Archive: 9 posts

This is a game that uses the properties of weapons to simulate balls. Break bricks, get powerups and complete challenges to get the best score. Different bricks, detonator bricks, explosives brick and more... You have 5 lives to complete 2 different levels. The game has 3 difficulty modes and 2 custom cameras (top and 3D back).

Note: The photos on this page direct from LCD in order to shown the hud ?tems.

This must have been a helluva complex level to make but it was well worth it, this is a brilliant mini-game that is worth coming back to to try and beat your high score, the addition of various power ups that fall from the top of the screen adds an extra element of chaos as you try to catch them whilst still keeping the ball in play, making tough decisions of what to sacrifice in the process! 2013-06-26 12:48:00

Really cool level! Must have been a lot of work.

I have a few questions. How did you make the ball move at constant speed?
In what angle is the level set? I mean if you are looking at it from the side does it look like this _ this / or this |
Hope you can understand what i mean.

It took me a long time to make this game because testing projectiles. Once we know the properties and limitations of the projectiles, making the game is not difficult. There are many types of games that could be done using a projectile to simulate the ball, and if you are interested I can share with you what I've learned from the tests.

About your questions:

The ball is a straight projectile which has the property of infinitely bounce on the walls. But even if we set this property to infinity the projectile selft-destructs after 90 seconds (this is a limitation of the editor).

The ball (projectile) has a constant speed during his life, for example 35 (the slowest in this game), therefore to increase the speed of the ball is necessary to launch another ball using another weapon emitter. The ball can not be destroyed with a destroyer, only can be destroyed by colliding with another projectile (or self-destruct after 90 s). I have used a type area effect weapon to destroy the ball when necessary.

The gameboard is in the horizontal plane because the projectiles always move on the ground or on the surface of a material. The physics of projectiles is not perfect, so in the game I have used some tricks to avoid errors in the trajectory of the balls. In LBPK we can not control the movement of an object such as was done in LBP2, so the game uses projectiles.

If you like I can do a tips list or share some things that I've learned during the making of the game.

THANKS.

Congratulations on the Team Pick this week, very refreshing to see a single player level given some attention for a change, hopefully setting a precedent for things to come in future! 2013-08-10 12:27:00
