The Thread for Science and Maths!
Archive: 11 posts
Hey guys, I was just wondering how many of you are actually interested in Science and Maths- even Computing for that matter. When I was 11 Science was my favourite subject, and I am considering taking Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Advanced higher level (This is an SQA Level- and it is basically a step before University while you are in High School). Maths I also find so interesting!!!! I am just a major nerd this way ._. These I think are fundamental subjects, I mean why shouldn't a Twelve year old know that it takes light roughly 200,000,000ms-1 to travel through glass!! Why shouldn't a Twelve year old know that x^2+1=0 is equal to the Square Root of -1 (Which Doesn't exist!) I mean how many of you guys know what Pi is- I don't mean what the number is (3.14) I mean why do we use it in relational to a circle? Do any of you guys know why a Object can be at a constant speed and be accelerating at the same time! (e.g a Satellite!) So guys if you find something interesting in Maths or any of the sciences pleas post it in here- Even if its something you find interesting or just found out! Maybe you would like a question answered- and I am making this thread because I don't see many Sciencey things here- | 2013-06-08 23:48:00 Author: Awesome_Guy Posts: 167 |
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mby1f1w0OW1rp8qkv.gif I actually was in Science honors in my freshman year, and I'm recommended for Biology and Algebra 2 honors for my sophomore year I actually can't think of anything that's not too obvious though, considering I'm only in american highschool and most of the members here are already out of college/university | 2013-06-09 03:27:00 Author: TheUltraDeino Posts: 1274 |
Khan Academy is great. Taught me great stuff about limits. | 2013-06-09 04:04:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
There are great Youtubers that provide lots of information- but since you never put it to the test yourself or you watch it when you do something completely irrelevant in class- so you tend to forget it very easily- Like Vsauce- his videos are good- but his video go on for about 10-15 minutes and by the time you are finished you forgot what you learned by the time you get to the end. However I made this comment to recommend MinutePhysics- who in my opinion is a very good YouTuber | 2013-06-10 21:11:00 Author: Awesome_Guy Posts: 167 |

If it makes you feel better I am just 15 xD But yeah I would be just going into "High School" and leaving Junior High I think if I was american or English I'm actually 15 aswell. If you were in America, you would be either in the Freshman year or Sophomore year in highschool depending on if you were born before summer or not. | 2013-06-10 22:41:00 Author: TheUltraDeino Posts: 1274 |

Khan Academy is great. Taught me great stuff about limits. I hated maths before I found that site. The teachers never helped me in school, I was left still not knowing things like the multiplication tables or how to do division by the time I took my exams. | 2013-06-14 02:30:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |

It's wonderful. I now understand the epsilon delta definition while in school we just finished learning how to factor quadratics. I would brag about it to all my friends, but they wouldn't understand, and I'd have to explain it to them, then I wouldn't be able to brag since they understand it too. | 2013-06-15 04:58:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
