Quality of Team Picks

Archive: 11 posts

I was thinking about the way UFG decides wich track are Team Picked.
Recently some tracks have beeing picked ( which is good), but the quality is very different from one to another.

For example:
The Bridge is out
Sakura Hill
A zen garden at night

have been team picked, and i must say that they have nothing special. So i don't understand why they've been picked up. Ther is a lot of track better than this. So it's disappointing.

A better question methinks is how they actually find these levels. If they use the same tools that we have to find levels, it would explain a bit how they can be "inconsistent" in their selections. I've always suspected that a team picked level needed at least 50+ plays to even be found by them.

Though in terms of quality, don't you think that's a little subjective? I'd rather play a "safe" feature-wise but solid track than something daring that causes frequent death/glitches because the creator didn't account for you not racing the track like he does.

Yes that right, it subjective. But if you played both Sakura Hill and A zen garden at night you will see that there is not a lot of work in them: Normal road, no personnal object, no personnal weapon, no personnalized kart, poor decoration, no changes, nothing.
So it is frustrating because for people who put a lot of work on their level (in my case i worked a lot on my level Science laboratory , i hope this is a good level and playable), and who see poor level (OK ok ok, to my mind, but i really see nothing original in them) like that which are team picked, it's disappointing.
Furthermore, i played a lot of tracks , not team picked, who are really better, funnier, cooler, and more beautiful than those one.

Ahahaha, I hear you. I'll sometimes sit back and wonder how some of the levels on the team list get way more plays than my own; but I'm fully aware that at the end of the day, everyone has their own preference and it seems like tracks will almost always beat battle arenas in popularity. That's OK in my book.

All I'm saying is to be patient. It took my level almost 3 months before it made the list, and it's entirely possible yours will too. And think of it this way: there may be some crummy team picks, but for the most part, the majority (in my opinion!) deserve the praise.

I agree and was thinking the exact same thing, both of those tracks are EXTREMELY poor by anyone's standards and definitely don't deserve a team pick. There are TONS of awesome tracks out there that are not being picked and I cannot understand why because at the end of the day you would think that they would want the team picks to be those creations that demonstrate the power and flexibility of the editor to allow creators to express their imagination, not safe and generic pap.

Also, team picks is practically the only way your level is going to be played by a lot of people, thanks to the awful online infrastructure of this game and the fact that only tracks that are team picked are likely to played online by a full room of players. There are a lot of older tracks that are on team picks that have no business being there (NFS Race springs to mind instantly) and yet there are lots of quality levels that could easily be team picked and added to the rotation to enhance the quality and prevent repetition. Right now they only seem to be adding three tracks every fortnight which is far too little. What they need to do is pick much more frequently and with less uniformity, who says that there can only be three added every fortnight, who does that benefit?

Also, whoever picks the tracks needs to broaden their horizons more than the mortuary that is the Little Big Planet Promotional Portal (which incidentally was where all three team picks were gathered from). I've seen more than enough quality on this website alone to fill a whole year of team picks (at the current rate that is!).

This is the link for Promotional Portal btw, it's so hidden away among the laybrinth of the official forums that anyone would think they didn't want you to find it!

Not practically, is. Unless you created another MK/IP clone, its nigh impossible. You know your doing it wrong when your players have to go outside your own game to market their levels!

Hidy Ho! I thought I'd give this thread a read and I noticed that Hiroshige0 thought that levels with <50 plays were not considered for Team Picks, but I believe Garden Raiders got picked when it had less than 20 plays.

My PS3 has been broken for a few months so I haven't been able to check out new picks so I can't really comment on anything else

Unsure about Karting and PS3, but I have seen Vita levels get Team Picked with less than 10 plays. However my level, A Druids Tale, got to 3,800 plays over 6 months before finally getting Team Picked. So I have absolutely no idea what the process is! (But I have noticed that the Vita Team seem to be on the lookout for actual new GAMES being made, rather than platforming levels.)2013-07-23 07:24:00

Thank you atheistw for the promotional portal link. Obviously it works, my track Science Laboratory has just been team picked.
It's pleasant to see ( at least) a lot of people playing his track

yeah it helps to be exposed. Imagine looking for a the only redball in a tub full of balls of a huge magnitude of color. There are so many levels created every day that they cannot go thru all of them. Karting over 100,000 levels. lets see u play all of them. So if it helps you or anyone else. it does not hurt to go to twitter and simply drop a tweet about your level or anyone else's to Steven Isbell @StevenIsbell as well as @littlebigplanet

but please do not get offended if it doesn't get played or considered. All you can do is keep creating for the sake of pushing your boundaries.
