The Broken Dreams of a Melancholy Rainbow

Archive: 7 posts

Without wanting to spoil TOO much, I've started a random project. So far different as there's currently no NPC's, no story, and a very different style for me. It's only 10% finished, so I still have lots of the actual platforming path to go, and then I gotta decorate it all.

That said, the setting of this level is a dreamworld...

...which turns into a nightmare.

A partially finished enemy. It will have a chainsaw when it's done, and you'll have to defeat it in a boss fight.

Point of fact, I want to hear about some of you guys and gals' worst nightmare? What scares you awake in the night? (And could I potentially use it in this level?)

What's currently being used already:
1. Sharks
2. Falling
3. Breaking rollercoasters
4. Fire
5. Clowns

Community Suggestions:
6. Dolls & Dummies
7. Failure
8. Drowning
9. Darkness
10. Large Holes/Bottomless Pits
11. Silence

One time I had a nightmare of a giant cookie in a chef hat rolling towards me.

(You could have an emitter shooting out rolling cookies with evil eyes and have the player go back a layer into designated areas)

And in that same nightmare, I thought I woke up but then when I checked behind my pillow, a witch came and screamed at me

(...Yea.)

Please give me a message when you're done, as I really wanna play this.

No joke, I've a terrible phobia of Goats/Sheep. I doubt it's nightmare fuel for other people, but they sure are for me.2013-07-05 23:16:00

I see what you mean... No! Just kidding, but I always considered farm animals and farms overall creepy...

My fears in all include Spiders, strange silence that leads to panic, and mysterious noises/surprising scences that make you jump! Anyways, this seems like a fine idea to work on(that boss is way creepy!) and I can't wait to see how you make it all aork into a fine, detailed level. Good Luck on your next 90% journey!!!

Yeah, that boss pic is only a 1/2 finished version, lol. The completed one has like, a chainsaw hand and mouths popping out of its gut.

Spiders is a good one. Silence is getting worked in too. The actual villain, the Nightmare, has a goat eye ironically. Goats/Sheep are creepy. D: Have you ever played Catherine? Creepy sheep.

Keep the nightmares coming. It's probably going to end up being a level with a sublevel if the boss gets any more complex, lol. So moving him will make the main level much more empty, so I'll have lots of room for ideas.
