Space Marine

Hey everyone I'm new to LBPCentral. I just played a few of the showcases and decided to sign up. Seems like a good place to find quality levels and get to know other creators. Also seems like a good place to get my levels noticed.

Anyway I just uploaded my latest creation - SPACE MARINE. It's a fully 3D FPS survival challenge. I've fixed the 3D camera rotation issues so everything runs smoothly. The game basically revolves around trying to defend and repair 4 power generators from waves of aliens while also trying to keep yourself alive. I've had a look around LBP Vita for other 3D FPS games - eyeing up the competition ; ) I've only found one other level with a proper 3D camera that allows smooth rotation and it just put you in a cardboard box shooting at flying squares -pretty lazy effort - so I think my level will fill the void for a proper FPS on LBP Vita. Hope you give it a play, here's the link - http://vita.lbp.me/v/ccs3g

If you enjoy this you should also check out my arcade mini game "BOXED IN!" It's not as ambitious as Space Marine but it's definitely worth a play - http://vita.lbp.me/v/c-5nb

I checked out both of your levels today so I'll leave some feedback now.

Space Marine had awesome visuals, the 3D effect was bang on and even the controls felt sleek. But it really didn't feel fair, as I was dumped in the middle of loads of aliens, getting shot at from angles I couldn't even see! I died fast. I'd like to see this extended a bit more, maybe levels that build up eg the first room has one alien, then maybe a puzzle and more aliens?
Anyway as I said the visuals are unrivalled in terms of 3D so kudos on that and the ease of controls.

Boxed In! was a fun, simple concept and I liked how it ramped up and started becoming difficult. It's an easy concept but I actually enjoyed playing it more than the Space Marine, but there wasn't a lot to it. Well executed but a shallow concept.
I gave it a <3 anyway, cos I want to come back and try and beat myself! Haha

Thanks for the feedback Coxy. I did initially have a much bigger health bar for Space Marine but after some testing I found that it made the game too easy. If you just keep moving and take out the first few aliens of each wave as they are approaching then it's pretty hard to fail due to death. Maybe you didn't notice cos it's quite dark but the aliens spawn in far away and then slowly move in. You can just see their glowing eyes in the distance. If you shoot them then you should be able to take out most of them before they can even attack you. The only way I fail when playing the level is when a generator explodes.

I hope you give it another go. Just try to keep moving and take out the aliens fast so you don't get swarmed - you can survive for a really long time if you keep repairing the generators as you can see my score in over 30,000. Boxed In is ALOT harder haha.

I think the reason you're dying so fast is due to the first wave of aliens being spawned in as soon as you start which puts you in a bad spot. After that it's pretty easy to pick off most of them from a distance. I'll update the level and add a delay for the initial wave. Thanks again for the feedback man : )

For Space Marine, you did a great job on the 3D effect. Moving around worked well enough, though my biggest problem with the whole thing was that the camera would sporadically shift for a second and move everything about. It was quite jarring and I never quite pinpointed how it happened. At first I thought maybe I was on the edge of something or hit an object or got hit, but it didn't seem consistent with any of those.

The premise was simple enough as well, and while I didn't score anywhere near 30,000 points and probably never will, it was fun to try out.

Boxed in was pretty good too. What was done was done well, and I liked how the music fit perfectly. It was also easy to pick up. My only suggestion would have been to add more to it to help it stand out against other levels like this. Maybe have the arrow box move through the opening each time or something.

And finally, a personal gripe is seeing the character spawn and enter the level before going to the menu. This is a minor issue for both of these games but it would be nice if it just transitioned straight to the menu with the jarring camera change.
