Any body got any tips on killing the thermo?!

Archive: 6 posts

I'm currently getting on with a big project, and I know that is inevitable that some point I am going to run out of the precious thermo source. I have heard of some pretty cool ideas before, However keep in mind I cant delete parts of the level whilst it plays along as the player will have to return to the different locations on the map. Sorry for the possible repost, but anybody got any advice or help that they could offer me? Thanks!2013-07-20 17:49:00

Using a smaller pallet of materials generally helps as well as no overly complicated shapes. Less vertices less thermo. Emitting new sections and destroying old sections also helps. Perhaps you can get away with when the get close to returning, emit that section again.

If you do a bit of searching in the Tutorials, I am sure there are a few threads that will help you out.

Don't use animated materials like hologram to hold logic and connectors as it'll cause lag. Replace it with sticker panel if u have it. If you're gonna be using the same material or decoration, copy a existing item as its clone will take up less thermo. Destroy or stop emitters with destroyers or XOR gates when you're done with them. A foggy background also contributes to lag so be careful. Felt is a good mimic material so sticker it if you don't want to use pricey materials. Also, glueing increases complexity so rarely do it so use anti gravity tweakers instead.2013-07-21 06:14:00

I have a tutorial on Artistic Levels without Lag (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=73706-Artistic-Levels-without-Lag) - includes tips for reducing thermo.2013-07-24 17:17:00

Emit and destroy. There is a thread somewhere that would teach you how to do it perfectly. The whole concept is destroying the old part of a level and emit a later part to save thermo and reduce lag. I wouldnt even attempt this without finding that thread first because there is many ways I think that the player might be able to freeze. Good luck though!2013-07-25 05:15:00
