Poll (Decide Layout for a Futuristic Militarized 2v2 Base Battle) Updated with Pics

Archive: 6 posts

So I'm making this Futuristic War based level. There will be 2 teams and the objective is to destroy the other teams base power source.

Depending on the environment, the vehicles could be different.

All of the vehicles behave as a real vehicle. For example: A hovercraft is flying and you shoot out one of its fans. It will fall to one side. If the hovercraft falls too fast, it will explode on impact. If it is close to the ground, it will take longer to possibly explode.

Each vehicle can be taken out by either destroying a power generator with Guns or Explosives, or shooting it's main power source. This will either disable all mechanics of the vehicle or make it malfunction. In the hovercrafts case, the fans help it fly. Shoot the fans, and it will fall.

The best part about shooting a vehicle out is the deadly explosion and shrapnel afterwards.

The mechanics are a little different than my level Full Out Warfare. Instead of en explosives from sticker panel and a tag, they will be real explosives. Some explosives differ from each other.

The futuristic part of this level design isn't just based on if it looks futuristic. I didn't want to just make a helicopter or a tank and give it a chrome look. Why not have a vehicle with mechanical arms instead of wheels? I want to make stuff look different than all of the current war vehicles.

Here's a poll of some of the stuff either inside or stuff I want the community to have an opinion on.

I haven't decided if I will accept any help on this project, but it is already in progress.

Anyways take a quick look at the poll. Thanks

EDIT:
The level you see in the pictures is not the actual level
None of these vehicles are the final product. Names may be changed due to enhancements. Anything on any vehicle, except the material chrome, is completely destructible by explosives. These are the prototypes of the vehicles made so far. There will be more vehicles than you see here.

Ground Walker: Walks on two legs and has a Medium Speed. It can cover about 270 degrees while firing weapons. It carries two weapon arms, one of which is hidden in the picture. Each arm carries machine gun rounds and 1 Hellfire Missile that reloads after 10 seconds. Two players will be able to control different things. The main controller will control the Movement, Machine Gun, and Missiles. The second player will control a High Explosive missile that is fired from the top of the Walker. Otherwise it can be used as transport. The walker is impenetrable by bullets and can only be taken out by explosives to the legs or to the controlling station. The machine will become interoperable if any joint is blown off, causing it to crash to the ground and leave behind a deadly explosion destroying anything near.

Hovercraft: Only a single operator can fly the hovercraft. To take off, the fans begin to speed up and gradually take it off of the ground. The take-off of the hovercraft is its most vulnerable stage to ground vehicles or other aircraft. When the fans have reached maximum speed, the craft can be controlled freely in any direction. It can reach High speeds after taking off. It carries a heavy machine gun and 1 Hellfire Missile that reloads after 10 seconds. Like the other vehicles it can be disabled and taken right out of the sky. Shooting any of its fans completely out will cause it to free fall either direction. Fans can be taken out by explosives or machine gun fire. If both fans are blown out, the hovercraft will spin vigorously. If you are high enough in the air, you can eject out of your seat. Since it doesn't have an ejector, you will have to climb around the top hatch. If you do not get out in time, the vehicle will crash land and leave behind a deadly explosion. The explosion can also take out anything in its path. The hovercraft can also be immediately taken out by blowing up the ****-pit.

Moon Buggy: The moon buggy is operated by a single player, but will have a seat for a passenger. The moon buggy was originally something as of the Ground Walker until metal arms were replaced with wheels. The buggy's transport is either by using it's wheels or by using rockets mounted underneath the frame. The direction the rockets take you can be changed while airborne. The buggy carries a moveable turret that fires heavy machine gun rounds and mortar shells. It can also fire under bodied mortars when airborne. Indicators show ammo and rocket fuel. The buggy can be taken out by destroying its power supply located to the rear of the vehicle. The generator can be destroyed by explosives or machine gun rounds. When the power generator is destroyed, a loud siren will go off. After three seconds, the vehicle will explode destroying anything near it. You can escape if you immediately eject. If a tire is blown up, the vehicle will not be able to move on the ground. Rockets will still be usable.

Hi MusicMan,
Sounds like a fun idea for a project. I'd go for arctic tundra (1, It can create a sense of isolation for the battling playrs, 2. The more barren
landscape will be easier on thermo). I'm involved in 2 projects at the moment, but, if you'd like, I'd be happy to help out where I can...Just invite me in game seanm88

For your vehicles, if you don't want the classic chrome, you can look toward retro sci-fi (as, the future as the people imaginated it from the 1950s), that has a lot of vehicles with round shapes, vivd colors, and absurdly big bubbles cockpits (like the firefly hover in Oblivion, but with hot rod flames on the sides).

On the other hand, you could go totally retro and do it steampunk. The biggest thing in steampunk is it has a lot of moving gears, wheels, steam pipes and vehicles always seem to burn a lot of energy compared to their speed.

For the environment, I haven't voted but I'm leaving that idea there: I'm fond of an old indie game that is hard to find now: Full metal planet (http://www.fullmetalplanete.com/FMP_Board_Game.html). Basically, it's a boardgame on a planet with very high tidal activity, so the environment changed randomly from one turn to another: plains that become mud when water rises, canyons that become canals, etc. The tiles on the board where colored differently, and it was very modular. It added a lot because some vehicles could be stick in the mud and vulnerable, or boats be suddenly laid on a flat grassland when the water retires. That was an important strategy point because if they build a certain vehicle, players could predict these changes in the environment.
I'm too lazy and unexperimented on top-down levels to do it myself, but if I ever do a wargame, it would be this

This looks like a very interesting project, as for the environment I choose outer space because I feel like outer space would fit more into the futuristic category(my opinion). You could also make a different level for each environment, like different maps with different weapons/vehicles and other things like that.2013-07-12 20:10:00

@thegeckofreak:
I plan on making several maps with each environment. For the level size I will most likely have to make a different level for each environment.

@Djibees:
Sweet, thanks for the ideas! I gave the vehicles, so far, a metal look. I wanted it to look futuristic but I didn't want ordinary vehicles to be apart of it. The Full Metal Planet also sounds like a very good idea for a level. If I ever do anything like that I will get a hold of you for help. I also bookmarked the page.
