building an elevator that can travel horizontally & vertically

Archive: 5 posts

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to make an incredibles style level with an elevator that can go upwards and then , on cue go sideways. This seems to be really tricky as the respective pistons always interfere with each other and using rockets instead is a lot less smooth. I would basically like to construct something like the monopod in the 'Mission Incredible' MM-made level. Is this possible?

Thanks!

I suppose you could use tags at your intersections, and link them tag sensors which link to movers on the elevator. So that when it reaches the tag, the corresponding mover would then kick in, and the previous mover would then need to be turned off so the two aren't working together. If for example you use a blue tag for left, when the elevator senses the blue tag the elevator would move left, and then when it reaches a red tag, it would move up and the left mover would turn off. How you go about turn the left mover off, I cannot think at the moment.2013-07-18 18:16:00

An advanced mover would do the job for all the movement (which would spare you having to turn of individual movers). Just wire direction combiners into each of the inputs of the mover (up/down, left/right) and then some form of input into each of the combiners such as tag sensors. E.g. red tag sensor into the positive combiner for up/down, would move the lift up. Blue tag sensor into the negative combiner for up/down, would move the lift down. If you need more explanation just ask and i'll see if i can get a picture uploaded or something.

In general though, try to stick with movers for any form of motion instead of pistons. Pretty much anything a piston can do, a mover can do without any of the restrictions.

You could use followers for a really simple system. put tags at the locations the elevator should stop(tags= stop00, stop01, stop02, ..., stopN), then you can use a selector to turn on the different followers.2013-07-19 03:35:00

In one of my levels, I made a [seperate] horizontal and vertical elevators. I used followers and tags. I suppose you could hook up the follower, and have a tag sensor that activates a different follower that follows the horizontal tag.

I hope this made sense.
