Time Warp Chronicles Chapter 1: Dr. Chronic's Lab

http://vita.lbp.me/v/cq5tx First, my LBP1 levels has introduced both 'The Hero Quest' and 'The Hero Chronicles' level series. Then I opened the epic LBP2 level series known as 'Cybernetic Adventures'. Now I like the LBPV players to introduce the 'Time Warp Chronicles' level series. In the start of the series, the players explore the laboratory with a variety of gameplay, including the roller ride where players tilt the Vita to move the vehicle. I planned to have this series feature eight levels and four movies with a total of twelve chapters. Each chapter has a set of short cinematic scenes, and they includes a music made by me, starting with 'Time Warp Chronicles' opening theme. The next chapter will be a movie. Hope you give this level a go. ![]() PICS: http://i3.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/ee3fd52dac1f6635b534d4a14f7ca1809403f606.jpg http://i0.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/c3037d94a63ce6d6b5e55f57c786a6f7aef6d846.jpg http://i5.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/b659f77a09fc156168ab30779a3dcaee4e02b9cb.jpg | 2013-06-08 05:46:00 Author: JustinArt ![]() Posts: 1314 |
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h5xuxJouBhc/Tt1HJOmONFI/AAAAAAAAACw/mrkan72V9IM/s320/aesthetics.png I liked the visuals, everything was polished and had a nice look to it. You used lots of decorations as well, and there's really nothing to complain about. Some of the areas even utilised the 3D layers glitch, which I always find quite admirable. The outdoor area looked a bit plain though, a couple more plants or trees would go a long way here. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GeFLt8BPXSM/Tt4WXP__ABI/AAAAAAAAADs/tXMBfZbJJC0/s320/score.png 18/20 http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lJ9yrLrz9vM/Tt1JcJGNBzI/AAAAAAAAAC8/rTOnAWG7y-8/s320/gameplay.png The gameplay was great mostly, though I do have some nitpicking to do. First, the touch integration.... I've never been a huge fan of this in general, especially when it is used for things that don't really make sense controls-wise. For example, using the jetpack with the analog stick is perfectly fine, so why make it touch-controlled and have the fingers play twister on the screen? Or the boss fight, why have the player press buttons on the screen in a way that makes them block the view of the screen? This is really just my opinion, and I find this annoying even with some of the levels tarsier created. Secondly, I didn't really understand how to control the blue wheel thing properly. It would sometimes inexplicably go too slow, no matter how far I tilted it. I could only get up some slopes after some tries, which was quite frustrating. I'm not sure if that was your controls not working properly or me just being absolutely retarded though. Lastly, the test things you did with the doctor's daughter were a bit tedious to do, especially the first and second ones as they were basically just doing the same thing repeatedly, thus stretching the gameplay along a bit. Other than these three minor things, the gameplay was a blast, especially the boss. The story aspect was great, and I'm really curious to see what happens next. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GeFLt8BPXSM/Tt4WXP__ABI/AAAAAAAAADs/tXMBfZbJJC0/s320/score.png 18/20 http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lO-SetoI8Uw/Tt1VGALnBbI/AAAAAAAAADg/_FyyH2FYzFo/s320/music.png The use of music in the level was pretty much flawless and always fit nicely with the atmosphere of the level. You also used lots of sounds to inhance the immersion, which worked very well.I have nothing to complain about. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GeFLt8BPXSM/Tt4WXP__ABI/AAAAAAAAADs/tXMBfZbJJC0/s320/score.png 10/10 http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VVv-NFV58vs/Tt4aHYwK4JI/AAAAAAAAAEE/oW0Z6sBrbzU/s320/final%2Bsummation.png All in all this was a fantastic first part to your series, and I'm eagerly awaiting part 2. Much appreciated. I made some changes that improve this level. Players can now additionally use the touch pad to activate the switches during the boss battle. I added the electric floor below the boss area, in case players accidentally dropped through that area. And I forgot to add the text "Chapter 1: Dr. Chronic's Lab" at the beginning of the level, so that has already been done. Hope the first level's update improves the experience. | 2013-06-09 19:35:00 Author: JustinArt ![]() Posts: 1314 |
this is definitely one of the best levels created so far, deserves team pick, but probably won't get picked because they seem to only pick "gimmicky", "arcadey" levels. really good design and story telling, loved the boss at the end with a ending to continue for the next part. so when is the next part coming out ????? | 2013-06-10 08:57:00 Author: damargis ![]() Posts: 7 |
Rather than having a long rambling post about what I did and did not like, I'll just post some suggestions. I liked the visuals and story, so there isn't much to talk about there, but I think the gameplay needs work. Until the tilt wheel segment, the gameplay was pretty basic and generic. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I found that for the powerup sections you made the player repeat the tasks too many times. The player already knows how to use these powerups, what's the sense of making them repeat the same tasks multiple times? If you reduced the counters here to like 2 each instead of 5 each it'd be less tedious. I also think the jetpack section went on for a bit too long. I think that the obstacles could have been more creative as well. I liked the tilt wheel, but I found that the it required to much momentum where momentum was too hard to attain. This section also featured press the buttons 5 times each gameplay, but at least it was brief this time because of the tilt wheel's speed. Unfortunately I had to leave before finishing, but I think as it stands the level has some good strengths and some level marring weaknesses for the sections I played, and I think they discourage me from replaying the level. So, the level isn't bad by any means, but I think that the gameplay is a bit too tedious for the level to be enjoyable. Great presentation and story, but gameplay is fairly weak, which is weird considering how fun some of your LBP2 levels are. Then again, I'm not sure how far I got into the level so maybe I'm dead wrong about everything. I am eagerly anticipating the next installment though. ![]() | 2013-06-11 04:24:00 Author: bonner123 ![]() Posts: 1487 |
