input/output that something can give or receive without thinking it is a constant flow, is 15tps (ticks per second) and this is useful for rendering repeaters (not gate in itself) because it is pretty much the limit (but I'll soon show you how to "override" this problem)

First off I'll show you my override, but be careful because the quicker the tick speed the higher the thermo (on one of my guns, I tried this and it took up 3 bars of thermo until reducing it )

Now to make this modular, you're on your own, because it is a process that took me a whole week, and I'm not making a tutorial that long

1) you need to take out a counter set to your counter "link" which will be one piece of the logic
2) have a counter inversion unit (a direction reversal chunk connected to a counter that is inverted and filled)
3) set them both to the same cap limit, and know that the limit you set is how much the counter will take to refill over hundreds of links so 5 is a good preferred number (it would take 1/3 of a second to refill because that is how quick it is to refill proportional to a repeater's speed)
4) place an and gate to a positive input to a combiner, and just leave the negative slot alone, and connect the combiner to the blank counter, and also connect it to the input of the direction reversal chunk, and you have a basic link

now you are done no not really, but you're getting there

now to make the link
1) connect your positive input into your and gate and put the other input just as a not gate (for the first link only) and then connect the and gate into a second and gate which will have a counter attached to it, which will act as a link piece
2) in that second and gate, put your default counter as an input, and as your second input put your first and gate into it
3) connect that secondary and gate into a counter set to 2, and keep that for later
4) copy the original link and place it to the right of the original (for easy access)
5) take out the counter set to 2 and connect it to where the original not gate input was, then just repeat that to make more links
6) once you are done with that, take out all of your default counter inputs, and connect them to an and gate, and take all of the inverted counters and put them up to an or gate
7) last and most tedious task, just connect all of your positive inputs with a trigger, and put all of your refills to a trigger as well, then you should be done

(what this does, is it doesn't speed up the tick, but allows that tick to hold more value, and trigger more counters, but this also makes it a one way street, because speeding up 2 ways basically just makes a laggy counter that has a value of 5, but it can be used to make fast refills over hundreds of counter values, and i bet you are wondering what your and, and or gates that have all of those inputs do, and basically the and gate detects if the value is 100% and the or gate detects if the value of any of your counters is one or above)

Leave feedback if this helped you, and be sure to correct me if I made any mistakes, it is a big subject, I wouldn't be surprised

Thanks for this. I foresee this helping me greatly in one of my upcoming levels.

Edit: Any chance for pics?
