My New Level: Sackboy Does America!

Archive: 4 posts

Hi everyone, I've just created my new level and popped over to show you it!

After many long hours my new level is finally here. I'm very proud of it and I hope you all like it too.

PSN: KatanaStrikes
Location: America...

- Sackboy stars in his own movie and travels across America,
- Level based on famous American landmarks. Lots of little details tucked in,
- Fun and informative along the way, not forgetting the final twist at the end...

Just some of the landmarks you'll be visiting along the way!

Enjoy, comment and heart away!

Thanks!

This level is a very interesting concept. It's not so much a GAME as it is a tour of America (I may have my 6-year-old play it tomorrow). I can recommend this level to just about everyone, at least to walk through once.

(there is a LITTLE BIT of actual game in here, but it is only for about 20 seconds)

PROS
+Beautiful. I love the detail. You spent a lot of time working on actual landmarks, but with a cartoony feel to it.
+You get to ride in a car, a boat, and a helicopter. I like the different vehicle segments.

CONS
-In the building when you walk up the stairs it seems to take a long time. I wished the lift worked.
-Also, in the building when walking up the stairs I jumped several times because of small level issues moving between the stair segments and I kept jumping all the way out to the window ledge. In some cases it was difficult to get back in.
-After the King Kong part I thought the material hanging from the string was the next thing I had to jump to. So I did, and fell all the way back down the building, and at that point I had to go all the way back up again.
-The girl in King Kong's mouth says "Help me", but after you kill King Kong she completely disappears. I would suggest somehow emitting her onto the top of the building so she doesn't appear to be gone.
- Small detail, but would be cool - both Neverrynal and myself separately have levels that simulate a helicopter propeller spinning. Both work well, but are completely different (Neverrynal - Sin City, CuzFeeshe - Jacques the acadian warlord). I would suggest you take a look because it was a little odd being lowered in a totally still helicopter.

All in all, this is a great non-game level that I would recommend anyone take a look at.

If you get a chance, check out "Splat Invaders Saga". You don't necessarily need to give feedback on my showcase thread, but you certainly can if you want.

Wow many thanks for the feedback, this is both helpful and useful.

I'll comment on your suggestions:

The stairs part is quite long and (dare I say) a little dull. What I will do here is add a few more facts on the building so it keeps you more interested as you go up. I didn't really want to put a lift in here as I thought that was a bit too easy and the stairs add a bit of platforming to the level. (Someone also said it reminded them a bit of the part of FFVII which was cool).

The window ledge part has now been fixed, I understand the problems there and it is no longer an issue.

Also I've added the word exit on the exit point as an helpful hint as to where you should be going. I've also added some gas below the boss so you die rather than start at the bottom (though the easier way to get back up here would be to respawn at the checkpoint). But I think this part is more clearer to see where to go now.

Again the girl has been corrected and added. I know this was missing initially and felt odd, so it's now in there.

Thanks for the suggestion of the helicoper blades. I certainly wasn't aware you could do this so will check out the levels and see if I can add this to the helicopter part.

Thanks again and to everyone who's commented/hearted me and my levels.

Did you see my feedback in your level's comments? I don't remember if I asked you that on GAF.

Anyhow, in case you didn't read, I loved the level. I don't have much negative to tell. The style was really particuliar. I'd name this genre "envirronemental" or something. Sharing some real data in the level was the detail that really got me to do it all.

I'm clearly waiting for your next Safaris!
