Making photos on HDD into stickers

Archive: 8 posts

Hiya everyone,

Ok so I'm working on the third level in my series, and I wanted to have a hidden room that had some extra story elements in it along with pictures of my own concept sketches. I know how to scan and get the concept sketches onto the HDD, but I was wondering if there was a way to take those photos from the HDD and make them into a sticker. I hope there is a way to do this. I know that I can just use my PS Eye, but the resolution is usually not that great with it.

Thank You

good question, ive never heard of anyone doing this, not saying it can't be done. I do however know that pseye will take photos of stuff for you and place it in your sticker bag2013-08-09 04:31:00

Unfortunately no. There is good reason behind this. It helps resist against content that could violate the EULA of LBP online play from making it into LBP. Not to mention some original image files can carry viruses, nasty little buggers, and we don't need any of that swimming around in the LBP servers. In short an image must be generated in LittleBigPlanet directly and not imported like fireworks from China. Of course there are many productive ways to get high quality pictures as stickers.

The most effective and prettiest way is to own the cross-controller pack. Using your PS Vita system and a personal computer, load images you want to capture on the screen of a computer. Now go into Cross-Controller mode and start a new level on your moon. On the PS Vita (not using a PS3 controller to control the PS3 side of edit mode), open your Pop-it and select your stickers and decorations icon. Now anywhere at the top of the menus you will find the "Take a Photo" function. Select it and your PS Vita screen will switch onto the camera on the PS Vita system. You can even switch between either the front-facing camera or the rear. It's more handy than a smartphone created by a geek with a thing for fruit from cross pollinating trees. Now, use the R button to snap the desired picture. Remember, Woodsy the Owl says "Keep it clean" no taking pictures of the outhouses in that national forest campground you stayed at last summer, or worse taking pictures of me using that outhouse. In any case, if done right a picture should snap and will be saved BOTH on the PS Vita system "My Pictures" section of your Stickers and Decorations page and EVEN the PS3 "My Pictures" section of your Stickers and Decorations page, and in the PS3 system you can name your stickers and give them descriptions and custom categories.

Now not everyone has a PS Vita system, though if what I just said is any indication you are probably itching to get one now! But until you do get a PS Vita system you can use your PlayStation Eye camera accessory as a substitute and you don't even need any special DLC packs either! In fact, this works in BOTH LittleBigPlanet 1 and LittleBigPlanet 2 so this technique can be done by everyone with a PlayStation Eye camera accessory. Enough to make the local photo studio at a Walmart go out of business for sure. Anyways, simply open your Pop-it in any mode, and go to your Sticker and Decorations page. Find the PlayStation Eye Photos page. Find a frame you like. Then simply take the Eye camera itself and point it at your target. Unlike the Vita technique, the best pictures on the Eye are taken by aiming at printed material and not a screen. Of course the worst material is the material that is forbidden on LittleBigPlanet, like the time the narrator's cat Susan went to the last Litter Box convention in Vegas. I think you get the idea. In any case, Eye camera aiming at printed material, Vita aiming at images on a computer screen.

What do you mean you do not have a Vita or an Eye camera? Well if we really must think around this, then consider creating your own stickers in the game. This is especially great if you have a knack for that new wave of 8-bit fan art (you would think that would be a style meant for the 80's). Build your objects in LittleBigPlanet that create your artistic masterpiece then you can snap a photo using the Capture Image tool in Stickers and Decorations. Remember the world will see it, so make sure the world WANTS to see it (hint, don't take pictures of the magazines that Susan has hiding in her scratching post). Also do not forget that a PS Move controller can be used to create paintings to use as stickers, if you can wave your hand around better than a mouse can directing magical mops to serve as a water carrier service.

To see how good a PS Vita camera can capture images, check out my level in my signature, the prizes at the end when you beat the level is my original artwork but was captured beautifully using the PS Vita camera in Cross Controller Mode.

Wow! Thanks WyomingMyst for the great response! I'll be sure to check out your level to look at the picture quality. Unfortunately, I don't have a Vita (I really want one now though!), but I do have a PS Eye, so I will be sure to use that technique.

Thanks for also explaining the reason why they don't allow this. I never really thought about the problems with EULA of LBP and the viruses and such.

One final question then, sticker panel is the best material out there for displaying pictures. Does it come with the Move Pack? And if I get the move pack, do I NEED a move controller to get the sticker panel material? (Sorry realized it was 2 questions).

Thanks Again!

The Sticker Panel material can be found in one of the Tutorials for the Move Pack. It's the one that teaches you how to use it! Unfortunately, you must have the Move Pack purchased in order to be able to use Sticker Panel and any other Move Pack DLC. So, in short, you don't need a Move controller to get it, but you will need to purchase the Move Pack to use it!

Now Sticker Panel is very handy for general stickers, however I have found it sometimes does not display certain stickers well in some lighting situations (you have to experiment). If the level is daylight bright you may find Sticker Panel does not display some custom stickers well. Experiment and see how it develops.2013-08-10 02:29:00
