Um....Cloverfield?

Midnight Meat Train

Oh yeah, I liked Requiem for a Dream! And American History X, AND DONNIE DARKO WHICH WAS AWEsomE!

I'm a big horror/thriller fan, I hate those stupid teen horror movies though. I also forgot to mention I loved Hannibal Rising. Fantastic movie.

Currently I'm waiting for the Prince of Persia movie, but I have a feeling that it will be a big over-hyped piece of garbage, we shall see. I really want the Bioshock movie to come out, Bioshock really did construct the perfect story. ...And waiting to see S. Darko so I can tear it apart!

Now time for an Awesomemans fun fact!

Jake Gyllenhaal is starring in Prince of Persia!

hmm

Evil Dead II is probably the first that comes to mind
IZO
Brother
Ghostdog
Shogun Assassin
Clerks/Clerks II/Mallrats
From Dusk Til Dawn

I know there's more I can't think of right now.

1408 - it's a love hate thing and I love it.

Altered States - definitely under the cult category. Deals with sensory deprivation and de-evolution.

The Shining - Nothing will top Jack Nicholson's performance.

28 Days Later - saw this in theaters. Amazing film for an independent undertaking.

Silent Hill - just because I'm a big fan of the games.

American Beauty - I dunno if you would consider this cult/dark but it comes close... this is my favorite movie of all time so, I had to throw it in here.

I know there are tons more but those are the first ones that come to mind.

I love all those movies, but I've never seen They Live.

I once had an opportunity to buy a game for PS1 based on City of Lost Children, but passed it up and have never seen it since. That movie is magnificent, which reminds me of another dark grimm tale.

The 80's sequel to The Wizard of Oz starring the girl from American History X - "Return to Oz"

My love for Big Lebowski reminds me to mention Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas.

Waking Life was great... it made me ramble philisophically to people who had no idea what I was talking about for a good couple weeks lol - that Keuanu Reeves flick using the same technique was a decent movie too.

...and if you like Old Boy, check out IZO. That movie is very hard to watch, but worth seeing at least once. It's pretty out there.

SPUN with John Leguizamo, Britney Murphy and a few other decent actors is kind of an offbeat movie worth mentioning. Very unique.

Can't believe nobody's said Eraserhead!

But by that same token, I'm thrilled to be the first one to say Eraserhead.

Eraserhead! Yaaay! Weeee!!

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/teebonesy/20071128_eraserhead.jpg

You really don't get much cultier than Eraserhead.

A couple of other cult classics I love that were actually quite well-known when they came out but that happen to have rabid followers to this day: Brazil, A Clockwork Orange

Throw in Videodrome. While I'm at it.

Citing Eraserhead as a cult film might just be too easy.

Fight Club
Se7en
Pan's Labyrinth
Blood Simple
Barton Fink
Miller's Crossing
American Movie
Cabin Fever
Trainspotting
This Is Spinal Tap

both the grindhouse are so cool too. Planet Terror has a ton of blood and language but funny as anything for what it is.2009-01-30 00:52:00

Here's a few I'd recommend
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Sling Blade
Lock,Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels (probably my favorite)
A Scanner Darkly (not sure if this is considered cult, but I think so)

Grindhouse was absolutely a cult movie... I really wish they hadn't split them up on DVD. The double feature set up was a novel idea.

I love Fight Club so much. I can analyze that movie in a new way every time I watch it... it was so wasted on mainstream audiences.

I like the rest of those alot too. Se7en is a classic.

I think Pan's Labyrinth, along with The Fountain, is one of the only fantasy movie worth even mentioning (and much more) since the 80's with films like Labyrinth, Legend, Never Ending Story, Dark Crystal, etc...

I remember the Cabin Fever DVD had some short claymation stuff on the bonus features about

A SCANNER DARKLY! That's the Waking State style Keanu Reeves flick I was talking about in my other post. Haven't been able to remember the name since I saw it.

Sling Blade is a personal favorite of mine... I never get tired of that movie, and I think it's alot deeper and more important than people think.

Lock Stock... I'm more partial to Snatch, but it was still great.

Quentin's stuff is always a favorite.

One thing and one place - when combined, create a movie that shall win this thread forever.

1. Big Trouble
2. Little China

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is my all-time favorite movie. Great aesthetics, hilarious dialogue (so many quotables), idk... I just love it.

12 Monkeys (more Terry Gilliam)
Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly (Richard Linklater)
most Cohen Brothers movies
The Life Aquatic
What the Bleep do we Know?
The Warriors (now THAT'S cult)
Rocky Horror (cult cult cult)
oh yeah and Donnie Darko

Yes... yes it does.

"DON'T LOOK AT IT!"

"I ALREADY DID!"

"I SAID DON'T LOOK AT IT!"

"I WON'T!"

That reminds me of The Golden Child and the Shogun of Harlem

I quite like the Saw films, they appeal to some weird part of my mind. Although that pit of needles scene in Saw 2 absolutely terrified me.

I loved Pan's Labyrinth and The Warriors is decent ("Can you dig it!"... they really could have come up with a better line than that).

28 Weeks Later is absolutely fantastic and IMO better than the original. Must watch especially if you've seen the first.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is pretty good. Really weird and funny. Depp's performance is great!

Snatch is an excellent film and probably my favourite out of the British gangster movies (like Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels).

The Descent (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/descent/) is pretty **** good and much better than I was expecting it to be.

You guys have mentioned loads of films I've never even heard of :O!

EDIT: "It's All Gone Pete Tong" is pretty good. Not dark really but still very good. It's about a DJ in Ibiza who goes completely deaf. It's quite a memorable story and well worth watching .

And "Let the Right One In" (or L?t den r?tte komma in) is another one that's worth watching. It's a vampire film but it's quite different to any I've seen before. It's a "relationship" vampire film as opposed to loads of vampires killing everyone but it focuses on kids as opposed to adults.

lol... of course but that's what makes it so good, it's campy as hell

I've just remembered another one. Very dark, very funny, very obscure. The Attic Expeditions. I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone, but if this is your type of movie, it's excellent.

Just for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, (I just watched it) The Mothman Prophecies is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. For those of you with Comcast, it's on demand under FearNet under free movies.2009-02-11 23:18:00

Meh, it wasn't that novel, that's such movies used to be presented, back in the day. =P

Anyway, Escape from New York, The Thing, Dark City and Dirty Harry are all good films.

The problem with Grindhouse is that it was intended to be cult.... it doesn't really work that way.2009-02-14 19:44:00
