Littlebigplanet on the local news

Archive: 24 posts

Skimming the interwebs I found this article, which I thought I might share.
http://kotaku.com/local-news-uncovers-adult-content-in-littlebigplanet-2-636271620
Apparently it talks about how LBP made its appearance on the news because of the online content, well the inappropriate content that is.

Wow, can honestly say this is the first time I've seen bad press for LBP.2013-07-02 01:27:00

Isn't there a thing in the EULA or some other part of the software licensing stating that online interactions are not rated?

For example:

"Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB" - Warns those who intend to play the game online about possible exposure to chat (text, audio, video) or other types of user-generated content (e.g., maps, skins) that have not been considered in the ESRB rating assignment

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp

Kinda blows a massive hole in their news story...

More to the point... shouldn't we be more concerned that the kids involved were actively searching for these levels? Cause knowing the cool pages they certainly didn't find them on there... what with all those inappropriate fifty jump levels

-----------------------------------------

edit:

well after watching the actual story and not just reading the article linked I guess they do mention the rating system... but still... the story was released far too late to make any sort of impact and is in effect pointless.

-----------------------------------------

To end on a high note... and with something a little more relevant to the time... lbp has reached over 8 million user created levels.

Wow this article is just absolutely ridiculous. The writer obviously isn't informed enough. By far.2013-07-02 03:05:00

Interestingly, the news station thinks it's morally in the right for bringing this "problem" to light...

However, some of the clips they showed (including a voiceover) is from a youtuber called Darksydephil who is saying on twitter they have used his content without permission...

So the moral of the story is that it is fine to trash a game for content outwith its control but stealing the work of others is ok...

...hypocrites

I've noticed that's it's DSP on the clip from watching his terrible MGS2 & 3 gameplay videos

Just goes to show you the truth of the real world that they don't teach you in school. Anyways, I don't feel that the news station was really committed to covering this story considering the fact that this has been probably happening since the first week of the release.

Saw this on kotaku, it's pretty ridiculous IMO. LBP could be used for inappropriate stuff in the same way that MS Paint could, should we just ban all forms of creativity to protect children from seeing things we don't want them to see?

Wow, can honestly say this is the first time I've seen bad press for LBP.

The media went pretty crazy over the Quaran fiasco (not far off 5 years ago now, whaaat). I think that was more justified than this crap because it was actually part of the game that people were offended by rather than something made by players.

Breaking news! Games with user-made content may actually have inappropriate content!

This takes me back to Spore. Some blogs were criticizing it for allowing users to create "anatomically questionable" creatures...

You get some daft local US news reports when it comes to gaming. They go way OTT.

I'd love to see a report on a mature game like The Last of Us. They'd probably end up making up daft facts like "This is a game that let's you shoot someone in the head, rip out their heart, and feed it to a heavily pregnant 14 year old athiest girl, who swears more than Deborah Morgan".

PS: No spoilers please, I'm only about 60% of the way through the game, so I'm not sure if that actually does happen at one point.

Lol. It must have been a slow news day for this to be a topic.

Guys, no matter what you think or hear, news reports are still a show. There's still makeup, and stage lighting, and scripts. At the end of the day, even if the news report is weak, or logically skewed, they really don't care as long as people are watching.

As we know, LBP has never been the cleanest place... But, does this news network take things a bit too far?

I agree on this. I read multiple articles on other news sites before, and my parents told me not to believe them all. Some were just written to advertise people to agreeing with the writer's opinions rather than point out the truth. I won't be showing some examples of false news, but I think the news is usually rigged. I can assume that this news is trying to convince people to agree on making LBP more child friendly rather than point out what's really going on.

It does bother me that every time i get on lbp the first thing i see is a D%$# pic, but then again maybe I should remove that sticker from my pod o.O. JK

this report is dull and doesnt even mention the 8 million user created levels out there to play. so the odds of running into a D$%# pic in lbp is quite extremely rare. I have found the vast majority of the community are not sexual deviants, but will agree there are a minut few. what are we talking about, maybe 3000-30000 sexually themed creations/levels out of the 3+ million account users, expanding 8+ million levels? sounds like good odds a kid wouldnt run into it.

also, it all starts with the parenting and teaching your kids, that whenever they come across something innappropriate that it is best to just IDK leave the freaking level and play a different 1. if your kid is sitting there and playing nothing but D%$# levels then i guess u might have more to worry about then them just playing nothing but D$#% levels.

so based off logik, they are pretty much taking a handful of folks (maybe even smaller since one person can make 16 accounts) and trying to ruin it for the bunch.

Of course they do. I bet they learned from those shows to make something inappropriate. I'll need to get some 409 spray bottle and a wash cloth, so I can help get rid of all of the inappropriate levels and stickers. I'll bring a few Chlorox wipes along with that. If that doesn't work, then Sony needs to do something about that. Maybe powers of moderation are better cleansers.

Gribble! Haven't seen a post by you in ages

Yeah, I'm afraid I lost inspiration for LBP along with LBPVita's slow online connectivity. I actually bought a Vita for that game only and sold it a few months after I bought LBPVita, after waiting patiently for the patches to actually work. I don't play many games really and had put all my efforts into unlocking the content in LBPVita -- which I did and I have to say the singleplayer game is the best version of the game by a long way. But I'd fully committed and didn't return to LBP2, so lost interest in logic and creating levels (or trying to). I just feel like it's a long long way to get back and I've lost my way a little on here because of it. Keeping a connection with friends is important and following ongoing news helps with that process, so I've mainly just been posting news up on the 'General gaming section'.

I'm hoping that the possible release of LBP3 can revitalise my interest though. I love it here, it's just that I now feel like an outsider which is nobodies fault but my own.

PS+ is also murdering my time and I think I may not use it again once my subscription runs out. I'm 55 for God's sake and the world is getting too far away.

I totally never done this................ Ok i did but when i did i gave them clothes. To be perfectly honest i have never actually seen something dirty in Spore the blogs were pretty much pointing out that out that you CAN MAKE inappropriate content but i guess never mentioned that there is a report button.

Also i wasn't able to watch the video does it at all mention that there is a report button.
