Android ROMs - any suggestions?

Archive: 7 posts

Got me some spare time and thinking about flashing a new ROM on my Samsung S3 I9300. Cyanogenmod doesn't have the latest jellybean for my rooted international version and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions? I basically want the most up todate Android experience, no bloatware and no bugs.

Any android experts out there?

Many thanks y'all.

This really isn't the best site to ask about this. I think they don't like people talking about things related to hacking.

You might have better luck on http://forum.xda-developers.com/

Android is completely open source though, right? It's just linux isn't it? Nothing dodgy about hacking it unless you use it to pirate apps, but the same could be said for anything.2013-08-09 09:04:00

I don't see why we can't discuss it...

Yeah, it's not hacking. It's a practise recognised by loads of providers, no malicious activity going on here.

I realise I could trawl the internet for this but I don't want to have join more forums just yet. Sometimes asking others directly yields quicker and better results than searching.

I didn't call it hacking. I said 'related to hacking', but honestly I'm not too sure about topics like these. I've posted a few topics before about things similar to this, but they were either taken down or I don't know what..2013-08-10 05:30:00

It's more so modifying... but since Android itself is a Linux distribution; it is open-source like any other distribution. It's different for the PSP and other gaming consoles because they are closed-source, and not beholden to the decision resulting from the geohotz case that made modifying your phone legal. Do I disagree that they should be treated differently? Yeah, but the sites rules are rules in that regard.

That being said, since there is already a legal precedent in regard to phones... even if android was not open source, we would most likely be in the clear. I don't necessarily know what to say to OP though - I have been running CyanogenMod 10.1.2 myself for quite a while now. Pic related.
