Here's my dilemma, I have been playing music for years and can play multiple instruments,( learned the banjo last year for kicks and giggles) but I cannot wrap my head around the sequencer. I have some arrangements in my head but cannot execute them. I especially have a problem with sustaining notes and strumming, can any one recommend a tutorial for this?2013-07-20 17:25:00

Sorry man, i'm good at Music Sequencers, but i'm not the type that can explain stuff about notes, since i'm autodidact (i've expirimented with MIDI, Tracker music, and now the Sequencer. I'm good at the Sequencer, but if you'd ask me what sustaining a note is, i'd probably answer "huh?").2013-07-21 17:24:00

That amazes me I've heard your stuff which is awesome. The sequencer is an instrument and in my opinion one of the hardest to master.it takes brains and finesse, its the finesse that gets me, and the brains. I have mostly played rock and roll, with a heavy hand, and a heavy hand with the sequencer just breaks the vita. I'l check you tube. If you ever do a tutorial on the sequencer let me know, and keep on churning out those master pieces....2013-07-21 17:48:00

sustaining a note basically means letting the note ring out 2013-07-21 18:43:00

Woulieka, okay, but what does ring out mean? Letting it fade out? You can do that by lengthening it and then selecting the end part and turning it's volume down.2013-07-21 20:30:00

I probably didn't ask the question correctly, but your right I was talking about the length of the note, yet keeping in time. I need to get more familiar with the controls. Thanks so much, I think as always its about practice.2013-07-22 18:03:00

When i try to make a melody, i just open up the instrument, move the note around until i find the right pitch.2013-07-22 21:05:00

Right, I know my notes but, lets see I'm trying to do Crazy train by Ozzy to see if I can. The first two notes are F sharp but they hold and then the a e and d, are like half time and quick. I'm having a hard time explaining this, He holds the f sharp and the sound decreases and almost bleeds into the next note and I have figured out the timing and notes but I haven't figured out the "Tremlo" effect, Randy Rhodes did it with a tremlo bar. I think I will need another guitar on the sequencer just to hold that F sharp. Its ambitious, maybe I should start with twinkle twinkle little star, lol2013-07-22 22:52:00

Huh...

Tremlo? I don't know about notes and stuff, but i think you misspelled it. I think you can keep a guitar on (for a long time) by using the Power Chords instrument and setting the timbre all the way up.

I'm totally untalented when it comes to stuff like this, but maybe you can have a look in the LBP2 Help Section...?! I guess the music sequencer works nearly the same and there were also posted some links for tutorials and things like that

Good call man, i was just about to send them there.
in that post there's two links that will help you guys.
One is a really detailed tutorial the other is an awesome channel i found about music theory that should help out.
Good luck guys, cant wait to hear what you come up with.

P.S. ive been studying this as of late as well, i really want to be a well rounded game designer and LBP is a great place to learn things you'll need in a professional environment...
( Art, Level Design, Music Composure, Gameplay Mechanics, Fine tuning Camera angles, Story Writing, Ect )

As i have no experience with how to read music i just keep learning and researching, but in less than 3 days ive learned a ton.
Now i have a few small music set that trigger upon certain events, adds alot to the level makes it seem more dynamic.

In closing id like to say keep up guys dont stop learning, Also if youre interstered i posted a challenge for you guys, for my first tutorial video ill be making, the more i learn about music the more i'll cover this topic as well. Check it out and have fun guys !
