Wormholes vs. Controlinators!?
Archive: 8 posts
I've been using both for awhile now and I seem to be leaning more towards merged or separate wormholes for player teleportation and timed/delayed spawning. In the original version of a level I was working on, the players were held in controlinators until a timer activated their ejection which was marked by the ending of a series of cutscenes. At the end of the prequel the player activates a warp point which sucks them in with attract-to-gel and fades away, taking them to its sequel.*If you want to see it on youtube or play it, the level's name is Viridian Terrace.* Due to lag, I was forced to stop working on it and am now in the process of completely revamping it without the problems that nearly hindered it and its prequel however I decided to do things a little differently this time. I've replaced the four controllinators with two merged wormholes as the controlinator needs to be on something for you to enter it taking up space. Unlike a single controlinator, a wormhole can hold all or one player making it essential for certain situations. I will be explaining how to delay or time spawning in another post using both. A controlinator's range can be massive with or without logic however the wormhole can match it with a connected magnetic tag or player sensor. One thing I absolutely love about the wormhole is its ability to mute its sound effects. This comes in handy when you want to use your own sound effects. Sometimes you want to keep your logic a secret and the sound of the player ejecting out of controlinator when you leave it can give people ideas about what you've done. As far as I know, there isnt a way to mute that without hindering your desired sound effect as well so the wormhole got it beat for that. However the wormhole can't be placed on logic and cannot phase through other materials like the controlinator. They are equal on terms of teleporting as it only takes two or more wormholes to get from A to B and a controlinator can automatically teleport a player with the emitter method or take them to a certain location using a follower and a twin tag should it be placed on a holo type material. Sooooo...what do you think? Team Wormhole or Team Controlinator? | 2013-07-18 20:43:00 Author: SirenScribble7189 Posts: 52 |
Team Wormhole. It's so sexy and it's my favorite actor. Just kidding- that was a twilight reference. Really though- Team Wormhole. I never really used Controlinators for the reason I still don't- because they are just so obvious. Wormholes are cool- you jump in one place, jump out the other. The only downside to wormholes are their view. I wish there was like, a "Wormhole-i-nator" and it worked like the Attract-o-gel-i-nator (or whatever it's called- I'm tired...) And you could place it on a block and give it a specified radius, mute it, change appearance, and all that in a single block. *Ahem, look at me MM* But yea, I just don't like the feel of Controllinators. They're used for controlling, not teleporting. Team Wormhole all the way. | 2013-07-18 23:34:00 Author: Radio447 Posts: 159 |
Team Wormhole for sure. They were made for teleportation, so why use something else instead? Also, why no poll? | 2013-07-23 23:28:00 Author: L1N3R1D3R Posts: 13447 |
That was me being lazy, but please leave your opinion as well! | 2013-07-27 05:06:00 Author: SirenScribble7189 Posts: 52 |
Sorry but what is attracto gel and wormholes? Are they DLC logic items? If so, for which pack? If they're for the move pack, do i HAVE to have the move controller to use them? | 2013-07-29 23:32:00 Author: Unknown User |
Sorry but what is attracto gel and wormholes? Are they DLC logic items? If so, for which pack? If they're for the move pack, do i HAVE to have the move controller to use them? Hi friend The Attract-O-Gel is a material obtainable in the Muppets pack. It is a material where when you come in within a certain distance, it uses magic and whimsical power to... well, "Attract" you to it. Double-Tapping X will cause the magic dust to cease and return your normal gravity, whatever it may be. No DLC is needed for this pack. The Wormhole is a gate, more or less, obtained in the Cross-Controller pack. It looks like a resizeable spawnpoint, with a nice hypnotizing spiral spinning around a center. You enter it with Triangle (Note: as with a controllinator) (Only if it is set as a entrance) and will magically warp you to an exit that is activated (Usually it is the entrance linked to the exit, and automatically sends you through, but can be different for advanced logic users) and is used as a way of teleporting. No DLC is required to get the Wormhole, but a PS Vita is required to play the DLC Levels. As to answer your other question, I am not sure. I'm also interested in getting the Move Pack, but I'm unsure if I need the move controller to get the Sticker Panel- Which is what I'm after, honestly | 2013-07-29 23:51:00 Author: Radio447 Posts: 159 |
Controlinator teleporting is annoying to set up and mostly redundant now that we have wormholes. So I'm definitely team wormhole. The only problem I have with them is they take up physical space, even though you can resize them. Sometimes you need that space for something else. | 2013-07-30 08:45:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
I prefer controllinator teleporters if only because of smoother transitions and the fact that more can be done with them. | 2013-07-30 14:05:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
