Capturing images problems (Bug?)

Archive: 7 posts

Is it just me or is Karting buggy as hell?

Besides having issues sometimes with cursor not highlighting objects when I'm right over them (and can in fact select them), I am finding that using the sticker tool to capture images is crazy buggy.

For example- today I began capturing images for a map I am making. I captured 3 images and stuck them on square objects. I tried to capture a fourth and it simply would not let me do it. There was no alert saying "too many images" (I deleted all but the three to be sure it wasn't that).

I moved the object all around the map to see if it was the position of the object.

I tried to stamp an image on any other object (no go.)

The X button simply wouldn't capture an image (The buttons all work in every other way.)

I went into another map and captured the remaining images there, saving them as custom objects.
I returned to the problem map and tried to bring one of these objects into it. It hard crashed the game (frozen screen) and I had to hard restart the system.

Any one else have any of these issues? Work-arounds?

Thanks for any info you might have! I really want to use this game to make my work, but so far I am extremely frustrated.

Some more testing done:

the map will not accept any more images (there are 3 in it at the moment.)
Any attempt to import captured custom objects that have images on them crashes the entire system (screen freeze- hard restart)
I am also noticing that, when looking at the captured objects with the images on them in the Goodies menu, they appear to be blank.

Lastly, I went back into the problem map and tried this time to simply stamp the images from the My Pictures tab onto objects. This works for about half of the images but not for the rest. The problem images cannot be stamped onto anything in fact.

And still no new images can be captured via Playstation Eye in the problem map.

Can you import the captured objects from one fresh level to another? If so, it might be some unknown issue with your map. As hard as it is to believe, it is possible for a level to be come semi-corrupted and do odd (read: RAGE-INDUCING) things. If it rejects a specific set of images, can you retake them again and see if you re-import them?

I've personally never ran into the issue (though I never did any custom images), but it doesn't surprise me how broken it is.

Thanks Hiroshige. The map does seem to be corrupted, unfortunately I've spent hours now trying to salvage it.

This is so buggy I am not sure I have the patience to continue. I make video art with LBP and I need to prepare some new material for a performance coming in late July. This could very well kill most of the time I have to make new work.

I tried starting a new map and captured about 8 images on large pieces of material. Then it stopped allowing me to capture new images. Again, no warning, no error message, etc. When I grab any of the objects and try to resize, they can get larger but cannot get smaller (they are already quite large. I need to make them smaller.)

There were bugs in LBP2, but they didn't completely bring my work to a stand-still. I'm afraid the new studio really dropped the ball with Create Mode on this one. Makes me really sad, as I love using LBP and had been dreaming of a full 3D version.

Thanks for your help. I'll probably give it a few more shots and report back if I can get it to work.

Your best bet is to report it via the Sony Playstation forum. Here you are just informing other players rather than getting the issue into the hands of the actual developers and community manager.

...and please, no more double posts or duplicate threads.

Thanks. I made the other thread because the subject was different. Never understood the whole "double posting" problem, but you're the boss. 2013-06-13 23:00:00

Reporting back after a month of dealing with this.
I've been experimenting to see if there is some work-around, but no matter what, around the 10th captured image it always just stops allowing image capture. I'd appreciate it if anyone interested in using captured images in LBPK would try to recreate this bug.
Open a new map
Capture images onto any material
Note at what point (if ever) the control (X button) stops working

Thanks.
