Some Interesting and Cool Ideas

Archive: 17 posts

Ok, I am an amazing thinker and think about many different things, most of the time I am thinking of something that would be cool it LBP, here are my thoughts:

1: Enhanced Gravity Control

The base part of this is too make it extremely custom and fun to work with.
1. You select the direction the gravity is pulling.
2. Select the margin you want it to work in, you can choose whole level or designate a region.
3. You can choose the view, like upright sideways or upside down.
4. Choose level of gravity from 0 to 500

With this, I think it will be able to make levels much more fun, for instance you will be able to walk on walls, and also it would give you a good chance to make some challenging puzzles. It would also make the space levels we know and love much more exciting and make it more like a real experience.

2. Custom Character Enhancement
With this you would be able to make something your character can hold without grabbing, like the paintinator. You will be able to choose which arm, and the functions of buttons. For instance, say you were to make a gun, you could make L1 turn on a laser and R1 fire it. This would make custom levels that much more custom and make them able to go farther then ever before. There will be a new window you can put your character enhancements in.

3. Save As Material Option
Say you made something look pretty cool with a sticker, but you keep over layering it and the sticker overlaps and makes it look kind of weird. Well with this, you could save it as a material and choose desired size and drag it to make it look exactly the way you want it to.

4. Sticker Shape Editor
One thing that makes me kind of disappointed in this game is that you can't choose the shape of your sticker, I think it would be cool to be able to make your own stickers and shape them to your liking, this would come with all of the shapes, and you could edit the sticker to your liking.

5. Round Out Objects
One thing that would be really nice in this game is the ability to round out objects and make them look more 3D. say you want to make a ball, with this handy tool you could round it out and make it look more like a ball, instead of a flat little circle, this would bring out peoples imaginations way more and make it much more interesting.

Please leave your comments and tell me what you think, later.

I think that the gravity control would lead to some really good puzzles, easily the best idea you have up there. As for the other character enhancements, I think it's better just to only have things like the paintinator because it makes it more special. Nobody would buy the MGS pack if you could make your own paintinator AND you own materials. Number 5 is an interesting idea that could work, but it would need more layers to be good enough.2009-02-03 18:14:00

You have some pretty good ideas there! The top of my must have list for lbp would consist of a gravity editor, magnets and now also the custom enhancement tool, that was really a great idea!
It would of course need a lot of pretty complicated settings and such, maybe the look of the enhancement could be made using normal materials and maybe you should even be able to create the different effects of the enhancement using normal emitters and such, or you could have, like stated above, A LOT of different settings.

Being able to change the direction of gravity mid-level would be a nice feature as well.2009-02-04 07:15:00

I can't understand the 0 to 500 gravity idea. If you have the world we live in gravity as 10 (it's 9.8m/second squared) then having 50 times this amount would just not serve much purpose. Having gravity at, say, 4 times the current in game value would pretty much cancel in game jumping. It would increase the mass of things as well, but it might cause things to break too easily.

It just looks like causing too many problems for my liking. I'd much rather prefer some sort of magnetic system over a gravity control thing. There would be far fewer things that would go wrong then...

Yes, they will definitely think to put in a sackperson magnet..2009-02-08 02:50:00

Magnetic boots enhancement, and an ability to tweak metals and their charge. If you have negative on negative, it repels, obviously. Now, ad an electromagnet type material/tool and that would be cool.

TBH though, all your otherones are stupid and unrealistic (no-offence)

Also along with "sticker editting" tool you could also have a "capture sticker" tool. That way you can save the specifically shaped stickers, or even just other sticker compliations youve made and save them as a new sticker to use more effectively, efficiently or to give away as a prize. =P2009-02-09 22:27:00

Gravity would be interesting.

Personally all i want is the ability to rotate camera viewpoints. It would allow so many possibilities for gameplay without having to change any environmental features and so not changing the nature of the game.

I don't think he means up to 500 times the normal gravity. Say the average gravity is 250. 500 is twice as much and 0 is (obviously) zero-gravity.

/...............increments slightly altering gravity..................
0------------------------250-------------------------500
Zero-gravity............Normal-gravity....................2x gravity

Already possible, if you're saying what I think you'e saying.

First idea is wonderful!
Fourth is pretty highly desired by everyone
Fifth would be wayy too buggy though, Think of complex circles and the trouble it would cause...

On your gravity idea.. it wouldn't as such alter whether you could walk on walls if you changed the levels gravity level, it would only really affect things weight and bouncyness.
A little addition your idea would be to make "gravity centres" - like a little tool to put in your level with a radius for which it has gravity over and you can set that gravity level!
(your Sackboy would be pulled towards the strongest gravity centre - hence allowing you to walk on walls!)

Nice ideas though

EDIT: at the above point "zero" gravity is a no go area. So.. you just in a level and don't stop for 5 minutes until you reach the top limit?
The zero on the scale should be half gravity

no gravity seems ok..... in the particle emitter you could also launch stuff that could have some specific gravity... you can do that in motion design softwares and it's lots of usefull 2009-02-19 17:38:00

yea zero gravity should be doable.. you have to remember 0 gravity doesnt mean your pulled up.. you not pulled anywhere you just float. like (Pink?) floaty, you just stay put. with the physics with swinging and moving in mid air you should still be able to manuver pretty good in 0g. would work wonders on underwater levels.. blue fog + 0g =instant under water. I also agree that if any thing with gravity is changed they should include a gravity tool, that could set the gravity and the direction of the gravity in an area. (wether it pulls towards the center of the object or lets you pick the direction...) if It doesnt simply let you pick which way it pulls it should have a radius setting like the upcoming tweak for the mag switch, so that it could say pull you against a wall making the wall into the floor, but once your on the other side of the wall your not pulled into the same wall (if that makes sense)2009-02-19 18:48:00

You obviously don't understand the laws of gravity
zero gravity + jump = bye bye level, see you in 10 minutes when i bounce off the level height limit.. YAY

this would be so awesome if it was put in LBP, i dont know how the zero gravity would work/look while you are playing but otherwise this is a great idea2009-03-28 22:44:00

The gravity control sounds cool, but it would make anti-gravity levels powered by pistons look very simple.2009-04-05 02:34:00
