Creation Marathon 3: Re-Created - Major Rule and Role Changes & Official Team List!

Archive: 105 posts

Update: Here is theme! Good luck!

"An adventure isn't an adventure without friends, danger, or a goal for the hero! Your theme this time is to make a level that captures the spirit of adventure and trials an aspiring hero would have to face on a quest!"

This could mean anything from having the player save a prince to giving the player some allies to help him on this way!

Basically, if you've seen or read a classic adventure tale, you are using those as your basic design choices!n
Remeber inspiration creations not just basic ideas!"

Hello Creation Marathon-ers!

What more can I say? We have 5, yes 5, days from the release of this post until Creation Marathon 3: Re-Created begins! A few days ago, we asked the LittleBigPlanet Community if they would see Creation Marathon 3 get re-announced and we got a lot of positive feedback! Then the day after, we announced registration for Creation Marathon 3: Re-Created and we got people from the community entering left and right and we filled a lot of spots!

However, we did not get enough spots to fill up to have the proper experience of a Creation Marathon. BUT, that is a good thing because, we are going back to the roots of the first Creation Marathon! Which means the following:

This is NOT a competition with two teams, its only ONE big team event working together instead!

We will have 4 Groups of 4, NOT 3 groups of 4. The cycle will execute in this form:

The cycle: Group1→Group2→Group3→Group4→Group1→Group2→Group3→ Group4→Finished!

Each Group has 2(3 hour) shifts for creating which adds up to a total of 24 hours!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Along with making one big team to eliminate the competition component, we *sniff* had to get rid the judging role.

To the Judges, we apologize greatly to say you are no longer needed since this isn't a competition anymore. Thank you for your initial support and you guys are AWESOME!

The rest of the roles remain, however, there is a change to the Group Leader Role:

To the Group Leaders (see below if you are one) your job is much easier. All you have to do is host when your group is creating, and make sure the level is passed on to the next Group Leader! The Journal Entries are NO longer apart of this competition.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Marathon will begin on July 27th at 12AM GMT/5PM EST and will end at 12AM GMT/5PM EST

Please note: You must know you are attending at that time and that you can stay through your shift. Please be responsible or it will change the course of the marathon!

The prizes are currently being developed and we are happy to distribute them once the marathon is over.

The Challenge/Theme of the marathon will be announced at the day of the marathon!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Official Team List!

Please Note: Since we are merging to one big team, we can't have everyone who registered be a confirmed participant. So we are doing first come first serve, and the rest will be volunteers/backups.

The teams have been randomized. We CAN change the teams only if it will be a solution to a timezone problem!

Wait, I think I remember it saying that there weren't DLC, but, if every group leader has the move pack, are we allowed to use that? The stuff from it are VERY helpful. 2013-07-23 03:49:00

If every group leader has the Move pack TehMonkeyBlade, then that we can allow. When we put the level on the Creation Marathon earth at the end, Gray needs to have all the DLC that has been used. I'm sure he has the move pack, so if all group leaders have it - yes!

I'm glad to see the final outline of the contest, can't wait! I'm curious as to what the prize may be too.

On another note, sorry I couldn't get anyone else to join in before registration ended , i guess some people weren't interested in putting in the 6 hours of work.

1 massive team means 1 massive awesome level

Here's something to ponder though:

how crappy would it be to come in 2nd place in a 1 team competition

I wouldn't worry about what the prize will be, SuperCola. The whole marathon is about having fun and creating with other people based on a challenge, the prize being developed is not worth more than the experience itself.

I wouldn't worry about what the prize will be, gary_WBA. Creating for the marathon and having the experience is much better than what the prize is - it is all about the fun!

Yes, gary_WBA! From 9AM to 12PM and 9PM to 12AM GMT, that will be the 27th! When it hits 12 AM, it will be Sunday and it will be all over. Due to time zones, some people start on Friday and some end on Sunday. I find that really weird 0_o.

A person could make a part or to a song, and other people can add different instruments or beats to the song to spice it up. We get 2 three hour periods so "notes" could be left regarding to song instructions. It all kind of depends on what the Theme is going to be. We could all make several songs and we all vote through a PSN Text Chat Room for the final group to select. Since some groups would go before others, we could all send objects or other music to each other to vote on during the whole competition. Seems kind of complicated but it would get us all to agree on things even after our group time is up.2013-07-25 21:19:00

Nice strategy thinking, MusicMan234, the theme shouldn't be a problem. It's not too specific so the music can be made in any way. I suggest getting into one big group chat with the whole team, we might make one real soon.

DLC can be tricky to use, IAGUITO21! The publisher at the end might not have certain DLC if you guys use it which means we can't fix bugs if there is any! D: I know the publisher has the move pack, so if anyone else has it then you can use that. Hopefully they have other DLC too!

Also, I'm not sure what the chat cap is on PSN. But if need be, people can leave when they want to sleep in their break and come back afterwards. Or we can have two chats, it's up to you guys!

Hey guys! As you all know I'm the guy who will be publishing the level on a separate, "CreateMarathonLBP" account. All of my DLC transfers over due to the account being on the same PS3, so I'll still have all the DLC that I've bought unlocked for publishing. For reference, here are the DLC packs I own that have materials in them:

My DLC packs:

All Seasonals (Summer,Winter, Spring, Fall)

Metal Gear Solid

Monster Pack

History Pack

Marvel Pack

Move Pack

Toy Story Pack

Incredibles Pack

Actually... The only pack having to do with level creation that I DONT have is the Cross Controller. my apologies for anyone who wanted to create with it.

As an added note, I'd prefer it if you could avoid using sackbots with costumes that have DLC in them, as I rarely buy costume DLC, making it a good chance that I won't have some of the DLC costume bits.

Thanks, and have fun out there!

Thanks for the Info! My team was planning on using the Cross-Controller pack, it's a shame we can't use it though. Now, there are certain costume packs that have stickers/decorations that come with them, would you want us to refrain from using them also?

I was hanging out with will_wba earlier, I'll ask him to get in touch with you and the rest of his group.

Thank you for the support, SuperCola!

Grayspense barley has any of the costume packs, SuperCola. If the costume packs come with goodies other than costumes, I'm afraid you can't use them. :/ Sorry!

Can't wait for tomorrow! I've got Frinklebumper and Chatchito added already, but haven't really met up with anyone yet to make plans or anything since that's not really in the spirit of things, is it?

I have my PVR set up, and I've got a video editor ready to go so that I can try to shorten the 12 hours of footage I'm planning on capturing from mine and my brother's shifts (Group 1 and 4) in to one Youtube video. Which means we'll be able to have the absolute first and last shifts as well as the 2 middle ones recorded and ready to be squeezed in to a 15-minute video. Marvelous.

Can't live stream it because I'm already over my 120gb bandwidth cap for the month (Steam sale...), and a 12 hour stream would probably eat up a few hundred gigabytes anyway. Kinda sucks.

Also, any word from the group leaders on which DLC is allowed yet?

EDIT: Okay apparently the Create Marathon is tonight. Okay. I uhh... Had better rush to try and get ready then.

I'd also like to point out that they've frozen about 8 times now. It's not going well. An hour and 20 minutes of consecutive crashes.

EDIT: Make that 9...

EDIT 2: Make that 10 or 11 or something like that...

EDIT 3: I'm just gonna save myself the work and say that it froze an upwards of 12 times.

FINAL EDIT: It froze a lot more than 12. I'd say around 35, but I dunno how many times it froze after I gave in. (Sorry about that by the way!)

I will arrive back momentarily, but for now, I want to clear up something with jar. He's probably talking mad trash about me, so I will be defending myself via lbpc. I joined jar to discuss the song change, instead he accused me on several things I never said. I never said that the whole team confirmed my song on part 2 of the marathon. I never tried to persuade everyone on the team to take my song over his, I never insulted jar, he insulted me. He wouldn't give me a chance to respond to any of his acquisitions by spamming the chat box on Lbp, and when I did respond, he would continue to spam the chat box rather than typing one complete sentence. He called me a "Donut Brain" lol, and said that I wasn't going to give the team a chance to vote on songs ( apparently I'm a power hungry villain > ). I never said that his music was terrible, I actually like his songs, but he's making it seem like I don't want him to be part of the team at all, not true. I showed him the song that chatchito made and without even thinking about the song, he goes on a rant about one particular noise he heard in the song, saying that it was ripped straight from mastablastya. You have to agree with me here, can anyone own a certain music genre on lbp? I said I wasn't going to argue with him and that he could do what he wanted with the songs, but he continued the argument and constantly asked the same question that I had already answered. I'll just stick to level design next time I'm in any kind of event with jar, he's definitely not one of the creators I'd want to meet because of his arrogant attitude. I just wanted to clear this up because I know that he's probably telling the whole team stories right now 2013-07-27 19:29:00

Y'know this was one of my fears, looking back at the team list.

I had a fear that there would be conflict in who made the music for the level, since multiple music creators were on one team. If I would've clued in sooner I would've just declined any sort of custom music to avoid this problem. However, since the last time this event was done with a single team was roughly a year and a half ago, it skipped my mind.

Clearly there's been a big difference of opinions here, and I'm not going to be one to change them, but I sincerely suggest you contact the others in the team and ask for a completely unbiased vote on who should be the one to make the music. It's probably the only fair way to decide things in this situation.

That, or you know, working together would be a great option.

[EDIT:] Either you work something out amoungst yourselves, or have your music replaced with a track from in-game. None of this arguing is necessary.

A music selector at the start?

Perkins hasn't been on for 2 hours (from when I was on), he published before he left. Logic must have forgotten to take it down. I don't think it matters though grayspence. Their not finished products. The level is going on LBPMarathons "Your" account anyways. We all know who worked on it and where the real level will be.
I also know that the music has already been selected.
Good to know they got over the freezing and the level is looking amazing!

A few minor set backs happened, but the creating is still on schedule. 1Hr 51Min Left. Along with any time that was given for the freezing. Really as the host, all you had to do was give times and hope that the players passed the level to the next players. And everyone did. I personally think it went great.
EDIT: Besides the fact of anything before the competition you had to do. I know what you mean there.

It's not what I had to do, but what I had to worry about. I unexpectedly haven't had access to my PS3 at all this weekend, so this further limits my communication ability. Next, the level keeps freezing and sets things almost off schedule all while I can't contact anyone. You can imagine the guilt I feel when I can't do anything to fix it. Of course, things move on as planned but it's hard to feel like I didn't fail in my duties to keep things organized and running smoothly. Especially when a lot of creators in that group pulled an all nighter getting things to work.

To top things off, Perkins makes off with the level, everyone is upset with the freezing issues from last night, and arguments are breaking out between group members. Hell, with all the issues I doubt this event's write-up is going to be positive.

I did not do as much as the creators did, I NEVER said I did. I said managing an event that requires so much trust and participation and responsibility is incredibly stressful. Especially when everyone else's time is on the line.

I made it un-copyable because after a while I thought no one would copy it, so I didn't want a random person to copy it. Everyone,

this marathon has been quite a wild ride, with a lot of situations happening, and therefore I apologise. After all the hard bits we are almost done and everything is going smoothly! If all goes well the marathon will be completed tommorrow, everyone who attended has had a turn to participate and the goal will be reached. Overall, I think its a success! You guys are amazing for putting 150% effort and thank so you much for that, you should be proud!

We didn't even hear from you at all from our last shift. The activity of each participant will be monitored over by Gray and I. Some rules were unexpectedly broken and we are taking that into consideration.

Kind of a shame that some things went the way they did, but I personally have no regrets. I mean, we handled ourselves pretty well considering the situation, right? Despite the chaos, I still had a lot of fun, and this marathon inspired me to get back into creating.

I'd like to commend both Gray and Hype for their sacrifice and willingness to put this all together. I'd also like to personally thank them for helping me remove the rancid stank of my create-bug repellent so that I could be swarmed by the things. 8D

Can't wait to play the finished level! ^^

Dude, I explained what happened, and you understood what happened. What do you not understand now?

EDIT:

It was the only shift i went to because my little 6 year old brother had breathing issues. I'm pretty sure family is more important then a marathon monkey, and I made up my time by joining group 1, I only created with group 4 for only 30 mins.

On another note, I'd like to apologize for the drama about this level I posted. It was up there so logic could copy it from me because it was appearing on will's earth for some reason. No one had acknowledged they had copied it so I figured I'd make it not copyable until someone would respond to me. Then I had to go and the level still being published had slipped my mind ( the level had 0 plays guys, no one was going to pay a level with that kind of name any attention lol.). To be honest, I'm not even sure if logic got the level from me, I was just trying to help.

I still don't get why you made it un-copyable. Why not take it completely down? Oh well, it's over, we had fun. Got lots accomplished! Rock on Peeps!

That's your opinion, I chose family over a game, pat myself on the back.

Fun marathon you guys! I came in late, however there were some people missing from the last group so I still got to jump in a bit. I think all of this talk about the level accidentally getting published is a pretty silly thing to fight over. Just chill out already and enjoy the level? 2013-07-28 11:47:00

Thank you mnniska, the level thing isn't a big deal, it was a mistake on my part, and no one got to sneak-peek the level. The level was taken down as soon as I got home. Gary, I'm not going to repeat myself about what happened with my little brother.

Overall, it sounds like you were able to settle your differences and pull together as adults to have a fun, learning experience. Nice work and I'm super stoked to play!2013-07-28 15:11:00

Please everyone, the results ended up with us finishing and the other situations did not stop us from working in the event. The level will be published today and no more targeting people please, its not what the event is about! Thank you!

hyper Yes, I agree. I won't post about the level being published or someone not coming to my group now because the level's finished.

I want to congratulate everyone on all of the hard work that they put into the Create Marathon. We as a community accomplished a lot and we even made new friends along the way, which is what Little Big Planet is all about and I want to thank Grayspence and Hyperdude95 for putting this wonderful event together.

We all make mistakes, TheMonkeyblade. The result was satisfying and the important part is that we learn from our mistakes. Overall, we had fun!

Well, we've all the setbacks and frustrations you all faced getting this out, I think that you all deserve a huge pat on the back. A lot of you suffered and some even felt a little sick, but in the end you all cared so much about the event that you pulled through and made it work out. I am seriously proud to be a host of this event, even if my help was limited due to connection issues. You guys are truly fantastic, dedicated and wonderful, and seeing all the positivity surrounding the release of the level has really helped to cheer me up and make me want to host another create marathon. (In a long while, of course!)

Again, I seriously cannot thank you all enough for the amount of patience, endurance, and passion you have all put forward to make this event successful. You guys rock, and I honestly wish there was some other way to show my appreciation rather than text.

Thank you so very, very much.
