Excitin' times: The Movies featured on Mm Picks and IGN's Level-Lovers Anonymous!

Archive: 7 posts

We all peruse these boards and yell and shout and speak and make animal noises with our keyboards in order to express frustrations, curiosities, and elations.

Today, for me - it's happy-time.

When I saw that The Movies was featured on IGN on last week's LLA (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/944/944012p1.html), ridiculously it was as I was checking the page for a link to submit my levels. As I scrolled down, I saw The Movies on there, and that's when the poopies came out.

It was a real fluke and I didn't expect it, and it was just awesome. Brought in about 3000 plays in a couple of weeks.

I secretly never expected to make it on Mm Picks. I never submitted or talked about my level, because I always just assumed it wouldn't happen. For me, it was another source of finding cool levels I haven't played (though usually they were ones I had).

If poopies came out when I saw The Movies on LLA, you can imagine the spectacle when I saw it on Mm Picks (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/01/26/mm-picks-4/). Some of the things that came out of me:
- confetti (not sure how)
- rainbows (feels like you'd expect)
- a pig wearing a propellor-beanie (don't know how that got in there)
- fourteen dollars, twelve cents (I think I remember how that got in there)
- actual bricks (the rectangular maroon ones with circular holes in them)
- something evanescent and wispy which dissipated almost instantly, and which I suspect was purest joy
- already-lit sparklers (3 in total: two were blue, one was a reddish-orange)
- poopies

So that was really a rare event that occured. I know my bodily functions and I set most of my schedule by them, so this was a phenomenal occasion.

I like to think that every great creator out there will have their day to explode as well, but I only hope that MM will be able to keep up with the unbelievable number of incredibly great levels that are patiently waiting to be featured.

Godspeed to all!

Well, this forum's spotlight for starters! I'm out of the loop so far, but hopefully soon, I'd love to be in the list - it's on my hearted creators list, and I haven't played them all, so it's ALWAYS a source for levels for me whenever I turn the game on.

After this, I hang up my LBP hat forever, because I'm done.
Just kidding.
I quit my day job and play LBP for money.
Just kidding.

Eventually I'll make another level, and hopefully it turns into my best one. But who knows, after all this. Tricky to follow up a level that's seen some success like this.

The plus side for me is that The Movies is woefully short on actual gameplay, being mainly an elaborate setpiece. So that's what I need to improve on for the next one. If I can get the mood and the look as good or better, but actually have a lot of gameplay as well, it shouldn't be too hard to improve on it.

Congratz. I played The Movies. It was pure genius. Your Christmas level was the funniest thing I've played in LBP so far. And oh, you're a great writer! 2009-02-06 16:04:00

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated.

I spent all night last night making big tweaks to The Movies. There's much more going on now - a little bit of story that's told and ends, extra details at the end, LOTS of changes to the trolley ride (completely re-built the tracks and wheel mechanism, and added in a whole whack of cool new scenery that goes by so fast you barely notice it).

I literally went for over 10 hours straight on these changes and here I am sleep-deprived for the day. Ridiculous.

Ah well - in a crazy way I think it's worth it.
