Where is everyone?

Archive: 58 posts

ohai,

So I've been a bit more active here again, even though I dont play LBP much anymore, but I went on LBP2 earlier today, and I was checking out the MM Picks. Now, I havent played for a good 5+ months, and I see MM Picks from 5 months ago still on the front page. None of the new levels are by the great creators. Where's comphermc? steve_big_guns? NuclearFish? Where have they gone? Have they moved to LBPVita? LBPKarting?

WHERE IS EVERYONE :kz:

All artists need their recess. While I agree with your idea, it feels a little dead when they put one foot in LBP in weeks or months...2013-06-18 05:19:00

Compher was working at Tarsier for awhile and made a few cool mini games on the Vita by him personally. NuclearFish made a cool mini game as well on the Vita. SBG I believe still works at digital sumo and probably working on levels and such for LBP3.2013-06-18 05:19:00

I'm still wondering what happened to geosautus.

EDIT: I researched it. Apparently he went and got a job at a fancy multi-national design corporation. He's probably doing pretty well for himself...so yeah.

God, I remember the excitement around LBP2 like yesterday... but now most of the old creators have moved on.

Atleast I can keep in touch with people on steam and twitter...

But now it's free on PS+!

I know! Where's Code, and Stix, and Gondito, and LittleBigMidget, and DarkGod, and Sage, and Thee Flash, and-

Oh wait, you're talking about those noobs.

Fine, I se how it is. An old, esteemed member of the LBPC high council, such as myself, has no place amongst you charlatans.

I shall take my leave.

Yeah, LBP has become pretty inactive. And with LBP1 free on PS+, all hell has broken loose in the original game(It's worse than it was when Heart For Heart had started to take hold). However, if you look hard, you can still find greatness. I still plan on finishing that old Dragon Ball level series I planned on finishing three years ago(If you don't know about it, don't feel left out. Only about 5 people even know what it is. XD), however I'm not sure I'll ever manage to get around to it.

Anyway, I still go on LBP fairly often(Yeah, I'm not exactly famous, and I haven't uploaded any levels for about a year, but if I could finish any of my levels... Man, you guys would love it), and hopefully, if as many people as possible can become a bit more active(And if we can all finish some of our unfinished levels/series), we can do what we can to improve the community(In fact, it's still pretty okay right now, it just needs a little boost). Sure, most of the classic creators from the "Golden Age" of LBP no longer play it any-more, but that doesn't mean the game is dead. You just need to look to find the good creators(Hasn't it always been like that?). That guy who made the Star Wars: Err Etc! Series is still going(And is actually remaking the series for LBP2). So, almost everyone is pretty much where they were before(Just a couple of years older, and maybe slightly less active).

TL;DR: Most of the pioneers from LBP1 have left for various reasons, but there are still brilliant things going on in LBP, you just have to look. Hopefully, we can all get together and with our powers combined can summon Captain LittleBigPlanet to save the day.

(Wow, this post ended up longer than I expected. XD)

I know I don't play LBP anymore, but still. I almost never see any LBP threads here anymore, and no one seems even interested in MM's next game really. I don't see a lot of activity in the Level showcase forum, and newbies don't seem to stay a while anymore. So... is LBPC... dead? Should I move on, find a new internet home? But... I don't think I can! D:2013-07-12 22:13:00

But you don't know what it's like, you've only been here 3... years...

... Almonds, has it been that long? I'm approaching my 5 year anniversary! D:

Anyway, this was more or less why I proposed making another fansite, so we wouldn't have to lose the community and I wouldn't have to lose my family. Also, so I wouldn't have to start over again and work my way back up to being King of all Evil Peanuts. And already big sites are hard to break into the community of. But meh, anyway

I remember getting LBP2 like it was yesterday. It was my first LBP game. Soon enough it becomes a copied level wasteland. Ever since that happened about a year ago, I haven't played much. If it wasn't for the copied levels, more people would probably still play LBP.2013-07-12 23:31:00

In short we the community must insure LBP's legacy lives on in sites like these.

The Vita side of things is going pretty well. Most of the good creators are still publishing stuff, or have published in the last few months. Maybe it's just an lbp2 epidemic.2013-07-13 03:54:00

Where did the greats like craigmond go?

Nah, but I miss the days when we got genuinely amazed by the all sorts of new stuff that was created by some of the best creators out there. Since they moved on, very few other have stepped up to that level, and the community has died, which is kind of expected considering that the new elements of LBP2 from LBP1 were mostly create things, and for those who couldn't create that well (a large proportion of people) it was just a better looking LBP1 with new levels and a couple of new gadgets.

The community could be revived but only with a new LBP. The only problem being is that there's literally nothing more that can be added to it.

Good luck to the people who are/going/want to make this.

Not really. That's just what some fans wanted the game to be like. Sony never quite saw it that way. They had planned on releasing a new 1 every few years pretty early on tbh. And honestly they were right. Because most grow bored of a lbp game after only 2 years every-time. Addons don't make nearly as much money as putting out brand new games. And there's some things you just can't add on to a game without remaking it first. *mew

You know the game's in a bad state when the "Newest Levels" page is more fun than the Cool Pages.

I just started playing again for the first time in months, but I haven't been super active in the game since christmas 2011. I miss how it used to be

You know who else I miss? Vandz. He was working on this one level, Schizophrenic Platformer. I couldn't wait for it to be finished. But he never did finish it :/

Hello! Here I am.

Was I the one holding this place alive? Probably not. Was I active here? Oh yes. Did anyone miss me? Not particularly if I'm not mistaken. Why is that? Because things move on. We move on. Everything moves on. It's not dead yet but I think it is fair to say that LBP had its time. The first years of LBP1 were glorious days. LBP was the only game I really played for two years. Oh well, occasionally I played through some uncharted or R&C game or what have you but LBP was the game I could always load up and not be bored.

Then time happened. Well... LBP2 happened but I think mostly time happened. I at least had played too much LBP already and was getting bored. There's also the whole problem with me wanting to create too much and never being able to but that's another thing I've kind of written about in my blog. LBP2 brought so much new to our lovely craftworld, it was the medicine that was desperately needed. New ideas, mechanics, possibilities! It was all there again, magical as if it was 2008 and the first release all over again. Except for the fact that it wasn't. Sure, it did make things easier to create but the core of LBP was already dying. Platforming, that is. There's just so many platformer levels out there already and no matter how hard you try, after three years of LBP it all starts to feel the same. The new gadgets and elements can only add so much.

What about other level ideas then? LBP2 unlocked so many possibilities for other gaming genres. Yes. Yes it did. Those are however not the core of LBP. Those genres take so much time to make fun to play that it isn't really worth it. Your buddy who bought LBP2 and wanted to create a level isn't going to make a strategy game. Or a racing game... or whatever you have in mind. No. The players who aren't into LBP like I and many others aren't going to even try creating something very spectacular. Now, of course there are talented creators who produce a gem once in a while but as far as I see it, it's not really worth it. LBP might be a way to create fairly simple ideas but that won't keep it alive in the long run. The core of LBP is platforming and the golden days of that are long gone. Everything has its time. LBP had its time. It was a wonderful time, a magical time. A life changing time for me, even. Really. You can't play a game actively for three years without changing something about yourself in the meantime. Sadly though, the medicine that I mentioned earlier called LBP2 wasn't a cure. It was relief. A medicine that took away the pain, not the cause. The cause for LBP "dying" is old age. There is no cure for that. Wait 5 or 10 years and look back at the things that were big in this day. I'm sure many things will change. Some ideas have a longer lifespan than other but in the long run it must all come to an end.

It makes me sad to have to use phrases as "LBP dying". I remember a few years back someone talked about LBPC dying and no one really admitted to that happening. Now you kind of have to be in denial to say it isn't happening. Of course there is still life. There will always be life. LBP will not be dead (unless someone pulls the plug or something similar) but it will be quiet. Much like old classic games are still played today and are favourite games to many, and yet they are not the normal go-to games these people choose to play when bored. LBP had its glorious days. Perhaps it is good that we let it settle down and gather dust in the corner. This is how nostalgia is created. Greatness + time. One person might keep playing LBP like it's their full time job for the next 10 years. Some will play something else, forget about LBP and pick it up in 10 years. The difference between those is that one couldn't let go and probably got sick of it with time while the other remembers the old days with joy. It is easier to accept that the golden days are long gone if you let them be gone and don't wait for them to come back.

So, what am I saying here really? Just give up on LBP and let it die already? No. No no no no no NO! Are you enjoying LBP? Good, keep playing and keep having fun. Getting bored but can't think of anything else? Go think of something else, play something else, do something else. Come back when you feel like you want to, not when you feel like you have to. Maybe when something new is added, something spectacular that might change the game once again. LBP3 maybe? No idea where this whole concept is going but one thing is certain. At least I think so. Nothing can last forever. Not even LBP. Not even with a new game every now and then. Games die. Franchises die. It simply cannot last forever. So enjoy it if you still do while it lasts and if you are like many others, bored of it all, do something else in the meantime.

What about LBPC? Well, this place isn't exactly dependent on LBP but both keep eachother alive in a way. With one gone both cannot last. The internet, or something similar if we think way far ahead, will live on. People will always be there for you. If not here, then there's some other place. If you made real good friends here they are probably already on your contact list elsewhere. Even if something like facebook would die, your friends wouldn't leave you behind. Those who don't follow with wherever you are going are probably not really worth caring about. This is the internet's circle of life. I just made that up but I'm pretty sure there's some truth to it. I really shouldn't have listened to sad music while writing this.

Oh yeah I think I rambled reeeeeally off topic here (but not really) and didn't exactly answer the question in the title. People moved on. I moved on. I was partially forced to move on by the Finnish government but that's just because I'm male and we still have forced conscription here... never mind that... except for the fact that you wondered where everyone was and that's where I was. Next up is studies of English in Turku (another city in Finland) so there's that. Probably studying, partying and poor student's life up ahead so also probably no PS3 for me. Wish me luck. To all you reading this and also everyone moving on with their lives, good luck! Keep on rocking!

I got Lbp1 back in Early 2009 when I first got my PS3 (Yes a late starter xD) And I enjoyed LBP1 so much!! It was genuinely the reason why I wanted a PS3 (Other than a fact 2 people at my school had PS3s (Well actually they were twins and shared one ) and they said they needed people to play Call of Duty with (Another game that I enjoyed so much until the next game (Mw2)) But I remember getting excited because I heard about a great creators new level/project they were working on. Man I still remember the hype for the Water pack that was The Pirates of the Caribbean pack (Which the day it came out I got to stay home and play all day because we were snowed in and that day was meant to be our last day before the Christmas holidays)

It's all the memories really, and going back to LBP1 doesnt give the same nostalgic feel as it does if I played Pokemon for example. LBP sadly had it's time and it's not dead... It's terminally ill... Lbp2 like said earlier did bring back something in the community, it sparked up something that had so much potential and, it was lost. If there is another LittleBigPlanet game for the PS3/PS4 (If its PS4 which it will be I probably wont get it since I have moved onto PC Gaming) it may revive the community, and hopefully kickstart something wonderfull. Who remembers Poms? he was spanish and he made "The Secret Bunker" and that level where you are the "Seed" in the creation of life to put it bluntly. Or Johnee (Think that was it?) Who created Future Warzone? It was a great level anyway then he made a spectacular trailer for a second one- and the only thing he has done in LBP2 was made that meteor Mini-game.

There are hundreds of people I could mention- one I really liked his series and he wasnt very popular but you know he got quite a few hearts and plays was OMG-A-FLYING-FISH-95 I think it was, he made Hopeless fate series, again one that never quite got finished... I miss 2009... The Glory Days! But also the start of something that corrupted our community.

Well I made this thread and never really followed up on it....

I got LBP with my PS3, which I got after winning 2 gold medals at a State track meet. I was pretty stoked, but my dad was all like "you still don't have enough money to buy any games." I didn't really have any money in the first place, my dad just payed for the PS3 for the movie watching ability (nice money-maker Sony!). So we set up the PS3, and the only 2 games I had were A. Infamous and B. LittleBigPlanet. They both looked pretty awesome, but you can guess which one I picked up and put in the game drive first. That's right, Infamous. Infamous was a great game, it really was. I didn't even follow the storyline, I kind of just... jumped off of building and pushed innocent people into oceans. Anyways, I got bored of Infamous after 3 or 4 days, so then there was LittleBigPlanet. It looked like a neat concept, so I read the back. I saw "Play, Create, Share, and the game never ends thanks to endless levels made my the community!" So I thought, woah, maybe I can make my own games! (Actually, I was 100% wrong on this. I suck at making levels and I quit after numerous attempts.)

So I put LittleBigPlanet in the disc drive. It started up, and I was in a spaceship of some sort. I saw that I could dress up my sackboy. That, right there, was a dealbreaker for me. I don't know why, but I love dressing up my characters in games. I've done it in LittleBigPlanet, Maplestory, TF2, Club Penguin (which was a while ago), Skyrim, etc. So this was pretty awesome. I went into the story, and beat all the levels within 2-3 hours. It would have only been 2 hours, but it was 3 thanks to that "Bunker" level. So I look in my popit, and theres barely any more costumes!! I realized, oh, maybe those big bubbles with costumes in them are what I should get. So I replayed the Story and got most of the prize bubbles, and I aced some of the levels. I never made a PSN when I had my first LittleBigPlanet, so I never got to experience the Community aspect of the game. Then, LittleBigPlanet kind of vanished.

Maybe a year later or so, I had my birthday and had about $300, so I went down to gamestop. On the front shelf, it was new releases, and I saw the game. Call of Duty Black Ops. I was like, ermagherd, must buy. I picked it up, and right behind it was a game 565x better then that crappy FPS, it was called LittleBigPlanet 2. I remembered playing the first one with my sister, and how fun it was. I left COD, and bought LBP2, which after I took it home, I realized I had bought it maybe 3 days after it came out. So I went home, and dang, this game was SO much better than the first. I rushed through the story, but I hit a nail in Eve's Asylum. I needed help from the internet. Thats when I found LittleBigPlanetCentral. I made an account, posted my thread, and within 5 minutes I was back on my game fixing the problem I had. I beat the story, and dove into the community. Wow! So many levels that were even more original and creative then the actual story! People were going above and beyond in the MM Picks, creating top down shooters, RPGS, everything you could think of, and there were still amazing platformers.

I tried my time at making some levels like these, but it never happened. I let the amazing creators I knew from LBPC, which I had started posting on regularly, make awesome levels for me to enjoy. That year was an amazing year, I made loads of new friends from this forum and in game and saw so many awesome games being created. I thought I would be with this game till the end, and I thought everyone else here would, too. I bought every DLC that came out, I bought a PlayStation Move just for the new pack, and those new Move levels were so amazing! Then the MM Picks started to go from A+ quality to A. Then to B+. Then to B. They were kind of the same thing over and over, and they were lacking a new flavor, new originality. I bought a PSVita for LBPVita, beat, aced, and 100%ed it and LBP2, and LBP2 just kind of got bland. Most of the MM picks were platformers, no creativity, and all the great creators I once knew had gone to work for LBP instead of play for LBP. LBPKarting came out, and I freaked when I got my BETA code. And honestly, it wasn't anything I expected. The create mode was even harder then than other games, and the tutorials just made no sense. I got the game for my birthday anyways, I played one level, and I knew my time was LBP was up. It just wasn't what I hoped for. LBPKarting, LBP2, and LBP are all sitting right next to me in this cabinet. I haven't picked them up in months. All the fun I had at one time is gone. The only reason I would go back onto LBP2 is to make costumes, and I don't think I'll ever be touching LBP again. Maybe LBPKarting, maybe. I left LBP, and LBPC, for a long time. Last month, I missed my friends on the forum. I came back to the forum, but I'm just too dissapointed with LBP. Maybe Ill love Tearaway and the new clay game, but for now, I'm done with LBP. Ill stay here.

I think we all know what happened to LBP, we just thought it would never happen. Because in the end, there weren't infinte possibilites within the game. We reached its limit. And now, here we are.

I love you LBPC, and I always will. LBP has been a life-changer, really. <3

My... this thread latest posts made me feel empty... Kinda even hopeless!

I would love to see LBP3 though Even if it is some kind of cheap trick, I'm sure it would give the community an incentive to return at least for a couple of years more.

My addiction was from 2011-2012 with LBP2. Several hundred dollars of investment in DLC and peripherals, and several hundred hours of investment in create mode, and I finally took a broad look at my hobby and decided it was time to put the game down.

Like napero7 above says... people move on. Technology marches on. The market changes. Social networking (and make no mistake, LBP is a social network, if one with a wonderful creative and gameplay hook) evolves constantly, struggling to retain its userbase even in the best of conditions.

Not at all.

What happened was that the majority of people just quit trying to be innovative overall on LBP2. Or didn't want to put the effort into bigger more interesting projects because the majority of people seem to get bored of anything after just 2 years every time. There's tons of interesting ideas that could be made on LBP2 still. Sure LBP2 is limiting I will agree. But there's still a lot of ideas that can be done in it even so. I know I have a lot still. *mew

I agree with the posts I read. Stuff happens you know. If a million new people came onto this website, some of us would be complaining about the downtime on the site and over clutter of individuals here anyway, so I don't think you'll be happy with the outcome anyway.2013-07-30 12:37:00

Name one thing in LBP2 we haven't had done or the concept of it done. There's literally nothing. I've tried thinking of new ideas, but I just can't. Maybe it's just my imagination. >_<

If something hasn't been done or thought of, how could you put a name on it? Just because you cannot think of anything new does not mean someone else might.

Ideas don't need to be 100% original. Which is nearly impossible anyways since all our ideas came from something. They just need to be done in a interesting new way that overall is fun & different.

Example is like a sackboard snowboarding level I still need to complete. It's a auto scrolling action platforming level where you control a character using another character as a surfboard. Original? Not completely since it's been done before on couple cartoons & the game Crash. But fun & overall different? I'd say so.

Another example is. Notice how most JRPGs are very similar to each other? Yet they have enough overall differences that JRPG fans keep buying them?. Sure I may not be the biggish JRPG fan myself. But it still shows my point.

Also tech demos are a waste. You should not count them. There's also lots of stories people haven't bothered trying to make on LBP. I love a game with a well-made story. Yet almost no one bothers with story on LBP which is sad. What you said reminds me of what another guy said to me when I said "I prefer to work on only unique stories" A guy asked me "But all story ideas have been done before" I had to disagree with him. There's also the fact a story doesn't need to be 100% original in order to be unique imo.

Anyways in the end there are tons of fun and or even unique ideas that can be made still. Most people just are not interested anymore to bother on LBP2 is all. *mew

PS: it's also liked jwwphotos above me said. You can't say all ideas are made before somebody thinks them up.

Name one thing in LBP2 we haven't had done or the concept of it done. There's literally nothing. I've tried thinking of new ideas, but I just can't. Maybe it's just my imagination. >_<

A tractor pull level. I wanted to make one for kicks and giggles but can't seem to "Git 'er Done." For those that don't know, a Tractor Pull is just that, a heavily modified tractor or sometimes even modified trucks, that pull a weighted sled down a dirt "track." While the sled is being pulled, the weight moves forward thus putting more weight on the "tractor" until it can't pull no more. Example:

Hmmm another idea? I would totally love somebody making a remake of "the impossible game".2013-07-30 20:31:00

It's sad to say, but I think my time with LBP2 is coming to an end. I try to get on it once a week or so, but then I just play 1 level and get bored. I have about 40-odd levels queued, some will undoubtebly be very good.... but I just can't be bothered anymore. I think part of the reason is that I have nothing to create. I started making a music gallery a few months back, but have given up. Will I ever go back to it? I dunno. I have a few songs available that I would like to share, but the majority of my music sequencers are less than half finished... I just don't know if it will be worth it.
I think another reason is just that my last creation burned me out. Took a year to create and has struggled to get over 1,000 plays, despite the spotlights by 2 forums (compared to my prior level which received 1 spotlight, and has reached almost 2,500 plays). I mean, these spotlight hubs probably got around 20,000 plays between them! Was a bit annoying to not see a decent return on that, though I obviously am grateful for the spotlights.

One of my friends recently just bought the game and that has helped me get back into it. As you said I have nothing really to create but I do have a few ideas that we are going to try out. I think LBP is a good single-player game, but it doesn't get as boring since you can just goof around with your friends. It doesn't matter what is played you could just mess about in even a copied survival level (if you dive in of course.)

Yeah, nothing lasts forever. I actually thought LBP was growing into a stale slice of bread myself for a while, but recently I found myself piloting cows and making armies of rocket-launching Muppets again. I think it is fun to goof around, like Shooter said, if there's nothing else to do. You could always make something to do, it's not like it has to be a chore. But when it is is when you know you should take a break from it.2013-08-19 18:37:00

We all grow tired of games sadly, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, you can always come back to it.
LBP has this way of grabbing you by the hand that most games don't. It's easy to get tired of it since it asks so much of you, especially when creating. There's not a game I've played in all my years that made me invest so much time and effort into, and once you get tired, you just want to leave it behind. I feel you

If I EVER find a key to your TARDIS, well... I'd borrow it for a short time (to you at least).
