I just can't stick to one idea....

Archive: 5 posts

I always do that^^. I start creating a level and after awhile I just comes to: Wait I didn't want it to be like that....

Then I try too make it look what I wanted it to be but then I just lose interest. The same happened to my level Palacha - alpha (yeah thx 4 the feedback guys X(... ) and now it's starting to happen to my newest lv in creation Sack Black (actually called: Sack Black 0.3 - update on 27.1.2009).

I thought maybe it would stop if I start publishing levels and updating them every now & then (^^ those two) but it still ain't helping.

Got any advice?

Well...
It's helpfull if you got a big doodleing book, and as you get Ideas just write them down with a pencil, and skech them, and how you'd make them work. Makes sure you know what you're doing, and where it's going to be.

So... if motivation is the problem, go out and buy a big... BIG chocolate bar.
Then Slap yourself across the face with it whenever you think about quitting.
Use the pain from nearly quitting and the delicious taste of chocolate to motivate you.

If you run out of ideas, take a break, play a different game for a while, thatll give you some Ideas

The best thing you can possibly do in LBP is to first draw your entire idea/level out on paper. I find improvising level design it what really gets you stuck.2009-01-28 00:09:00

I have two notebooks, one is a lined writting book where I can write out ideas, and the other is a grid book where I can sketch out object concepts and level layouts. I carry the two of them around with me pretty much wherever I go. You never know when you will get a good idea.

As for sticking to an idea, accountability really helps for me personally. Knowing that other people are interested in what I am planning really helps me to know that I should keep going with what I am working on.

Writing a blog or showing some work in progress with things like the project section of the forum can help people to know what you are up to. They can give you feedback on what they think of your ideas and concepts, and maybe suggest some ideas if you get stuck in certain points.

Those are just a few thoughts. Keep with it though, don't give up!
