problems, solutions, ideas and idiots

In an ideal world everyone would get a fair change to show off their talents and creation, We would judge them accurately and move on and they would be satisfied with themselves or try to improve . We obviously have a broken system where it is very difficult to get a level to be seen.

These are ways I tend to use to find levels to play these days as I rarely find levels on the cool wall

1 I read the advertisements and often play usually by decide by description and look, I know listening to them would encourage people to do it more often and well keep getting this as spam and whatever but there is always a chance you would find a hidden gem in the mix.

2. Write random words into the search bar and random tags and see what you get

3. Go on the newest levels and browse until you find something that sounds interesting

4. Go on the MM picks

5.Browse the levels of the creators who visit my planet, I usually give them a chance by playing there levels, I don't advertise myself as a P4P or advertise unless it is the players choice hub things. So the way I see it if they were willing to give you a chance it is only fair to return the favour.

The only real way you can enjoy this game is by find imaginative ways to get around its faults and it is quite a nice feeling when you realize you found a hidden gem.

If I had to be honest the biggest problem LBP faces is it's poor search system. the system only works for when your looking for a level type or theme. It isn't easy to find a different level as if I write for example. the dark cave, you will find thousands of levels with the same name and it is very hard to make your level stand out. The usually argument is well that is why you should be original and pick a more unique name. Well if I made up really originally named level like Dolphin Slackers Noble Defenders of the Multi-verse (I suck at improvising) it will stand out but no one will think to search it, and levels have to be famous before they get on the cool wall anyway.

The point I am trying to make is we need to find more unique levels and not just wait for the MM picks and the showcases, As well we all know the cool wall isn't very helpful but by having alternate methods of finding new levels, we may boost other creators chances get to the top of the cool wall. As pretty much all of the people who copy levels rely on the cool wall to feed their fame and if you don't care about that we at least have a more ideal system for creators to get a head start.

Questions
How do you do find the levels you play?
How would you recommend getting noticed?
Is making low skilled levels really bad thing every once in awhile?
Should people just try to bare with lbp2 until lbp3 is released?

That is why sites like this are so important to creators that are more serious and want to create something magical or fantastic. The bulk of folks that play LBP are not that old and for the more part won't appreciate those levels that we hold near and dear to our hearts.

If you had read the other 200 + posts about the cool pages, you would know we don't really care much about them. Again because of the age range that mostly plays this game we love, levels that we don't find very good will be right there much like what you find on Nick Jr. Silly stuff that makes your head hurt. Every once in awhile, something good might make it there, but to be honest most of my levels, especially once I started creating harder platformers, I really didn't want them out there. Kids would hate them and back when it was the star rating or boos were around, that really didn't do any of us in that same skill set to do well. Unless you are creating something specifically for that age group, that is not your target audience.

So again, getting a network of friends that are like minded and those that appreciate each others skill sets is very handy. One way to do that is to use the F4F function and be proactive. Don't just mark it F4F and wait for others to play it. GO PLAY OTHER F4F levels and leave constructive feedback. Do it a many many times. The more you do it, the more feedback you can get.

This does a few things for you... not only feedback to help you improve if you work at it, but you also get to know other creators. Especially handy if you find F4F levels by who you really enjoy as creators. If you can start to impress them and start landing spotlights, you know you have achieved something. What is also cool about that is that most times, more folks will give you a creator heart just to keep track of what you might be up to next. Same thing that you should do. Creators that amaze you give them a heart.

Now we come to LBP.me with all these hearts you have given. You can track on your dashboard what they find amazing to play and have hearted or given a smiley. Same with them if they gave you a heart. You can also look on the hearted level list and hearted creator lists of these other creators and find gems they have discovered. You would be amazed at how many awesome levels you can find by simply using the tools that are already out there via LBP.me. I have found those that are really gifted are attracted to others with similar abilities and simply using that to your advantage is way more powerful than the cool pages or any of the search tools.
