Objects flying around (like bees...^^)

Archive: 7 posts

Hello everyone,

While working on a new level I got the idea, that it'd be nice to have (at a certain part of the track) some price bubbles flying around... like flies or bees, for example. But how do I make them fly like that? I tried to use this thing which makes objects move in a circle (sorry don't know the english names). Wouldn't be a beauiful solution, but better than nothing... well, the problem is that I don't know how to make the radius of the circle bigger. Is that possible? There's no such option in the menu of the object...

But it'd be even nicer when the bubbles would follow a more irregular path... and not only going around in a circle...

Hmm, you could draw a path in whatever formation you wanted, place a pathfinder motor on that path then attach that to your group of prize bubbles and they would follow that path throughout the race. You can edit the speed of the pathfinder and set whether you want the objects to continue in a circle or change from a clockwise to an anti-clockwise path once their initial lap of the path is finished using the flipper setting within.2013-07-17 12:51:00

Thank you very much, sounds like this pathfinder is exactly what I need^^ I'll check it out this evening, when I can create again But how do I draw that path in the first place? Is there an option in the popit (the bag with the cog wheels on it) ?2013-07-17 13:54:00

Hey Chup, you create a path using the two tools inside your "gadgets" bag inside your popit menu (the first page, towards the end of the tools list). One creates the path in the same way you'd create a section of track, while the other next to it allows you to edit existing path points or remove them entirely.

The next page over has the pathfinder gadget you'll need to make an object move along that path, towards the top. After that it's pretty easy, just snap the motor onto the path you created and wire it to an object. Presto, flying bees!

Yay, it works! Thank you! :star:

Would it also be possible to let the object rotate while it's following its path? I tried to add a motor for rotation, but that doesn't work, because then the wires of the pathfinder-motor-thingie are gone...^^
I also tried to attach a rotation-sensor, but it didn't do anything...

Sure is! You can only attach one motor at a time to an object, but that doesn't stop you from attaching motors to other motors. If you take your rotation motor and wire it to your pathfinder motor instead of the object, both will have a chain effect when you then attach the pathfinder to what you want.

You can even hook up logic to each individual motor's input and have their effects come on when you want them to independently, it can be pretty versatile.

Wow, that's clever...^^ I'd have never found out that trick myself...

But the strange thing is that I couldn't attach the rotation motor to the pathfinder motor, but it works the other way round^^

Thank you very much for your help! Now I'll make some flying and at the same time (!) rotating stars (Idecided that the idea with the prize bubbles isn't that good...^^)
