Photoshop is MAGIC
Archive: 16 posts
Many of you probably already know how wonderful Photoshop is. I, however, can't say I've explored it for more than an hour. So why the heck am I posting this thread? Case in point: the content-aware fill. The content-aware fill tool is a wonderful, magical tool. I'm a noob (like I said, one hour total), but it literally took me 2 minutes to take this: 45996 and turn it into this: 45997 That's not backwards. In 2 minutes, I removed that tree entirely, and it looks like it wasn't there in the first place. So... anyways, all that being said and done, does anyone know where I can find really good Photoshop tutorials? Knowing that I can do this with barely any effort whatsoever makes me wonder what's possible if I actually knew what I was doing. /rant | 2013-06-25 17:36:00 Author: Ryan86me Posts: 1909 |

Oh yeah, It's the best app to learn making some good graphics. Here's what I made some time ago: Before (http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q559/Schark6000/Other%20stuff/Photoshop%20Stuff/Before_zps3f3d5128.jpg) & After (http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q559/Schark6000/Other%20stuff/Photoshop%20Stuff/After_zps9eef41c1.png) If you want some really good tutorials you should visit this site: http://www.photoshoplady.com/ | 2013-06-26 11:56:00 Author: Schark94 Posts: 3378 |
I've not used the content-aware fill tool just yet as I've had no need for it but I've heard of it doing some wonderful things, someone once tried to Photoshop someone's clothes off and they turned into some sort of fleshy mess, I'd imagine like a Silent Hill enemy, highly terrifying, my kind of Photoshopping. | 2013-06-26 13:50:00 Author: Ironface Posts: 432 |
Just google "photoshop tutorials", particularly if you have something in mind. For some mind-blowing extensions google "photoshop plugins". Top 10 design blogs are rich with recommended filters, macros, plugins, extensions, tutorials and downloadable brushes, vectors and texture packs. The great/problematic thing with Photoshop is that it has (too) many one-button fixes. As you dig deeper into the software you'll find that a lot of it is redundant, and a lot of features are too crazily specific to be useful. It's a bit like LEGO blocks at this point: creative solutions have given way to very specific parts. These days nobody has to ask "how do I build an engine?" because LEGO has gone and built a dozen engines with engine-style LEGO pieces in the last decade. Little timer belts and everything. Another problem, more relating to the design industry: professionals are paid less and less with each new iteration of Photoshop, because "everybody has it" and knows the "tricks" which were once the results of time-intensive skills and creative use of tools. Yes, the tricks save time for the professionals, but they make professionalism itself redundant. Employers see a button click and say, "I'm paying you for THAT?" and get an intern to do it. Loads of freelancers pirate the software and work for free, which drives the wage for all Photoshop users down. And where button clicks are the trend, you might spend the next 10 years becoming a Photoshop expert in hopes of making a career out of that, but you may as well just do something else for 10 years and buy the latest copy of Photoshop when it's time, as that version will do everything you spent 10 years learning with a button click, and you'll be competing for a job with people who pirated the software and are willing to click the button for free! /rant too EDIT: Oopsie, that was my lifetime gripe about diminishing wages and wasted education. On an individual level, all Adobe software is amazing as heck and worth celebrating whenever you learn a new function. It's hugely edifying to become "that guy" who knows how to use the software. As simple as you find things like removing a palm tree from the beach, it's completely awesome when you can do that for somebody else and they look at you like a wizard. EDIT EDIT: Go hit up Worth1000.com for a wealth of great inspiration. I always love their hybrid animals and fat celebrities... a simple matter of the Selection Tool, Liquify Tool, color matching and patching! http://www.worth1000.com/entries/69249/cry-me-a-milkshake | 2013-06-27 02:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'm rather envious because I'm only owning a photoshop version CS3! My budget doesn't allow me to invest in an upgrade to CS5 or CS6! So I can only go on dreaming of all those wonderful features and magical tools! * sigh!* Many greetings, Jürgen^^ | 2013-07-04 14:33:00 Author: CuriousSack Posts: 3981 |

Just installed a load of software that came bundled with my tablet, including Photoshop Elements 11. I, like Ryan, have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm probably using another type of Photoshop. | 2013-07-04 19:46:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
Photoshop is cool! Using it makes much fun! | 2013-07-05 14:02:00 Author: DeKa1357 Posts: 190 |
@Ryan86me Hehehehehehe. @Dragonvarsity Elements is pretty robust, but they change around the keys for certain functions compared to "normal" Photoshop. I used Elements at my office for a few years and was getting pretty proficient with its quirky different rules but I would not go back to it if given a choice, since it messed up my proficiency when I moved back to CS. Photoshop is great! I need to do more photo manipulation, 90% of the time I'm either using it to draw or just doing touch ups; adjusting colours/values, touching people up, removing backgrounds etc. Here's a little something I did for game over at a car forum. Now THAT'S impressive O_o. | 2013-07-20 04:24:00 Author: Ryan86me Posts: 1909 |
Yesterday I felt like doing some photo manipulation since I usually use PS for other things and felt like doing something new. So I took a picture of what in my opinion is the best looking car ever made, the 1969 Datsun 240Z, and starting tweaking it. Then tweaking very quickly turned into overhauling the car to create a modern concept of the 240Z, though unlike other modern car concepts I'm leaving the body shape alone. This is what I started with, http://cdn.mkimg.carview.co.jp/minkara/userstorage/000/009/467/671/04f4a3e73d.jpg Which has so far turned into this, http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/SR20DETDOG/Photoshop/ModernDatsun240Zconceptwip_zpsab5d5666.png Admittedly it doesn't look very different, headlights are probably the most noticeable but the key is in the detail, and there are a lot more changes still to be made. By the end it should simultaneously look exactly the same and completely different from the original picture. PS. If you're into cars you might recognise the lights are from a Ford GT40. Also the indicator is the tail light of a Ferrari | 2013-10-18 00:59:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |

I swear, your photoshopping skills never fail to amaze me O_o Thanks  I have been using it for a little over 3 years now, spend enough time practicing and you're bound to pick up a few skills. It's kind of a funny thing. I probably use fewer of PS's tools/features now than when I started. I made the stretched VW Golf with just the selection tool, transform tool, brush tool and Layer masks/options. | 2013-10-28 23:49:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |
