Impact Sensers

Archive: 10 posts

While running through comphermc's tutorial about measurement, speed, and grid movement, the impact senser isn't behaving as expected. Though I'm using a LBP2 torial on the vita so that may be the issue.

What I'm trying to accomplish is basically to have all my bits with movers on them to stay within an invisible square. On compher's tutorial, he makes a wall with sticker panel and puts a tag on it. Then an inverted impact senser to see if the bits have hit the sticker panel wall. For some reason the senser only turns on and off properly when I move the wall and not when I move the block it's on.

I'm open to other ways to make movers stop moving a certain direction when they reach a certain point. Or if anyone knows why the tutorial version doesn't work properly on the vita. Either way.. please help.

PS.. I don't actually want anything to physically 'impact' anything. As all my bits are either dephysicalized or made of sticker panels and invisibile material. But according to the tutorial that shouldn't have caused this issue.

Hey there.

Impact Sensors on non-physical objects can be a bit dodgy...
First of all be sure that any sensor placed on Sticker Panel/Hologram have the Rigid Connections and Adjacent Layers enabled.
Also note that dephysicalised objects never will generate impacts. A solution can be to overlay the dephysical object with a matching piece of Sticker Panel/Hologram.

I hope this helps

I've made both objects sticker panel and re-physicalized them. Also I turned on the include rigid connections and adjacent layers settings. Still not working though. 2013-08-03 17:28:00

Hmm... That seems very odd!

You haven't enabled Sackperson- or Tag specific impact detection by accident? If not, try replacing all the sensors, and if that doesn't work, you can capture your work and move it to a fresh level patch.
These two suggestions are the last resort of lbp debugging though, and the Impact Sensors should work just fine in the scenario you describe...

Sorry that I cannot come up with anything better

Yes I have the senser set to detect a tag on the wall.2013-08-04 02:53:00

I have always had problems with the impact sensors, there seems to be a bug with the impact sensors in lbpv. Most of the time they don't even work properly, sometimes they do and other times they don't do what they're supposed to do, that may be the case here.2013-08-04 03:40:00

I have not yet experienced this, but it defnitely doesn't sound good... Are your issues reproduceable, and are they associated with specific Materials, impacts at high speeds and/or instances of low framerate?

I know you weren't asking me but my issue is reproducable as I was following allong the compher tutorial on speed measurement and grid movement. When I got to the tag senser it stopped working. When I moved the block it had issues but worked when I moved the wall.

Anyways if anyone has this same issue, the fix I found was to put a tag senser on the block instead of an impact senser. I set the angle to 180 degrees and moved my wall right a little.

I tried going through the tutorial, and there is indeed an issue with the 1-frame impact detection of the sensors. Reducing the movement speed and giving the sensors 2+ frames of movement to register the impact seemed to fix it as well. It should always work on a single frame basis though, so that 'fix' is sorta invalid...

I'm glad you were able to sort it using the good ol' Tag Sensors

Thanks. I never thought to slow things down and that fix will work just fine for my project. Now I can add impact sensers to my toolbox. Thanks a bunch!2013-08-07 05:29:00
