You didn't have the slightest decency of at least posting a link!? Just kidding; I'm very welling to go out and fetch a link and I'll even post it for the rest of the community so that you and the rest of us have one less worry!

Hey there Sackpeople! I have a small pet peeve which I feel like sharing. Being as you hopped in to this thread, I figure you're the perfect person to talk to about it!

So, a little while ago, an update to LBP.me caused some issues with LBPCentral's handy-dandy info-scraper (No, I have no idea what that is either. As far as I'm concerned, it's simply magic!) which caused the level showcase threads to become rather dull, and feel rather sorry for themselves. Whereas we previously had awesome-looking threads, which showed off our flashy creations with pizazz and flair, we now have... well, let's just say... something else.

We still live in the hope that this little hiccup won't last too long, and we'll have our all singing all dancing forum magic back once again, but in the meantime, these sorry-looking threads are really getting some of us down.

If you're not exactly nifty with BBcode (beyond making some text look a little more leany than it was before... and maybe inserting the occasional SHOUT in for good measure) then you might be wondering how you can advertise your level to the best effect in your showcase threads. You know, put your best foot forward, and maybe get a few extra plays into the bargain.

Well, you have most certainly come to the right place.

Firstly, a little tutorial on some of the best things to include in a showcase thread, to get the most attention and admiration you possibly can from the get-go.

Level Showcase Essentials:
Or: How to get people to play your level

This topic has been discussed before, you can find proof of that here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=10692-How-to-Maximize-Level-Feedback). Nevertheless, it's worth including a few pointers:

Include a link to your level!

You wouldn't believe how many people leave out this most simple of guidelines. The website lbp.me is such a handy feature, enabling you to share your levels with minimal effort, and yet people still neglect to use it. Find your level on lbp.me (http://lbp.me/) (Searching for your name is a good place to start if you haven't used this site before) and put it in the thread!
.
Potential players read with their eyes, not their ears.

Say there, do you notice how I've put lots of eye-candy in this HUGE thread? I did that to draw you in a little. Not only that, but I've made some text bigger, bolder, or even put in a nifty little numbered list to make it all easier on the eyes. If you make your thread more interesting, with images for example, readers will be more inclined to keep reading, instead of yawning with boredom and moving on the next thread - possibly passing over your level
.
Sell it!

Placing a link and some nifty pictures is a great start, but what'll help even more is if you tell your potential player exactly what to expect in your creation. If that information is already in your level description, well that's spiffing! But if not, you might want to add a little more detail in the thread.(EG: "This is a full-bown RPG level, with collectable weapons, armour and other loot." or "Shoot-em-up with multiple power-ups, ships and level stages!")
.
Feedback for Feedback (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=7962-Feedback-For-Feedback)

If you don't understand what F4F is, take a look at the link above before you read any further. Essentially, offering F4F (If you are able to hold your end of the bargain) is a great way to get some more attention for your level. But as any seasoned LBPC veteran will tell you - the secret isn't to sit and wait for feedback to come to you, you need to go out and hunt for others who are using this system. Give them honest feedback (the kind you'd like to receive, we hope) and ask that they do the same in return. If they are using the F4F system, then it is good manners for them to do so.
.
Take a deep breath before replying to comments.

Did someone say something you're not too pleased about? Was that criticism a little too critical for your liking?

Okay. Take a deep breath.

Close your eyes.

Have you opened them yet? Right. Now reply, thank them for their honesty, take what you agree with, and discard the rest. You don't have to please everyone, but you should try to be grateful for honest, constructive criticism. They did make the effort to come back and tell you what they thought, after all!

TEMPLATE:

Or: Please, sir, can I have some more?

If you find it tricky to put all these things into a nice-looking thread, there's a template below which you can feel free to steal. I put it here for you, after all. Feel free to play about with it too, add more images, more description, etc. It's just a starting point.

Here's what it would look like if I used it for one of my own levels:

The Printz Diaries? Prologue: Cityscapes and Dreamscapes (http://lbp.me/v/29g4x1)

And so the Epic Saga begins. . . Printz is quietly minding his own business in his hometown when he is abducted by an old lady. She takes him away to a mysterious land. . . How will Printz get out of this predicament? Who knows . . .

----------

Nifty, isn't it?

Here's the code, just copy and paste it into your new thread, and replace the CAPITAL PROMPTS with whatever information the template asks for. ENJOY!!

Code:

YOUR BADGE'S IMAGE LINK HERELEVEL NAME HERE (LINK TO YOUR LEVEL ON LBP.ME HERE)

DESCRIPTION HERE

LINK TO A LEVEL IMAGE HERE
LINK TO A LEVEL IMAGE HERE
LINK TO A LEVEL IMAGE HERE

Getting Links for your Post:
Or: But, where do I find the source of this witchcraft?

Now we get down to it. So you like the template above, but don't know how to find the links you need? Read on, my friend, read on.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m489/psnrialrees/showcaselinks1.png

First and foremost, get yourself over to LBP.me (http://lbp.me/) so you can find your level.

If I'm not logged in to LBP.me, I generally find that it's easiest to find my profile by just putting my username into the search bar and hitting enter.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m489/psnrialrees/showcaselinks2.png

You'll then be able to get to your own profile page. It might be a good idea to bookmark your page for future use!

When you're done, click on "Published Levels" on the left hand side.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m489/psnrialrees/showcaselinks3.png

Find the level you want to post, click on it's link, and copy the address that shows up in your browser's url bar. Pop it into your little template above, or a text document for later use.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m489/psnrialrees/showcaselinks4.png

Now right-click on the badge for your level. In the options, you should see one that says something like "Copy Image URL". Click this, and paste it in the appropriate place in the template, or your text document.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m489/psnrialrees/showcaselinks5.png

Last but not least, you want to go to the images page for your level. Click on the "Photos" link on the left hand side, and select whatever images you want to show. Copy their urls, paste them in the template, and you have yourself a nice-looking thread!

You're All Done!

Congratulations, sackthing! You now have the makings of an eye-catching, player-drawing thread! Please do post it (in the appropriate forum (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase)) so that we can all marvel at your creation!

We might even take a look at your level too!

Please note before posting a Level thread in the Level Showcase: The auto moderation system catches posts with a large amount of links by members with 5 posts or less.
